Title: Anyone into Marvel Legends?
Post by: shafcrawler on March 01, 2008, 12:55AM
Well, I've always been into action figures, and the Legends line is a dream come true for me. Anyone else into ML?

My favorites among my own figs are:

Psylocke (only coz I love her)
Bishop
Black Panther
Marvel Girl
Ultimate Nightcrawler
X3 Colossus

and I hate my Emma Frost figure coz it's UGLY!!!!!!

Me, me, me, here! :D

I agree that Black Panther and Marvel Girl are pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was Rachel's knees. Other than that, she's perfect. I didn't buy any Hasbro ML figures, just the movie Ghost Rider and Iron Spidey from the Origins line. Not that I hate Hasbro, but the character selection just doesn't grab my attention. Dr Doom is good, but I still haven't got the chance to hunt him down at retail, yet. :(

Though Psylocke is one of my favorite character, I don't like the figure. Her face looks wrong, ugly hip-joints, no ears, no psi-blades, hands in awkward positions... just not my cup of tea :( The prototype that was shown in SDCC was perfect, but the Toy Biz dudes had to make unpleasant changes to the fig. @_@

Moon Knight (non-variant version) and Iron Fist are my favorites. Iceman from the Toybiz X-men line and Toxin from the Toybiz Spider-man line are pretty good, too.

And yes... that Emma Frost's head looks like a man who doesn't know how to put make up on his face...haha She's wearing a diaper, too.... lol

LMAO!!!! So true about the diaper! Since u'r into Marvel Legends, here's pic of a custom psy-knife I made for my Psylocke fig. It's not all that great, but anything is better than nothing!

I actually got myself a bunch of Hasbro ML this Jan. U don't get ML figures in Bangladesh and I used to order 'em from eBay (which cost me a small...er LARGE fortune coz of all da s&h price added and all) so getting my hands on em in a retail store in Germany was like heaven to me! And luckily, I got the black variant Marvel Girl along with the regular one! I also got Cyke, Colossus Emma and Xorn.

Great job!! Your psi-blade looks way better than the ones I have seen on other customs and some lying around on ebay! :thumbsup2: What did you use to make it?

Yeah, Marvel Legends seem to be only "easy" to find at retail stores in the US. People in the US always says the whole aisle is full of MLs, but I have never seen this in Canada... lol I am really happy if I can find all the standard (non-variant) versions already.

Have you see the previews of First-Appearance Storm, AoA Sunfire, Silver Samurai, Magneto, etc. that was shown in ToyFare (magazine) a few months ago? Those ones look great!!! Can't wait to get my hands on them!! :xmen_logo:

EDIT: Do you plan on making a head swap for Emma? haha

What's the point of making a head swap for her? She still has the diaper on! hahaha

I made the psy-blade using a broken clear plastic box. I just used the blowdryer on it till it was soft around the edges, then shaped it with a blade. Then I put rose-red glass paint on it and finally, I added some CORRECTION INK around the middle to make the focused part! Weird or what?

I badly wanted the FA Storm, but it didn't get enough votes. Neither did Aurora. Now my only hopes lie with the Sunfire fig. It'd better be as good as the pic shows.

Btw, is Hasbro ML wave4 out in the US and Canada yet? Y'know, the one with Astonishing Beast? I want the Beast fig!!!!!
Title: Re: Anyone into Marvel Legends?
Post by: iammingy on March 02, 2008, 04:11PM
hahahahaha!!!!! Black Queen shares the same body, but the diaper doesn't look as bad on her... probably because of the black color...?

Interesting idea... but wouldn't the wite-out come off easily after a while (because the surface is plastic)? I think you should use acrylic paint for models (Tamiya, etc.). They stay on plastics pretty well, and you can thin them with just a few drops of water, too.

I think they will release the rest of the gang later anyway. I don't think they will waste the money they spent on the sculpts... haha

No, I haven't seen them, yet. They postponed the inclusion of Astonishing Beast in later shipments... How are people gonna complete their BAF's? That's really stupid... -_-"||

I am looking forward to Spiral though I don't which wave she's in.

yep im into them too, although im picky with the ones i buy. right now i have the urban legends set that consists of daredevil, spider-man, punisher, and an Elektra with white outfit. also have psylocke and iron fist. problem with iron fist, is that his legs only move horizontally. Who does that! "lets make a kung fu toy and only have him move his legs in one direction, not like he needs to kick or anything". I had a hard time trying to put him in different poses, in fact, i broke one of his legs in the process. :(
Title: Re: Anyone into Marvel Legends?
Post by: iammingy on March 02, 2008, 08:26PM
I am picky, too. That's why I've never completed any BAFs...haha

That's too bad... Toy Biz's plastics are more fragile than Hasbro's plastics IMO and their joints are very loose, too.

