Title: New Menu Callouts 2.1

This patches all current sounds that I have finished.  It's meant to be a one-time-download thing so you don't have to update character sounds 100 times.  RAR'd it's 70mb, unpacked it's only about 82mb.  A big update for the download size.

GENERAL UPDATES:
Announcer and Goodbye files for:
Angel (needs to be named angel)
Avalanche (announcer only, no break)

Black Widow (fixed -- needs to be named blackwidowvv  so it doesn't conflict with the NPC)

Captain Marvel (fixed so his break sounds play)

Dr. Doom (the actual "Dr. Doom" announcer file is rough at best, but it's all I could do)

Nope.  We don't know how to multi-hash for multiple breaks, so the only change I made from stock as an_nightcrawler to an_nightcrawlerdlc.  So sabretooth_hero is the same since that's how it was before, but not Magneto, Toad or Juggy.

Well, yeah, I know we don't know how to multi-hash, but the mods for those 3 characters HAVE been updated to include the "_hero", so I guess it won't be compatible with them for now :(

The XML->MUA mod is a long ways off, so I don't see a need to worry about it at all for now.  I can always add separate _hero versions of the menu callouts/announcer later.

I'm not saying you should edit it now, I am just pointing out that the mods for those 3 characters that are currently available (Magneto in the Pack and the individual Toad/Juggernaut mods) already have the _hero tags, so this file won't work with them. Just pointing it out so that the next time you update this you could (hopefully) update those.

Yeah, that's why I edited my Mangeto from magneto_hero to magneto.  For MUA there are no conflicts, and when the XML->MUA project comes around it won't conflict since the 'magneto' ID will be a NPC anyways.  I built it just for the MUA Official Characters pack anyways.  I don't see why magneto can't be named just magneto in that pack.

It seems kinda silly to change the name around multiple times, imo. There is no reason it can't be magneto_hero for MUA, but there is for XML->MUA. Changing the name name now means avoiding a lot of work/redistribution later. Either way, just adding extra sounds with the "_hero"s built into the hash seems a fine solution, imo.

Updates: (what will be in the next release)
-Magneto and Toad now use magneto_hero and toad_hero so they don't conflict with the XML->MUA project (Sabretooth was always set up this way)
-Captain Marvel's break sounds now play
-Nightcrawler will now use all of his break sounds, (uses nightcrawlerdlc as his ID)
-Venom will have two break sounds (poor quality due to not knowing the exact audio format)
-New Team Bonus sound: Shaba Ultimate (poor quality due to not knowing the exact audio format)

-I also have the 360 Gold edition version of Cyclops' menu callout, done by Nick Fury.  I've got all the XML1 sounds too.  I'm not gonna add them until we figure out the PC codec.

Actually, he is juggernaut_hero :)


Also, if we could get an addition of Black Widow's sounds as blackwidowvv, that'd be sweet. (That is what they were called on the PSP, we changed her name on the PC so that her menu sounds would play)

Does she conflict with the NPC at all right now?  I'd rather not do more work than I'd have to.  I don't play the game on PC for anything more than testing.

Yeah, the NPC'll change to whatever costume you (the player) is using. If it is a lot of work, don't bother, but it'd be nice to remove all conflicts :)

It isn't working atm (mediafire). Any chance you could re-upload it to, say, sendspace?

Out of curiosity, why did you name them "psylocke_hero" and "emma_frost_hero" rather than "psylocke" and "frost"? Also, "archangel" is the boss' name, it needs to be "angel_hero".

I renamed Psylocke to not conflict with the MUA boss, Emma Frost to not conflict with the XML2 NPC.  It took about two hours to upload because of the weather here.  So I'll wait until mediafire comes back up.

No problem, don't worry about it. I'll wait for mediafire to come back. And I'll change Emma/Psylocke's names so they match with this (I was going to re-upload the Psylocke mod with proper skins at some point anyway). The Angel thing, however, will need to be addressed at some point in the future. Perhaps the next time you reupload.

Edit: Teancum, if I understand your first post correctly, then you have not only the menu callouts, but also some character voices in the .rar. Wouln't it be easier to both up and download if you compressed the files in different .rars?

Nope.  This is one big patch so you don't ever have to download 20 different files again.

Added more download mirrors to the first post.  It will have a total of four, so everyone should be able to find one that works.

already had proper sounds installed in their mods, so no update needed.


I am going through and fixing:

Beast
Emma Frost
Jubilee
Magma
Professor X
Psylocke
Scarlet Witch
Sunfire
Toad

with the new fixed sounds for (hopefully) an update later today.

The rest here (besides Punisher) (Thor, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Sabretooth, Magneto, Venom, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Ronin) will be included in the next update of the Official Characters Pack, I guess.


And I will check out Venom's sounds for you, Teancum.

Hey, for some reason magneto_hero and toad_hero aren't resulting in in-menu sounds anymore. Any idea why? Juggernaut_hero is, as is Emma_Frost_Hero.

Also, Beast, Magma and Emma Frost's sounds are not playing in-game :scratchhead:

As for the XML1 chars, I did quick conversions, so I'll probably have to clean things up.  Check Psylocke to see whether she works.  As far as in-game sounds they powerstyles should probably reference [char]_m and not [char]_hero_m.  So it *might* be a powerstyle problem, but I doubt it.  No VO in-game either?

