Title: music help?
Post by: Quentin Hex on February 20, 2010, 12:01AM
so i was looking for good metal bands with female singers, just to mix things up, and i was wondering if anyone knew of any good ones.
the best i found so far was eths which features a really creepy french chick who causes me actual fright withe her metal voice.

There's Flyleaf. and there's Paramore, which is not quite so metal, but still a really good female-fronted rock band.

EDIT: Figured I'd post some links for you:
Flyleaf - "Again" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbdCeWoEH1U&feature=channel
Flyleaf - "I'm So Sick" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWIADZKU9dw&feature=channel
Paramore - "Ignorance" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH9A6tn_P6g&feature=channel
Paramore - "Brick by Boring Brick" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A63VwWz1ij0&feature=channel

I'm not sure if you would consider this metal, but here's Last Night, by Ilia.

There's Flyleaf.

Did you know Flyleaf is a Christian band?

Yeah, strangely enough.  They don't sound like it at first, but if you listen beyond the screaming and the guitars, they are.  Same with Skillet.

Did you know Flyleaf is a Christian band?

while looking up the band i saw this
"We all share the same faith. And so when we deal with the whole 'Christian band thing,' we kind of think about something P.O.D. says, like, 'If you're a Christian, it affects everything in your life. So if you're a plumber, does that make you a Christian plumber?'" Mosley said. "I don't know the answer. We're a band, it's part of who we are, so it comes out in our music, and it's the fuel for what we do. And finding faith saved my life. So I'm not ashamed of it at all. And most of our album reflects that."

Apparently there's disagreements about whether they are or aren't a Christian band, even within the band.

I saw Paramore when they opened for No Doubt and they were pretty good.

Man, I know some screaming bands, but Ilia is the only that I can think of that has the female singer screaming. If you just mean a band that screams and has a female singer, I think there a couple of songs by The Letter Black that are like that.

Arch-Enemy has a female grunter. I'm not a huge fan of female screamers or grunters - it sounds weird.

I'm not a fan of female or male screamers/roarers. That just doesn't sound like music for me.

the females scare me, but i'm a metal head so i don't mind male screamers as much.

What about Nightwish? They're a pretty good metal band with a female lead :P. I don't listen to them, but I hear some good things about em.

Heh, Nightwish is finnish and as we all know many good metal bands come from Finland. I actually even like Nightwish a little.
