Title: Official Characters -- Beta v3 RELEASED (Mar 21, 2008)
Post by: Teancum on March 21, 2008, 05:55AM
IMPORTANT!!!  A small hotfix has been released.  See the bottom of this post for more information.

Click on the picture to download.  MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR HEROSTAT.ENGB
(http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/5637/beta3oy4.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/?vj0dmntj2df)

Size: 53.76mb

Contains every character that appeared in any version of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance:
The Next-Gen exclusives:  :colossus: Colossus and  :moonk: Moon Knight (including an exclusive fourth skin for Moon Knight)
The Xbox 360 Gold Edition Characters:  :cyclops: Cyclops,  :hawkeye: Hawkeye,  :hulk_icon: Hulk,  :nightcrawler: Nightcrawler,  :doom: Dr. Doom,  :magneto: Magneto,  :stooth: Sabretooth and  :venom: Venom
The PSP exclusives:  :blackwidow: Black Widow,  :genis: Captain Marvel and  :ronin: Ronin (Hawkeye is counted in the 360 characters)
Also includes: Heroselect, a great program that will allow you to swap out characters.  (there is a max of 27 characters in-game)
Colossus, Hawkeye, Hulk and Moon Knight come pre-installed.  Use Heroselect to swap them out if you wish

Known Bugs/Issues:
-Doom's sounds are still slightly buggy.  Some don't loop correctly, and the timing isn't perfect yet (to be fixed in the final release)
-Ronin is still missing two skins
-Doom and Ronin have no Xtreme yells (I accidentally overwrote Ronin's a long time ago, and Doom's from the trailer sounds horrid in-game)
-You must have particle settings on high to view certain effects
-Nightcrawler's first outfit doesn't match the mannequin.  Will be fixed in a small patch for those who can't fix it themselves

Updates since the last release:
-Dr. Doom and Venom now included
-Hulk now has sounds
-x_voice updates (you'll now hear menu callouts and goodbye sounds for all XML1/2 characters + the ones in this pack)
-Posed Hawkeye, Hulk and Nightcrawler mannequins
-Re-converted PSP sounds
-Black Widow update - new models, boltons, and mannequin, fightstyle
-Nightcrawler's boltons updated - he'll have swords on his back for all of his skins
-Updated herostat.cfg

Credits:
-Raven Software/Vicarious Visions: The original games (Vicarious Visions did the PSP port)
-Neversoft: For Venom's voice (from the PS1 Spider-Man game)
-THX: for the hosting of this site
-BliZZ: for heading up the mod, and doing the bulk of the conversions
-Tommyboy2002: for the Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Hulk and Ronin models + Dr Doom mannequin
-Dark_Mark: Venom and Magneto models/mannequins + Sabretooth mannequin
-Iammingy: For incredible skins, fixing of effects, new boltons and the Black Widow update
-Norrin Radd: For the additional 3 Dr Doom skins, the Original Sabretooth skin and other misc
-Winstrol: for ZSMEditor, without which we wouldn't have sounds
-Teancum: Character sounds, compiling of beta 3
-Overload: For the posed Cyclops, Hawkeye, Hulk and Nightcrawler mannequins
-Burning Rage, darkmythology: initial 360 conversion research
-Anyone else I forgot: Thanks

Just wanted to ask, is there any limit to the number of herostat character entries we can have in the herostat.cfg? For example, I have the files for a number of characters that I'd like to add to be able to swap in and out, but wasn't sure if there was a limit to work inside of.

I read through the heroselect readme and didn't see anything that mentioned an upper limit, and also glanced at Norrin's thread...but I've always believed that it's best practice to ask if you don't know. (Although in hindsight, I probably could have asked in the thread for heroselect...)

There isn't a set limit (realistically, unless of course you fill it with GBs of entries), so you can add as many as you want. I haven't had it happen to me, but it may be possible that you notice if you add a large amount that it is a bit slower, because it has to go through them all.

Where did you put Dr Doom in your herostat?

Anyone else can't play as Doomy?

