Title: DC's Cap America.. Lameness inside
Post by: BLaw on September 05, 2009, 02:34PM
So I went to check on the DC website a minute ago.. Saw that they have a new hero... Who shockingly looks like our favorite Cap America! Well, more like Cap Marvel & America in 1...

He's without a shield, but they call him The Shield:

I call it lameness.. What's your opinion?

Depends on what his powers and personality are.

That is so stupid even the cover looks similar. They should be sued if even more stuff is similar.

Oh come on -.-

I never really liked DC as much as I love Marvel.

What is REALLY lame is that DC (under D. Didio's 'guidance' - or lack thereof) went all the trouble of acquiring the license to publish these old characters (and others that don't really belong to DC, like Milestone's), while, at the same time, several others are being underused / killed off / completely mishandled to the point of no return. I was originaly a DC fan, but I can't stand their comics anymore.

i are disgusted. just because marvel is a better company doesn't mean dc can pull a "mac" and copy all the good stuff that marvel does.

Ha! Didn't think of that... but it's probably not true. They're pushing all the "Red Circle" characters at this point -- it doesn't seem "the shield" is recieving any more spotlight than those old, obscure characters, like "the Fly", and whatnot.

Both companies always copy each other, its nothing new. Marvel has done it and so has DC.  I mean Gladiator is basically a purple Superman, and then theres the whole Squadron Supreme http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_Power http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squadron_Supreme

well, Marvel got themselves a "Superman" in the recently acquired Marvelman. And now DC has a Captain America.

Similarity 1
X-Men
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/a/a8/X-Men_%28Earth-616%29.jpg

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/2/2f/X-Men_Vol_1_1.jpg

X-Men is about a bunch of misfit heroes, who are shunned by society, but always try their hardest to save the world from The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Their leader is a man in a wheelchair who goes by the name of Professor Charles Xavier. Tagline: The Strangest Super-Heroes Of All!

Doom Patrol
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/b/b7/Doom_Patrol_003.jpg

First Appearance - My Greatest Adventure #80 June 1963
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/e/e3/My_Greatest_Adventure_80.jpg

The Doom Patrol, as you can see are a few months older than the X-Men.

Similarity 2
Superman
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/f/fc/Superman_%28by_Alex_Ross%29.jpg

First Appearance - Action Comics #1 June 1938.
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/5/5a/Action_Comics_1.jpg
The only surviving refugee of a distant planet, stranded on Earth was taken in and raised by his adoptive parents the Kents.
Powers - Superhuman strength, superhuman speed, superhuman durability, flight, healing factor, heat vision.
Weakness - Radioactive shards of his former planet of Krypton now known as Kryptonite render Superman helpless.

Hyperion
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/7/79/Mark_Milton_%28Earth-712%29.jpg

First Apperance - Avengers #85 February 1971.
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/8/87/Avengers85.jpg
The only surviving refugee of a parallel universe, stranded on earth he was taken in and raised by his (unknown) adoptive parents.
Powers - Superhuman strength, superhuman speed, superhuman durability, flight, healing factor, atomic vision.
Weakness - When Hyperion is exposed to Argonite radiation, it renders him helpless.

As you can see, Hyperion is a complete Superman ripoff, including origin story.

Those are the two biggest ones i can think of, sorry for dropping bombshells for you X-Men and Hyperion fans :)

Superman

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/2/2d/Man_of_Steel_1A.jpg
The only surviving refugee of a distant planet, stranded on Earth was taken in and raised by his adoptive parents the Kents.

As you can see, Hyperion pre-dates Superman by about 15 years.

Those are just cosmetic similarities, when you peel back their layers, those characters are nothing alike.

Guys, Hyperion and everyone from Squadron Supreme is an authorized copy of Justice League, as the Shi'ar Imperial Guard is of the Legion of Super-Heroes. It's not a mere copy, it was an agreement between both campanies of having heroes based on the competition. DC had their own versions of Marvel super-heroes too. The Avengers counterparts were called Champions of Angor. The difference is that the copies from Marvel stuck, while the DC ones disappeared throughout the years.