I'll look into magneto_hero and toad_hero.  I didn't have them installed at the time so I couldn't check.  Let me know if you find more bugs.

Magneto/Toad have in-game sounds, just no menu. Mayhap you forgot to add _hero to their hashes?

Beast/Magma/Jubilee/Emma Frost (haven't tested Psylocke yet) all have menu sounds but no powersounds/voiceover in game.

I'm taking a pretty safe guess in saying you built the powerstyles to reference the same sound files as XML1?  A lot of the guys here reference some random character.

The sound won't play. And even the voice over doesn't want to play for the XML1 characters. (I'll go test some other characters, like Ronin, to see if they will play sounds)

ETA: Captain Marvel, Ronin, Venom, all of their sounds play. THe problem seems to be only with these XML1 characters :(

Yeah, definitely a conversion problem.  I wonder if I left the hashes empty, that's what happened the first time.  Come to think of it, you might have that version.

Well, he's got levelup, taunts, respaffirm (when you change characters) and victory sounds.  He's got a couple of others like 6_stats (when you win in arcade mode) and the like.  Definitely not everything he should have, but the most I could give him.

Yep, Psylocke doesn't work either (except for the in-menu psylocke_hero stuff, which does). So it is all 5 XML1 characters' sounds which seem to not work.

Scratch that. Here is what seems to not work:

In-game sounds (power AND voice) for the 5 XML1 characters
In-Menu sounds for Magneto_Hero, Toad_Hero, and Psylocke_Hero

I see that you have been using voices from "Spider-man" on the PS1. Would it be possible to give Venom his "Itsy-bitsy spider!" taunt as a "bored" sound when having Spider-man in the same team? (Similar to Magneto taunting Wolverine when left alone for a while).

All the links are the same thing. You need to copy x_voice out of one of them into sounds/XXX/x/_/

I'm home now and figured out the problems with the XML1 characters and the menu breaks.  Should be ~24 hours.

BliZZ, have you had a chance to look at the Angel stuff I posted?

*edit* --- oh DUH, I was tired and thinking that Emma would conflict with XML2, and thus would in MUA.  I guess using emma_frost_hero won't hurt though.

The power sounds still don't play. Everything in the _v seems to work, as do the grunts in the _m, but the power sounds seem not to. Perhaps they need to be named p1_something rather than power1?

Hey, would you mind adding Black Panther's p5_ sounds to beast_m? That way his tackle won't be silent. Also, for my ease, could you rename the actual wavs so that I can see what the hashes are calling for? (beast_m's filenames are "power1", etc)

Power hashes will always call for P#_event.  I.E. P4_IMPACT or P3_CHARGE_LOOP, P1_POWER, P2_CHARGE, P5_LOOP.

As far as BP's extra sounds, I'll trade em' and the other char sounds for the help I need with Angel.

I don't know if they'll work in XML2.  I'll try and let you know.  As far as updates go I'm just posting that I have em' done.  I'll let folks know when a new link is up.  (Beast is the only update with a download)

*edit* Jubilee is done, there's two small changes.  BliZZ, her 'charge' sound is just called CHARGE, and there's some other power I can't identify.  The .wav is called power1a, so I named the hash P1A_POWER

I'm working with BliZZ on em' now.  I give em to him and then he is updating each individual mod.  I should have them to him in the next 24hrs.

BliZZ has the files, and he's working on updating each character.  So the only thing holding sounds up will be if I messed up here or there and have to fix things.  Future sound update files will all be handled through BliZZ, so watch the topics he takes care of.

heeeelp!!!! when i use this x_voice i either hear Magneto's announcer or Doom's announcer.

i'll explain better.
when in sounds/eng/x/_ i have it as x_voice.zss i hear doom's announcer but not Magneto's, and when i copy it and rename it as x_voice.zsm (so that i have both the .zss and the .zsm versions of it), i only hear Magneto's announcer and not Doom's.

why???????

Is your Magneto named magneto_hero?  Also, Dr. Doom must be named doomdlc.  If that's not the problem I'll look into it when I get back from vacation and fix it for the next release.

yes (i've renamed my doom from DLCdoom to doomdlc.)
it's just that the sounds only work separately

Dunno then.  I'll look into it next weekend.  My top priority is deciding on Doom, Venom and Hulk's power sounds so we can get the next release ready.  *IF* you want to have your Dr Doom mod separate from the official, let me know after it comes out and I'll make it so the same sounds will play for dlcdoom (what you can call yours) and doomdlc (the official one).

no, thanks, i'll just wait for the official doom. i'm not that good at creating completely new characters. the dlc one will surely be better.

also, i've noticed that doom uses always the same "goodbye" sound. (at least i've only heard him saying that one)

i really can't wait for this new doom!!

Dr. Doom (the actual "Dr. Doom" announcer file is rough at best, but it's all I could do)

I was playing through the game today and remembered this issue. There are countless of in-game instances where Nick Fury says "Dr. Doom" (and the names of other characters, like "Vision" and "Namor"), especially when talking to him as a NPC. Do you think they could be used for the announcer files, or that they would fit the announcer tone?

I've listened to every single Nick Fury voice line.  I never ever heard him say DR Doom.  Just Doom.  So I took one line where he says 'Doctor Pym' and melded that with the clearest 'Doom' line I could.

This file is older than the one in my sounds folder. That must mean the one included in the Beta3 pack is a more recent update, right?