I only added Shard and Doom as my characters...

http://www.mediafire.com/?0gmyb2sph9d

Just as what I had expected. Doom is using the defaultman's "slot" (the first entry in the herostat). Please follow the instructions I gave here in the link below and see whether it works on your side.

http://marvelmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=1484.msg28101#msg28101

Basically, what you need to do is remove Doom from your team and add him back in again (and remove any other invisible duplicates).

How about Shard? I know Shard works 100% for sure.

If Shard doesn't work for you, then there is something that you have done wrong. Try a herostat with 27 characters and see what happens.

For what it is worth - my herostat.cfg is currently at almost 90 characters (having added any and all chars from here that aren't pre-alpha + 5 that are kind of my own) and I do not experience any problems or notable slowdowns so far.

I've had no problems with any of the characters in this release of the Official Characters.

Dr. Doom was one of the first ones I tested out.

Heroselect is also working just fine. You have to pay very, very special attention to the instructions given on installing it. If you do not follow them then it will not work, even if it appears the program is running fine.

I found it pretty ironic that Doom had an energy attack that was very similar to one of Iron Man's. They both have that chargeable large energy blast. :)

And his voiceset has me laughing all the time.

Yeah, I *think* Teancum based the sounds on Iron Man's, too. Also, Doom's blocking animation is same as Iron Man's as well. It's a pretty decent character, better than Magneto at least.

Magneto is one of my favorite characters, haha. I think the only weak spot for him is his Xtreme. I suppose everyone has their preferences though. Definitely having a lot of fun trying out a larger variety of characters that the Official pack provides. Each team combo forces you into different techniques of play.

Hey guys, I've been trying to swap out Cyclops and Magneto instead of hulk and Hawkeye, but whenever I use hero select, the same characters remain in the same spot during team select. I offclick the ones I don't want (HeroSel. is in the MUA-game folder) and then click the accept button and launch, but I don't know it keeps messing up. I have a clean install (actually only saved at the Helicarrier, haven't played through yet), installed the Mod (though it says it can't delete output Hero/Characterselect?) and extracted the Heroselect zip into a folder in MUA. Halp?

hi guys, great work on the beta!
doom has already became one of my favorites!
just for the bug report:
the beam on mask of doom seems to be coming from the back of his head
for some reason some characters, like venom, turn blue when they are hit

just small things, all the rest seems fine!

Are you guys making sure you have a copy of xmlb-compile.exe in your C:\windows folder? If you don't have that there, no matter what you do, heroselect won't work right. :( (as far as I can tell)

Almost everything seems to be working fine for me. I'm having a problem with Sabretooth's Talon Frenzy, though. He randomly "warps" back a few steps when I use it. This has been happening since the Alpha versions, and that makes me wonder if it just happens to me...

And before I forget, thank you all for this!

Yes, I have the same issue when using that move, too. I don't think the person who did Sabretooth changed the powerstyle code for that move. So, it should be the same as the Gold Edition. I am not sure whether this is a powerstyle problem or an animation problem... However, I will take a look at this to see if it is can be "fixed".

Teancum, I'm not getting announcer or break sounds for Magneto and no break for Captain Marvel (and other characters not included in this mod). The x_voice is not the same as the one in the "New Menu Callouts 2.1", is it?

Speaking of which, wasn't it the plan for Black Widow to be named something other than "BlackWidow" to avoid conflicts with the NPC, or does it pose no major problem the way it is?

No big problems you will face, you will just see the same skin as the one you picked.
Just change this part in the herostat from

  name = BlackWidow ;

to this:

  name = BlackWidow_hero ;

Dudes, here's a question. Does this incorporate the renumbering and "let's fix the portraits not matching the costumes" fixes done over all the time we've been here, or not and should I want them, I'll have to go collecting them from various threads 'round the board?

Two, post your second question in the HeroSelect thread. There should be a readme when you install the program.

Three, I believe there is a walkthrough on the main page that you can follow.

