alright, ive been having a discussion with my friend and i thought id bring it to marvel mods. who will be in the upcoming avengers movie?

i think that the roster will be for sure:
CAPTAIN AMERICA :capamer:
IRONMAN  :stark:
THOR  :thor:
HULK  :hulk_icon:

and not so sure:
GIANT MAN/WASP
HAWK-EYE  :hawkeye:
MS.MARVEL  :warbird:
ICEMAN  :iceman:
SPIDERMAN  :spidergirl:

the reason giantman/wasp arent on the for sure list is b/c that is alot of heroes...but there has to be a woman in it...i just dont know...and what about sentry?lol, too many avengers...scarlet witch? my friend thinks that hulk wont be in it cuz he's ganna be the enemy but hes an founding avenger! and he thinks no thor even though there is a movie! so what do u think?

EDIT:voting can start but what aboutthe west coast avengers? should i aadd them too?

Iceman in a avengers movie? maybe beast but Bobby drake never was a avenger.

I think it will start off with Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor and Ant-Man. Then in a sequel, after the Magneto movie, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Vision will probably be there, perhaps alongside Ms Marvel and Hawkeye.

To begin with, I wouldn't expect to see any characters that don't have any pre-existing or announced movies to be in, or at least if they do get in they will only have an insignificant, cameo role.

I still can't believe they're doing an Ant-Man movie.  Of all heroes that won't translate well to the silver screen, he seems like one of the biggest (pardon the pun).

And here's hoping Hawkeye is in there.  Best.Avenger.Ever.

I'd imagine them starting with Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk. I don't think there would
be enough time for any more movies before the Avengers, aside from 2009, which only has one Marvel film so far. Although I would like to see Ant-Man, Wasp, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye and Vision join in a second film.

I really doubt that any X-man will be in the avengers movie, since
-they're mutants
-"The Avengers" takes place in the world of iron man and hulk
-there are clearly no mutants in the world of iron man and hulk

Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Cap will surely be in it, we know it from the stand-alone movies

I also doubt that spider-man will be in it, unless they restart the series with Spider-man 4 being like Batman Begins for the batman series. And most likely, if he's in it, he wont be played by Tobey Maguire (who IMO isnt that good for spidey)

There's no "World Of [insert character here]" when it comes to the movies anymore.  That's why Marvel is having characters appear in another character's movies.

And I agree, Tobey Maguire == terrible as Peter Parker.  As Spidey I can handle him, but as Peter he's just too geeky.  Topher Grace (movie Venom) would have been a better Peter.

I don't think certain Marvel movies could crossover, since Marvel Studios does not have the rights to movies like Spider-Man and X-Men.

actually there IS but just for x-men.     In X-men all the world is full of mutants.

I've heard it at a few places, I can remember a few. Aren't mutants rare though? That could explain why we don't see them in other films.

well but mutants have never even been mentioned in any other marvel movie, so, unless they include them in the Cap and the Thor movie... they're completely outside this "universe"

It's the "Marvel" universe when it comes to the movies.  In fact, I bet you 10,000 US dollars within the next five years you'll see a mutant in a non-mutant film, or a non-mutant hero in a mutant film.

k, but what i was saying is that this has never happened yet.  They still have time with Thor and Cap.

i mean, ok, it's the marvel universe, but there must be coherence within this universe. They can't just pop up one day and say: Oh, by the way, why arent all the superpowerful mutants around the world helping us fighting against hulk(or doom/goblin/doc.ock/silversurfer/ironmonger/etc)

so, it's too late to include mutants in the already started stand-alone series. but they still have time for the ones still to come.


Anyhow, let's face it, if there had been mutants there, everyone seeing Hulk would have said: hey there's a big green filthy mutant here!

I totally 150% disagree.  Lets take Iron Monger for instance.  Iron Man dispatched him in one meeting -- no need for mutants.  Doc Ock, Goblin and Venom were essentially the same thing, though the first two had more than one meeting with movie Spidey.  And back on Hulk, who's to say in the "universe" that people didn't think he was some sort of mutant?  You didn't see that because it wasn't important to Hulk's story.

Besides, when people started fighting the villains early on in the comics, they didn't call in other Marvel characters for the first fight.  That came later on. 

Bottom line:  Just because you haven't seen any mutants in Iron Man, Spidey or Hulk doesn't mean there aren't any.  It just means that the movie wasn't about mutants - it was about Iron Man, Spidey or Hulk.  Adding X-Men in with already 3 films dedicated to them would have stolen those character's thunder.  That's probably (among other reasons) why there's not even a slight Spidey cameo in the other movies too.