Tell me about it! My Ultimate Nightcrawler's falling apart! One of it's arms comes off if you pull it a little hard. As far as BAFs go, I haven't completed any either. The only one I really want is the Sentinel (duh I'm an X-Men fan). It was the best BAF in my opinion. I'm only missing it's right leg and left arm. Other than that, I have a Mojo piece, 1 from Galactus, 2 of Blob and 3 of Brood Queen. Sometimes I take the insects torso out, stick her right "arm" in the head peg and pretend it's a mutated snake! lol

As for the ink coming off, I doubt that. It hardens in about an hour and stays on forever. I normally use acrylics for minor adjustments. Used the glass paint 'coz I wanted transparency in the blade, and it sets very well.

I wish i could get some marvel legends figures there awesome but i havnt seen any in the retail stores in australia that i live near and im not gonna pay a fortune to get them off ebay
Title: Re: Anyone into Marvel Legends?
Post by: iammingy on March 03, 2008, 12:34AM
Yeah, I have heard that Legnds are hard to find in the retails at New Zealand and Austraila... I think you would have to rely on your local comic book stores that order them.
Title: Re: Anyone into Marvel Legends?
Post by: Venom on March 03, 2008, 12:46AM
Yeah last time i saw in retail shops was like 6 yrs ago , Comic book stores are also very small in numbers over here i think really theres maybe 1 or 2 in major cities or surrounding them
Title: Re: Anyone into Marvel Legends?
Post by: iammingy on March 03, 2008, 12:53AM
Yeah, it's mainly due to the painful cost of shippings to Austrailia and New Zealand. Imports have to come either by sea or air and the oil prices are so high... @_@

Dude, we don't even have comic book stores out here in Bangladesh!!!! I rely entirely on the net and contacts in Europe and America to get comic books!!!! As for toys, I dunno why but only the Marvel Legends lines don't show up here. Everything else is pretty much available at retail stores.(e.g. Spidey movie line, F4 movie line, DC stuff)

That's mostly because the movies are shown internationally and customers from all ages, whether Marvel fans or non-Marvel fans would be interested in them. So, most retail stores would order them. Legends is more collector-oriented...though it is still classified as "toys".

I rarely see the whole series of DC stuff here... I always see pegs full of Bizarro on the shelves in Toys"R"us, etc... haha

Well, I recently found a doomsday and an old supergirl figure for a sale price. I got doomsday. The good thing about my country is that nobody is that much into comic book-related stuff (except for the prominent ones from movies and tv), so I prettymuch get to get anthing available (like for instance, most people wouldn't be interested in a Chamber or Psylocke action figure, but they'd die for a cyclops or wolverine)

marvel legends are the best marvel toy in this universe.my first legends figure was captian america.and hasbro going to make a marvel legends hulk series, there going to be to line of this series and you have to build fing-fang-foom in bolth series.

Yes, there is a Savage She-Hulk in that series, too. The pics from Toy Fair 08 showed that the figures in the Hulk series sucked... Only the Ronin/Elektra 2-pack looks cool IMO.

True. The Ronin and Elektra 2-pack is the best I've seen in a while. I' also digging the SDCC 08 exclusive Shanna and Ka-Zar. Wish I could get them, but with me stuck on the other side of the world... That Shanna head looks like it'd be a perfect head swap for Psylocke! If I had the chance, I'd just get 2!!!!

It still looks like white tight pants at the waist... It's the ugly little ball joints at the hips that make the pant looks like a diaper.

The hip ball joints on Ms Marvel and She-Hulk don't look like this at all.

I hated the Ms. Marvel figure. I got one ages ago but sold it as soon as I saw how ugly it is. The She-Hulk figure was hot, though. I believe it's the best female ML out there at present, especially becoz of her face (I'm not including Shanna, as she ain't out yet)

I started collecting around the time that Bullseye and Omega Red was released.

Okay!!!! With the help of a relative living in states and working for Hasbro, I've just ensured myself two Shanna figures!!!!! Of course I'll have to wait till summer for 'em, but it's awesome!!!! Now I can repaint and swap a shanna head for Psylocke's!! Also, I'm thinking of ordering a Storm ML online, as I'm missing on her. Any opinions on which 1 I might get?

I suggest one of these:

The white version (which I prefer) comes from X-Men Classics (2006), while the black one is from Marvel Legends Series 8. Both can be easily found on ebay.

Get the black one, the dark paint job masks the joints very well and it looks very leathery! Plus, the cloud base only comes with the Black version; the white version only has a clear plastic flight stand...

How much was it with shipping?
Title: Re: Anyone into Marvel Legends?