2) If you're going to bother to help, at least try to help instead of generic info.  He's not going to know where the HeroSelect thread is, and he might not know where to look for the readme.  (@ bleedingcowz -- The HeroSelect thread is right here (http://marvelmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=732.0) by the way, and there's a really nice PDF file Norrin packages with HeroSelect, found in [where you installed Marvel: Ultimate Alliance]/HeroSelect on your hard drive.  And welcome to Marvelmods!)
3) There's not a walkthrough for HeroSelect other than the thread and the PDF that comes with it.

Gevth found a bug with Magneto's menu sounds not working.  I have fixed it (along with a Nightcrawler sound bug), but am adding lots more menu sounds for characters before releasing it.  Some sounds are for future mods, some for current ones.  There'll be sounds added for Vision, Punisher, Havok, Multiple Man, She-Hulk, Mystique, Angel, Dazzler and Captain Britain for sure.  For other characters it depends on whether I find sounds for them.  I also plan to add additional sounds for characters that were appeared in XML1/XML2/MUA (more than once) to give you more variety.  Deadpool will be the first one I update.  I miss some of the XML2 wisecracks!

When I'm finished with that I'll package it along with Iammingy's Sabretooth fix and all previous fixes into a new patch.

Yeah, all of it. I just wanted to see what the DLC characters would be like, and I appreciate that I got to play it. I will use it later though when I do mod the game. But for now, I'd rather have vanilla MUA to beat with my brothers.

It seems I have to run it in Administrator mode, otherwise it reverts back to the modded state. Got it working though. Thanks.

I really hate to ask such a newbie question, but...sigh...
I install MUA, I put in the Next gen pack that adds Colossus and Moon Knight. I extract Official beta3 pack, and then I extract the hotfix beta 3. I use the heroselect program and I choose the characters I want, then I start a new game. I am forced to start with Spiderman, Thor, Captain America and Wolverine, so I make my way to the first place I can switch out characters and I do see Hulk/Colossus and Moon Knight, but I can't find Magneto, Dr. Doom, Venom, Nightcrawler or any of the others. (I had to 'add character' Venom and Doctor Doom with Heroselect but it didn't make a difference).

What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it?
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v3 RELEASED (Mar 21, 2008)
Post by: Sasquatch on April 13, 2008, 05:13PM
Do you see Hawkeye? If you can see he probably your heroselect was installed wrong and your computer isn't creating a new herostat.engb. Go to "actvison" folder, after go to "marvel ultimate alliance" folder and inside this go to the data folder search for the "herostat.engb " file click with the right buttom of the mouse and click in properties now look for the day and hour it was created. After this, use the heroselect and look for the "herostat.engb" file again and see if it day and hour changed for the time you did that. I hope you understand because my english isn't good.

I also think you need to get that XMLBcompile file and throw that in your windows directory so you can get the Heroselect working properly. When I had that in place and the Heroselect zip/folder in the MUA directory, everything ran like butter.

^ Yay.

I just levelled up Mageneto, Venom, Sabretooth, and Dr. Doom to 11.

Magneto and Sabretooth received their extreme powers fine at 10. But Dr. Doom and Venom won't let me put a point in Xtreme attack no matter what I try at level 11 or 12.

When Xtremes say "Requires level 10", it means it. I guess if you wait until level 11 like I did, you can never put a point in again. Fixed it with the "all powers" cheat code. It puts 1 point in everything but it's the only way I knew how.

I don't seem to have this problem and I didn't use any cheat except the "unlock all costumes " cheat.
You need to spend 2 points for the Xtreme for all characters.

EDIT: I looked at the code and compare with other characters. They look fine to me. Try to start a new game with default stats and see if that problem exist for you.

Since it's a beta version: What happens if a new version comes out, will I need to start a new game again?

What if I swap characters using Heroselect, would I have to start a new game?

Do I need to input the all characters unlocked code to play the characters?

That happens if you don't point correctly to where MUA.exe is. That's why it says "file not found". You need to change the game path to where your copy of MUA.exe is. If your game is in C:/Marvel(TM)/ then you need to change to where the program looks for it, since by default it looks for C:\Program Files\Activision\Marvel - Ultimate Alliance\MUA.exe

Hello, all.  I got some trouble with the mod.