Think about it this way: In those movies, nobody mentioned Finnish people, yet that doesn't mean Finland doesn't exist in the movie universe.

that's pretty different actually. Finnish people are not as influent on the world as the mutants.

According just to what happened in the movies, the president of the USA has risked death 3 times because of mutants, all the world's most powerful leaders' lives have been threathened, every single human on the planet was mentally attacked by Xavier, alcatraz and the Golden gate were destroyed, they caused the political debate around the Mutant Registration Act, they caused the creation of the Cure, Senator Kelly based his campaign on the fight agains mutants, the army attacked them several times. Many many things differ from 'our' world.

So having mutants would be just like not having, for example, Buddhism. I mean, it's the chaos teory. One even little thing changes everything.

And in the other marvel movies there's absolutely NO sign of mutants, not even a graffito or a poster on a wall saying "mutants suck", while for example in the first x-men movie, we see mutants are also in the news on tv, even if only for futile reasons. (it says we'll talk about the mutant problem and...." etc. very random.) it's like our tv news talking about terrorism or the pope. And again, other example, in spider-man 1, people wonders who is spidey or what he is, why he's got strange spider-like powers and so on, while, if there had been mutants, they would have just said, "ok, here's another of those vigilante mutants"

Again, I think it's due to the fact that it's an irrelevant point in the non-mutant movies.  I went to watch Iron Man to watch Iron Man, not to have some little mutant cameo.

Plus - did people suspect "MUTANT" every time someone had super powers in the comics?  No, they didn't.  Sometimes, but not very often.

so, do you think they'll introduce new characters with The Avengers or (as i suspect) they'll introduce all the characters with stand-alone movies?

I wonder if they'd bring in Sandman, he was an Avenger for a bit wasn't he? Plus he kinda 'reformed' at the end of Spidey 3.

I doubt he'd be in the first movie though...

I think they'll bring on 1-2 new characters in the Avengers film... probably Hawkeye and one other.

I would like to see Spider-man and wolverine , I also think Hulk may be made out as a villain but will probably join them later on in the movie to defeat a bigger evil :D

Cap, IM, Thor, Hulk, and S.H.I.E.L.D. definitely should be there.

Hawkeye, Giant Man, Wasp, and Black Panther are quite likely.

Ms. Marvel, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Beast, Falcon, Yellowjacket, Tigra, and Quasar are least likely, and *might* make cameos.

I just read about this crazy rumor: Eva Longoria will play Wasp in either "Avengers" or "Ant-Man" movie.

Also, there's rumors of Will Smith being offered Captain America. I can't currently think of any white actor that would fit the role better, so I'd be ok with that casting choice.

A long time ago, I heard rumors about Paul Walker from Fast and Furious being offered the role of Captain America.

And what ever happened to that Iron Fist movie with Ray Park?

Rest assured that at the very least Thor, Captain America and Iron Man will be in Avengers, because that's been pretty much confirmed by Marvel every time they can.
The chances of X-Men, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four related characters are slim to non (pardon my English if the last sentence made no sense). Because the right for those character's movie versions belong to Fox, Sony and Fox again, and it's pretty hard those studios will allow for any of those characters to appear in a movie released by any other studio (as was the case with The Incredible Hulk: http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/06/12/spider-man-meets-the-hulk-the-cross-over-that-almost-was-but-wasnt/ ). As long as their rights don't go back to Marvel, there won't be any Wolverine or Spider-Man in Avengers (and, sadly, no Dr. Doom or Magneto too, and most likely no Quicksilver nor Scarlet Witch).

OK I have a conundrum that won't leave my brain alone.
All of the info on the Ant Man Movie (which I am psyched for no matter what you Pym-haters say) says that it will feature both Hank Pym and Scott Lang. They have made it seem like the Pym story will take place in the 60's while Lang's story happens in modern day. If that is the case then it wouldn't make sense for Pym to be in the Avengers movie, but if he isn't in then Wasp makes no sense at all, she wouldn't have even gotten powers if it weren't for him.
Personally I hope this gets sorted out so that we can have Ant Man and Wasp in The Avengers Movie, it wouldn't be legit without them.

Also though it would suck without him, Ed Norton has said he is unsure about Marvel Studios plans for Hulk in the future.

Will Smith as Captain America, no...Isiah Bradley maybe, but I am really sick of them turning characters black for no reason other than to turn them black. Nick Fury I will tolerate because of the Ultimate series, but Steve Rogers story is a classic part of comic history, you wouldn't make Batman black for no reason.

will.i.am as Kestrel, or John Wraith, is perfectly fine for me though.