I got the figure for 4.50 Euro, and shipping and stuff to Germany cost another 5 Euro, making it a total of 9.50. The reason I got it shipped to Germany is because my grandma is coming for a visit here on the 28th, so she'll bring it over with her. Normally, If I wanted to get it shipped to Bangladesh, it would have cost me no less than $30 for shipping alone!

@Dark_Mark: I'm really sorry bro but I had a fire in my room a few weeks back and a few of my legends(as well as a custom MK Jade figure) got burned. Wolverine is severely singed and has lost his right arm. I had to replace it with a lame XWC Wolverine (the 1 from the X-Men line with a bike) on my display. I'm terribly sorry.

Well, aside from wolverine, I just lost deadpool, which I had a spare of, Mohawk Storm (hence me wanting a new 1), A Psylocke (had about 3 of 'em for customs) and a Beast. Those were dispensible. My only great loss would be the custom Jade figure I made. added a lot of details on her (as she's my favorite MK character) and she was right in the middle of the fire. Got totally distorted. Have to start working on a new 1 (with 1 of da spare Psylockes).

@Solstar: Try searching eBay Germany and eBay France. All you need to do is go to the address tab and replace the .de(/.fr) with .com and the english page will show. They've got a lot of ML figures for sale. I bought most of mine off eBay Germany.

Just started work on a new Jade Custom. With any luck, it'll hopefully be better than the orginal that I lost :(   This totally slowed down my custom diorama project: I am halfwa through making a broken X-Mansion diorama to display a few of my figures. Anybody else make custom stuff here?

Just thought I'd share pics of the bases I'm creatig for my figures. So far, I just finished bases for Psylocke and nightcrawler. Storm already came with a base (thanks to everyone who advised on buying this btw), so I just added her pic as well.

The bases are basically just pieces of rubble. These will add up to the broken X-Mansion I'm working on. They can be kept both individually  and together with the Mansion. Hope you guys like them.

That's not all of them though. I have a total of 46 action figures, 2 cells, four posters and some little stuff, like Hero Caps, Lifesavers (I'm a freak I know), A Beat up Bing Bag thing...cards... I have one limited edition cup with the debut of the Phoenix on it and I have a Silver Mint coin of Rogue...and a calender. lol

Nice to know someone out there appreciates marvel the way I do. Though I don't have that many marvel action figures (You don't get them where I live so I have about 19 of 'em) I have a lot of other accessories. I have all 6 the limited edition X3 posters, A Daredevil and Elektra 1, 1 with the entire Marvel Mangaverse cast, 1 with the X-Men fighting off against the Dark Phoenix, 2 of Psylocke by her lonesome (HOT)self, and a few movie posters like Spidey2,3,X2, etc. I also have a dozen other stuff like t-shirts, calenders, cards, busts, PJs and stuff I'd rather not talk about.

i have some of the x-men legend figure. But i really regret buying wolverine loose he has some spots with little missing paint. But I also notice even new onces do. I got the white storm but i may find the clouds on ebay someday. No wouder why psylocke and emma are cheap they dont look so good. I only use them for posing anyway they dont look so bad. Hey anyone knows where i can find a custom jubilee with her tas custom? Right now my jubilee is her generation x figure which i dont like so much. :(

I don't know, the Psylocke's kinda grown on me. I like the figure. My only query was with the face, but I find from certain angles, it doesn't look half as bad. Too bad can't say the same for emma, though the diamond one (the one I have) looks a lot better than the normal 1.

As for jubilee, I dunno but I did see one by Kyle Robinson at his website (www.kylerobinsoncustoms.com). If you're in or around the US, maybe you can get a custom Jubilee commissioned, as I see he is taking them at the moment.

I had two Rogue's from the X-Treme X-Men versions. The one I got off ebay looked horrible, but the one I found in the store (Wal-Mart), was perfect. The one I'm not liking is the Mystique one. Her hairs too short and she's just not fittin in with all the others.

Agreed. The Mystique figure is horrible. It just doesn't look right. On a side note, If all's well I'll be getting the Shanna figures by the end of summer, so I can replace my Psylocke's head!

You can use extruded polystyrene foam (those that you can cut with a hot wire cutter) for Iceman's tracks. You can make it look more realistic with some paint, especially dry brush.

For Psylocke's psi-blades, you can follow shafcrawler's directions on the 1st page of this thread.

Thought I'd share a pic of this sewers base I made. It still needs another coat of paint, but in my opinion it looks good.

Sorry about the bad quality of the pics. My camera's with my dad who's in China, so I had to settle with taking pics with my cell phone.

Thanks! I swear it looks a lot better in real life, because the water's kinda translucent but the lighting in the pics makes it look opaque.

Still has more painting and slight modelling left. I personally think it's coming out okay.