Cyclops's "radial attack" power doesn't show up when you try to use it.  I assigned it to the "east" button, and a big "3" is all that comes up when I hold the "powers" button.

His support ("west button") powers seems to have no effect.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any lighting effect when he uses any one of his power.

Did you start a new game? What does the icons look like in the menu? Can you post a screenshot of the menu for powers?

I started a new game, and all the power icons are in the menu.  They just don't have any visable effects.  (no red when he uses any optic blast, no pretty colors when he tries a boots power).  The attacks still connect (like in the first power and the kick), but there is no red for his blast, and for his "all party + defense" boost, he just pumps his fist with seemingly no effect.

I placed all the files for him in the effects/packages/powerstyles, etc.  I have no idea what's wrong.  Can I get cyclops file by themselves?

I noticed that some files in the Beta release were dated as "older" then 2.0 files (beta v3 "modified" date: 07/xx/07, v2 filed "modified" date 10/xx/07.

If "yes," then you are just missing the effects files....

First of all - Thanks very much for putting this mod together.  It is awesome!!!!!!

Second - I installed the mod and it went through just as the instructions stated.  I was able to use HeroSelect to incorporate the new characters.  However, I noticed that none of the flying characters can fly anymore.  Did I miss something?  Please let me know if there is a quick fix for this.

Thanks,

Joe

iammingy - I did start a new game.  I installed a vanilla MUA.  Made a backup copy to a new directory.  Installed the mod, and the hotfix.  Changed the character lineup with Herostart, activated it and launched MUA.  Started a new game in there and was working my way through the levels.  But when I tried to put in someone (I tried Iron Man, Thor, etc) who should fly, he won't launch or double jump, just fell flat on his face!  ;-)  Is there some attribute that I need activate or sometjhing like that to enable flying again?

Thanks,
Joe

EDIT:  I have been doing some reading in the forums...is there any chance that the moveset1 = moveset_flying entry has been modified in the HeroStat file, impacting all flyers?
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v3 RELEASED (Mar 21, 2008)

You can check if that "moveset1" line is still there by opening /data/herostat.xml with a text editor like notepad, then search for ironman or other flying characters

Is there a chance that the line could have been removed for all characters when I compiled the files using HeroSelect?

I had read somewhere that there is a Master Line of code somewhere in the shared_talents file (in the data folder) or the talents file that enables flight overall.  Does anyone know what this is so I can check it out?  Maybe it got changed somehow.

Thanks VERY much.

Hmm . . . As I'm looking this over I realize that some of the things that are listed as "updates" in the recent version don't seem to be working for me. For instance, some of the XML characters aren't doing menu callouts (Juggernaut, Emma, and Magma in my current herostat; Gambit does get one. And Nightcraweler doesn't have bolton swords on his back until he uses them in game. He only has them on the AoA skin in the menu. Suggestions?

   skin_01_name = Ultimate ;
   skin_02 = 03 ;
   skin_02_name = Classic ;
   skin_03 = 04 ;
   skin_03_name = Age of Apocalypse ;
   skin_04 = 02 ;
   skin_04_name = Astonishing ;
   sounddir = night_m ;
   strength = 5 ;
   team = hero ;
   textureicon = 7 ;
      Race {
      name = Mutant ;
      }

      Race {
      name = XMen ;
      }

      BoltOn {
      anim = 47_nightcrawlerDlc_tail ;
      bolt = Bip01 Pelvis ;
      model = 4710 ;
      slot = ebolton_tail ;
      }

      Multipart {
      health = 0 ;
      hideskin = swords_bolton ;
      }

      Multipart {
      health = 0 ;
      hideskin = swords ;
      }

      BoltOn {
      bolt = Bip01 Spine2 ;
      model = models/bolton/nightcrawler_swords_back ;
      slot = ebolton_clawright ;
      }

      talent {

      name = night_power1 ;
      }

      talent {

There's the fixed up in:

There includes different team_back inside that too, remind this:
26 = Hulk
91 = Hawkeye
92 = Cyclops
95 = Magneto
96 = Venom

you have too remember that.

