I'm not sure this has been done before, but I know I haven't seen this information in a poll. I've noticed that the members of this forum are from all over the world, which is really cool. I'm curious to know where everyone is from. Sorry if I didn't include your country individually. I can add it later. Please specify your country in this thread if you wish.
My case is a little more complicated. :D
I'm Taiwanese, grew up in Brazil and now I work and live in China, AKA MAOland!

你好 :)
I am from Canada.
你好啊!I think we've seen this before! Everyone in the topic ended up speaking all kinds of languages other than English! Can't remember what topic that was, though!

That's ok with me. haha
It's great to see people from different parts of the world.
I'm from Switzerland, but I go to France very often, cause my dad lives there.
My French is not good, though.
i'm from the good ol' us of a, but i could apply for duals citizenship 'cause my mom's canadian (i'm trying to get my parents to let me).
Australia.
I'm from Mexico.
I'm in the UK - not Great Britain. Great Britain is used inaccurately to refer to the whole of the United Kingdom when it actually only refers to the main island. The full name for the UK is "The United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". So I live in Great Britain (Wales) but the nation I live in is the United Kingdom. The two are not synonymous.
Just a small nitpick. :P
The Ununited States of the Netherlands is where I live ^^

Good One! :D
Fine, than I'm from the Unites Kingdom States of Great Brazilian Republic LOL
Other active brazilians here that I know of: Sasquatch, Marvel Watcher and ZOS
I'm Portuguese now too, cause my dad was born there and I have double nationality. I'm moving to Europe sometime in the next 2 years, probably Lisbon or Amsterdam. My sister is marrying a gringo so, next year she's going to move to Annapolis, Maryland in USA, so I'm gonna visit often. Love being a citizen of the world ^^.
I don't think anyone non speaker of the Brazillian Portuguese will understand the word "gringo". hehehehehe... :D
Mas "Unites Kingdom States of Great Brazilian Republic" foi boa! :D
LOL, some will, deedooo said the word not long ago.

Not a nitpick at all! I really appreciate the information and adjusted the poll. I like geography and remember when I was a kid and learned that "England" was not the official name of the UK. So do you have a "word" to classify Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland when you consider them individually? (For example, I know it's not "state" or "province").

Historically:
England and Scotland are their own nations. Wales is a principality of England. Northern Ireland is a province of England.
In modern time:
We're all our own nations united under one Queen. It's quite a touchy subject really. I know a lot of people don't think Wales would survive without England but if Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, and other smaller countries can survive then Wales definitely can.
I'm from Finland, which I bet you know (if you know it at all) as a country of sauna, cold/snow and rally driving.
Though because of global warming the winters are warmer than they used to be. I'm just happy as it is since I don't like cold, snow is quite fun though, especially on christmas. That is something I'm used to and christmas just isn't the same without snow. Or sauna for that matter. :D Yup, sauna is the hottest place on Earth where human goes volunteerly. :D (I watched a document)
Well, I'm from Hungary and I bet, that I'm the only one here :D
I would like to see someone writing where he's from who doesn't have it in his profile.

true. the word gringo is a sligtly derogatory term refering to people from the us of a used by people from mexico and south/latin america (for those of you who don't know). i like to use it(often refering to myself or my friends that don't speak the spanish at all), mostly because not many people know it here in utah.

there's me!^^
I know the word gringo. And I've never been in America.
gringo is used by all spanish and portuguese speaking countries with some small regional differences. in mexico it's used more to refere to US citizens. here in brazil it's anyone that's foreign. It's not derogatory, only in context. I have several foreign friends here whose nickname is "gringo" and it's not derogatory at all.

Quote from: fox456 on November 05, 2009, 04:37AMWhy are you moving to Europe?
cause I have family in Europe and I don't really like it here much. it's a matter of personal identity. I think cause I was raised in a family of europeans I have a different mentality. not better nor worse, just different. I don't feel quite like myself here.
I think you should add Italy to the poll, fox.

my bad. i've heard it used in a few different ways. it could be derogatory in some contexts, but as you say, it can be used differently.

Well said.
what do you mean by that?
Well, to keep it simple, unless you are an American Indian or in prison or an illegal immigrant, the new law requires that everyone else buy health insurance. There will be a tax penalty ($695 to $2,085) if you do not comply. Many say that the law is unconstitutional and some of the states are taking it to court.
that's strange. in most countries with "free" health care the money to fund the public hospitals comes straight from the taxes debited from your paycheck. you don't pay for it separately.

The money to pay for the health care will come from some workers' paychecks as you describe, but this is to pay for the other people who don't work or make less than $44,000 per year. They will also have to have their own health insurance.

Now I wonder if Russia is the only country that spans two continents....

well ive been actually choosing between singapore, malaysia, indonesia or thailand for my next break this august or late november!
singapore is the best choice out of them, believe me Indonesia is a terrible country :D
where r u from btw?
I was reading that Hong Kong was an "administration" of China. Is Hong Kong independently its own country or more like a territory of China? It's probably "none of the above...." :)
