Lets say I wanted to add :blade: to the Bruisers. Or create a team with :capamer: :humant: :namor: :vision: and call it Golden Age and create a bonus for the team. How would I do it?
This should help you out:

The maximum number of teams you can have listed in the team_bonus file is 32.
Oh okay, thanks.

I thought it was 27 ... hmm..
27 is the limit for the number of characters you can have appearing on the menu select screen (and in the herostat file).
Sort of a silly question:
What happens if I list a set of characters that applies to two team bonuses?
For example:
X-Men First Class: Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Iceman, Angel, Professor X
X-Factor: Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Iceman, Angel, Havok, Polaris
Is there any way to make it work?
That's a good question, actually. I'm guessing that only one of the bonuses would be received. It would probably be the same one each time you started the game with that team. Which one? Try it and let us know what you find out. I'm curious to know the answer too. :)
I'm pretty sure that you cannot have a conflict like this in your team bonuses file. I've heavily customized my file and whenever I tried having two teams in there with four or more of the same characters, the game would crash.
There might be a way out if you refer to specific costumes.
I work from an Excel spreadsheet wherein I put all teams with all members, for easy comparison when I want to make any changes. I can recommend a similar approach for a clear overview. With this file, it also clearly showed that there were no 4-member conflicts in the existing teams. Which led to some dubious choices (if I remember well, something with the Martial Artists team, which included Nightcrawler and not Wolverine, something like that).
I included many Avengers in my heroselect which I couldn't fit anymore in the eight-characters limit of the Avengers team and which led to conflicts with the West Coast Avengers team. I had to make some tough choices there, ended up making sub-teams to replace a general 'Avengers' team, approaching rosters from specific runs.

This spreadsheet sounds really cool! Gevth used a spreadsheet that (I think) actually compiled his teams for the herostat in some way. He uploaded it on the forum, but I could never get it to work. I'd like to see your spreadsheet if you would ever like to share it.
I certainly wouldn't mind sharing my spreadsheet. Do you know of an easy-to-use file uploading service that would allow me to link to the file on here?
I use www.box.com (or www.box.net).
Sorry for the late response - thanks for the box tip, here's my Excel (or, actually, an Open Document Spreadsheet):
https://www.box.com/s/2xoatjx336zsy9lcn0eu
Cells marked yellow are characters who I excluded from my herostat, and teams where I can't get at least four persons in anymore.
Green cells are changed or added characters. I replaced some teams from the old file altogether with new teams, the previous teams are marked red in a separate section at the bottom of the list.
If you'd like to work from my corresponding team_bonuses.engb file, I put that in the box as well:
https://www.box.com/s/w2bsv8rews97teuio30f
For reference, the characters not in my herostat are:
Nick Fury :nfury:, Elektra :elektra:, Storm :storm:, Blade :blade:, Spider-Woman :spiderwoman:, Silver Surfer :silvers:
Mods I replaced them with:
Scarlet Witch :scarletw:, Quicksilver :quicks:, Wasp :wasp:, Wonder Man, Iron Fist :ifist:, Angel :archangel:
And I used (only) the following four characters from the official characters pack:
Nightcrawler :nightcrawler:, Cyclops :cyclops:, Hulk :hulk_icon:, Hawkeye :hawkeye:
I've been looking over your spreadsheet for quite awhile. It's very interesting. Am I reading it correctly that you also don't have Moon Knight, Colossus or Namor?
Also, you uploaded an .ods file. Is it possible for you to save it in a form that is compatible with Excel (.xls)? Luckily, I'm able to see it on the box, but it would be cool to download and play around with it in Excel.
Uploaded an xls: https://www.box.com/s/xmajd8rvpme5u38pdp77
Indeed, Moon Knight & Colossus are two of the additional 'Official characters' pack that didn't make my selection. Namor's in the list because I used him for some time, not anymore (got annoyed with his repeated 'Atlantis is my responsibility', which makes no sense on pretty much any map that's not Atlantis...)
Thanks! The .xls format works.
It is fun to see what mods other people use and how they form their teams. I might organize mine the way you did just to see how much I've changed the original teams.
I'm kind of surprised you don't have Vision. Any reason for that?
(Sorry for the late reply - been on holiday!)
The Vision was a candidate for sure, the mod is overall very well done. However, I decided against him for several reasons:
-I'm not so fond of the use of 'ethereal' powers in the game. While they are true to the characters who have them (obviously, Shadowcat as well), the in-game effect feels a bit buggy to me, or like using a no-clipping mode in a 3D shooter.
-One of Viz' combo moves has him delivering a high kick, which looked too cartoonesque and unnatural to me.
-While I'm a big Avengers fan... Vision has always been one of my least favourite members..! I would rather have Beast, Hercules or one of Hank Pym's alter-egos on my team, but I was less enthousiastic about their existing mods.
At least Vision and Hank Pym feature within the game as NPCs, so the game-world doesn't feel like it's missing these important characters - they're still around.