I know it's 27 only, just rename the file into. Sample:
magneto_hawkeye.engb - herostat.engb
magneto_hawkeye.xmlb - team_back.xmlb

Remember, inside the herostat & team_back folder, only
2 DLC Available Characters in a 10 files.

This one is only for 27 Characters in herostat.
replace one file in herostat & team_back folder
to the recent place:
MUA/datas(herostat)
MUA/ui/menus(team_back)

This is the 10 files who's works fine in Official Character Slots:
91 & 92(hawkeye_cyclops)
26 & 92(hulk_cyclops)
26 & 91(hulk_hawkeye)
96 & 92(venom_cyclops)

This one is only for 27 Characters in herostat.
replace one file in herostat & team_back folder
to the recent place:
MUA/datas(herostat)
MUA/ui/menus(team_back)

This is the 10 files who's works fine in Official Character Slots:
91 & 92(hawkeye_cyclops)
26 & 92(hulk_cyclops)
26 & 91(hulk_hawkeye)
96 & 92(venom_cyclops)
96 & 91(venom_hawkeye)
96 & 26(venom_hulk)
95 & 92(magneto_cyclops)
95 & 91(magneto_hawkeye)

95 & 96(magneto_venom)

So... did that yield a character limit > 27? I don't think so...
Teancum already told you those slots do work. The problem is no matter which slots you choose, you always end up with 27 characters. I don't understand why you said people haven't tried.

Do you have images from imageshack.us blocked?  If you do you won't see it.  Try refreshing the page and letting it load entirely.  If that doesn't work, do it again, let it load entirely again.  If still no luck, try it one last time.

First of all - this is an awesome mod.  It works great!!!!!  Thank you very much.

I don't know if anyone else has encountered these, but I have encountered a couple of small glitches that I am hoping are simple fixes.  First, whenever any of my characters are interacting with Nick Fury, the small round picture in the dialogue box is blank and his name shows up as %%NICKFURY%%.  Second, when I choose the Silver Surfer as a playable character, his small round icon in the game shows up as a small blinking red dot.

Please let me know if these are simple fixes or not.  If not, no big deal.  The mod is simply awesome.  Thanks VERY MUCH for all your hard work on this.
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v3 RELEASED (Mar 21, 2008)
Post by: Teancum on June 25, 2008, 08:28AM
That's because you replaced Nick Fury, and the game is looking for him for conversations.  Simply open up NPCstat with XMLBcui, add Nick Fury's herostat entry to the bottom and recompile.  Problem 1 solved.  For problem 2:  Can you get a screenie?  I'm not sure what you're talking about but if it's what I think it is then it's a bug that's never been reported before.

Ok, so I added Nick Fury back into my HeroSelect and his dialogues work perfectly.  Second, regarding Silver Surfer, it is when you choose his alternate costumes.  The attached pic is what the HUD looks like with the HEavy Damage Costume.

Thanks.   :wolverine:

PS - The server wont let me upload the pic.  It looks like a black background, with a silver circle about halfway into the HUD circle.

do you have the xmlb-compile.exe file in your window directory because if you don't have it the heroselect won't work check that and tell us what happen :D
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v3 RELEASED (Mar 21, 2008)

Here's a quick way to check if your herostat recompiled, hrameezh. Copy your herostat from the data folder onto the desktop. Then run heroselelct and pick the characters you want. Before you launch the game, go back to your data folder and copy the new herostat to the desktop as well. If the date/time is the same, then it hasn't worked and its likely you don't have xmlb-compile.exe in the windows directory.

i think i say in the pdf which version you need, but i dont remember, just make sure you put xmlb-compile.exe in c:/windows/ (the pdf file should also say where to put it)

Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v3 RELEASED (Mar 21, 2008)

It might be, however the readme says you need to get the xmlb-compile v2.2, and it gives the site where they can get it. If they would read that, and then dont understand where to get the non-ui version of xmlb-compile, then i would assume there would be more questions of this nature.

