I prefer to allocate the power points that a hero earns myself rather than the game doing it. I know this feature can be toggled to spend or not spend points automatically, but it always starts in the "ON" position. Does anyone know how to set the default to NOT spend points on powers automatically? I'd rather not have to change each hero one-by-one. Also, when you start a "hard" game, the computer also allocates those points before the game starts.
Just popping in to say that I would also like to know if there is any way of setting this. It's annoying to have to change each character individually after starting a new game. If you happen to leave the character select screen without remembering to turn off auto-spending, whoops, you just wasted points!

Exactly! You described the exact problem situation much better than I did.
what do you mean "waste points"? you can at any time in the game just turn it off and reorganize the points as you prefer. please tell me you guys knew that already.
Yes, we knew that. We're talking about if you forget to turn off the automatic spending of points, the game automatically distributes the points and they are "wasted" if you don't get to decide for yourself.
Maybe we're lazy, but we wanted a way so that the automatic spending feature is always "off." That way, if you start a new game, WE get to distribute the points ourselves. Also, we wouldn't have to change all 27 characters one by one so that the automatic spending is turned off.
but you do decide for yourself even if the auto-spend is on. turning it off actually makes you have to distribute every single time your character lvl up. if you at any point in the game decide you want to redistribute the already existing points as you please, all you have to do is turn the auto-spend off, delete the points from the powers you don't want and replace them in the one you want. having the auto-spend on is actually the lazy thing to do :P
Hmmm, I didn't know you could remove the points and then redistribute them. How do you delete them?
I just press delete, cause I play with the keyboard. it's the button assigned to "camera left".
BTW I wasn't being a prick, I just can't imagine how much effort you guys had in order to lvl up the powers without knowing this little trick.
2 things: When checking the powers of each character, in the bottom of the screen there should be a banner showing what each button does. One of the options is remove points. And the first point spent in a power can't be removed.
2nd: There is a function that can be used in a py script that could theoretically turn autospend off from the beginning of the game, but I don't think anybody has figured out how to make it work. I know how to turn off autoequip, though.

Hmm, that still means that if auto-spending puts a point into a new skill you didn't want, that's one point you won't be getting back. One of the reasons this annoys me so much is that X-Men Legends 2 would helpfully ask in the beginning if you wanted the computer to handle allocation of stat points and equipment, for all characters at once.
you still didn't understand. the only point you can't redistribute is the one you get when the power is first unlocked. that point you wouldn't be able to use even if you had auto-spend off right from the beginning of the game. all other points can be redistributed as you please. bottom line: it really makes no difference whether you have auto-spend on or off. the amount of points will be the same and you will always be able to put them wherever you want, no matter what.

One more comment -- if autospend is on, then the computer can place the first point into a skill that you don't want to use whatsoever and (per Gevth) you can't remove that point and you're stuck with that power for the rest of the game. HOWEVER, I appreciate knowing that you can delete all the other power points that are automatically allocated and assign them how you wish. Thanks, Nowhere Man!
you're welcome. oh, and you can also use the cheat to unlock all powers. that way those first points that unlock the powers are EXTRA points: Press Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Enter at the character select screen or the main menu. ;)
That's icing on the cake!!!
Well, no redistribution of points for me for whatever reason:

As you can see, the bar at the bottom does not list deducting points, and pressing delete here does nothing.
@ Crowley:
Here's the way I understand all this (at least the way I'm doing it now). First, select your team of four. Then, use the cheat described below by Nowhere Man to unlock all powers of each one. Note that if you change your mind and switch characters after using the cheat, you have to use the cheat code again to unlock all the powers of the newly selected character(s). The code only unlocks the powers for the characters "up front."
Next, when trying to redistribute points, there are two things I have encountered. You cannot remove the first point of any power. This includes all the white dots that are filled in automatically by the game too (actually, they aren't really skill points you've earned).
If you leave on the "auto-spending" feature, as the character levels up, the game allocates those the way it wishes. THOSE are the points you can remove through the DEL button. And, once removed, those points cannot be added to a power if the character hasn't reached the requisite level yet.
You will always be stuck with powers that ever get selected by the computer. The good thing about what Nowhere Man explained is that when you use the cheat code to unlock all powers, the points that your character earns as he levels up that would have been used to unlock a new power can be used to build up your favorite power since all powers have already been unlocked.
In your Spider-Man example, you can't redistribute that extra point on Web Bullets because you haven't any other powers unlocked. I think you should be able to remove the green dot by using the DEL key. Then, when another power is unlocked AND you have the required experience level, you can add the point to it.

By your explanation it sounds like the reason I cannot deduct this point could also be that I assigned it manually in the first place. I'll have to look into this more.
The first and second point in the first power CANNOT be removed, no matter what. Just turn off autospend and don't let the game put anything there.
I agree. I've been experimenting too. It seems as though you can't remove the first green dot (after the blue dot) of any character's first power. The blue dot is always present because it represents the character's first power.
the first green dot for all powers cannot be redistributed. but, if you use the unlock cheat that's not a problem at all, cause you won't be wasting any points.
another cool thing. if you have the OC1.2 and you finish with gold reward a non-especific character sim mission, you get an extra point for ALL 27 characters in your roster. there are 9 of these missions, so...9 extra points per character. great deal.
I usually finish the helicarrier, do all the non character specific sim mission than star a new game with the saved game stats. I do this over and over again till I have as many points as I wish.
However, a negative side effect of the cheat is your Xtreme doesn't level up. Use it too early on Wolvie, and BAM! Xtreme only does 56 damage.