I don't think it would be polite to package xmlbcompile with the mod unless someone asks nba2k if it is ok, this is the same reason why i didn't package it with Heroselect in the first place.

Totally agreed.

The reason is many people didn't read the readme (HeroSelect_Readme.pdf) before they start using the program, not even after they have got problems...

First of all, great mod. Truly impressive put them all together.
But I have a few questions:

How's the progress on this mod? Any idea when it will leave beta phase?

I've installed it ok, but I didn't find Doom or Venom on heroselect. It appears they are the only characters not showing there.

About this heroselect, I found out how to build my team, but is there anyway I can only add or replace them, without having to select one by one all over again??  I find this quite annoying especially because I like the way heroes are placed on the begging. And I dont know the correct numbers of each one of them.

Why don't you put Nightcrawler installed by default instead of Hulk? Colossus basically do the same things hulk does.

Talking about nightcrawler, I was taking a look at this screnshot in Alpha build http://marvelmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=1278.0
Is it me, or nightcrawler there looks more polished? The skin seems less square, you know.

And the final question, Marvel really does incentive these mods?
I got a nice headache trying to figure out how on earth could I install them, dont you think there should be a TRULY OFFICIAL programs to help us -me, noob - on installing mods?

One more thing. I also have the problem with silver surf not showing the avatar when using other skins, only the first one shows. It's no big deal cuz' I dont play with him. But it's a bug.

Just one more question

After installing the mod, every time I start a new game i got this windows popping out saying that Cyclops has been unlocked. How do I stop that??

Have you tried decompiling the .engb as a .xml file instead of .txt? You can open .xml files in notepad.

I haven't checked through the entire thread, but I noticed Nightcrawler only has his swords on his back after using them and sometimes his swords get stuck in his hands. Here's a little Powerstyle update to fix that (if it's already been fixed, feel free to disregard)

And Cates' updated Herostat entry works great on page 10 for the in-menu problem.

And I start MUA and everything's just normal. Any solutions on that?

I'm currently redownloading the mod, by the way.

Alright. Redownloaded it and works just fine. However I started with the original team, then I was able to change my heroes from the SHIELD Extraction Point.

Oh! A little question: Do I have to unlock the heroes I don't have (e.g.: Blade, Black Panther, etc.) normally? Or is there a way to get my team complete at once?

Thanks! I've unlocked everything.

The only bad thing is setting up the team on HeroSelect is a little difficult (hard to memorize the position numbers, but anyways I'll sort that out.

Congratulations on this beautiful job!

Don't expect a new version anytime soon.  3 months minimum, likely to be 4-6 months.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone involved not just with this mod but all mods for MUA. I've really enjoyed using characters that I normally wouldn't have ever been able to.

hi everyone!
I just downloaded and installed the characters mod but I don't know why it doesn't work... I start Heroselect, I choose my team and click on start MUA, but when I load the last saved game everything stops and there comes out a window that says: "Game.exe stopped working" :( does anyone know why it doesn't work?

If you downloaded the latest version it should have a pdf.file called heroselect_readme which tells you how to add characters.

Hey all, I am new to this board and somewhat new to MUA.  First, thanks to all who have had a hand in creating the mods and putting together the instructions on how to install.  It has made my enjoyment of the game much greater.

i do have one questions.  I believe I have installed everything correctly and have used heroselect to choose what heroes I want to play with, but for some reason on my PC version of the game I am only able to play with 25 players as opposed to the 27 that are supposed to be allowed.  On the character select screen spots #'s 96 and 26 in heroeselect do not appear.  I was wondering if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong?  If there is a quick setting fix I can make, or if I need to try to install everything again?  Thanks for your help.

Did you backup the original and installed the herostat which is in the Official Characters package? It should enable the other slots.

I have the game backed up on an external hard drive.  I am still unclear what I need to do to add the other 2 slots.  And you will have to excuse me if I need things explained to me like I am a 4 year old.  I am not the most techno savvy person out there.

Is there a file in the original game that I need to copy to the modified version?  If so where is it located and where do I need to copy it to?  Thanks.

Hi, I'm a definite newbie at modding this game so I hope you folks will bear with me! I just started trying to add this mod but can't figure this herostat or Heroselect stuff  out. Here's a few of the questions I have:

Once I install the mod and the hotfix, there's a new herostat.cfg in both my base MUA folder AND in my heroselect folder. Which do I use?

I added the xmlb-compile program to windows and tried to decompile the herostat.engb file with no luck. Then I used the XMLCUI program and got the XML file I was supposed to. Now what? Am I to edit something, or isn't Heroselect supposed to do that?

Looking at the Heroselect program, how am I supposed to know what character is replacing whom in that grid of numbers?

The Heroselect.pdf makes a reference to copying over files from the ui/menus directory into the directory where Heroselect is installed, or else using more than 27 characters isn't possible. Is that correct?

Please be kind to a noob, if you would... I'm having trouble going through all these pages and trying to sort out what to do. I just want to give this great looking mod a go! I do apologize for any questions you find obvious or repetitive but they aren't to me. Thanks very much in advance!

Use the one in the heroselect folder

You'll know who is in your roster by who you add, so that is how you know who you are replacing. There is a picture floating around the forum that shows which number corresponds to the default character. You can also use this one to help:

You can edit it manually or use Heroselect.

The version of Heroselect that comes with this mod does not have these menu files in the heroselect directory because they already come with the mod in the appropriate directories. So you can ignore that. You will be able to use 27 characters if you have installed this mod

Thanks for the tips, Norrin Radd! I'm still having some newbie problems though. When you say to edit the xml file, what do I put in it, then? I noticed that there's nothing on Venom in there... is there info on Venom and perhaps other characters I'm supposed to put in there? Then what, do I change it back to an engb file with the compile program and then put it in the data directory??

Sorry, but I'm just having a lot of trouble with this. In any case, when I run the Heroselect it starts the game but no changes I make stay in effect.

I truly appreciate any patient help or tips you can give.  :)

Well, I thought I had it straight finally... I decompiled the herostat.engb and made an xml file, then edited it  with the new values from the new herostat.cfg containing the new character data... then recompiled it into an .engb file and tried using the Heroselect then. Obviously I did something wrong again, as the game showed the initial MUA screen (with the pics of a few characters in dull gray in the background), then crashed to the desktop stating a problem with game.exe.

What could I have done wrong? Was that not how I was to edit the file?

If you add the information to the xml directly and recompile it, there is no need to use Heroselect. Heroselect is just an option if you don't want to do it manually, and it is a way of storing all your mods information.

The fact that it crashed is sort of good, because it means you were able to modify the engb file. When you are swapping characters be sure to follow these instructions:

dmc, which 2 DLC slot would you liked to used. There's:
95:Magneto
96:Venom
26:Hulk
91:Hawkeye
92:Cyclops

They are the only slot which is non-buged. see mlm_team_back file.

I've downloaded the mod and Moon Knight, Colossus, Hulk, and Hawkeye work fine, but I can't figure out how to get the other characters into the game.  Any help that can be given would be nice and appreciated.  Thanks

But since I don't see the name of the character of Venom (and perhaps others) in Heroselect, doesn't that mean I have to edit the XML regardless?

I've been reading that and other pages several times but unfortunately I just have been getting more confused rather than helped, because I believe I follow the instructions and things don't seem to work as intended.

When I edited the XML file (the .engb I compiled that crashed the game), I basically copied the contents of the .cfg file to it and omitted the character names from each section as the .engb file didn't have those. So my finished file had the original characters plus the new, added ones. What could my mistake have been there?

First I would like to say this program is simply awesome! I am perplexed on one thing though. I am trying to resize Thor as I think he should be taller, but I can't seem to figure out how. I used to just use XMLBCUI to compile/decompile herostat.engb but if I do that the changes do not take effect. When I try to edit the herostat.cfg I get wacky results such as two Wolverines, one of which replaces Thor in the start of the game. How can I edit the characters now?
