Yes, this is where the iconsets will go. TO cover what we have at the moment:

The above only include the part of the image where the icons were -- the empty spaces I ignored :P

I will be ripping and putting up the other XML2 iconsets as I go because the PSP version, believe it or not, has them in slightly higher quality than the PC one, and since MUA uses BMP files that are TWICE the resolution, we do want them to look their best.
I shall also cover all the quest icons as these can be salvaged for power icon use as well since they use the same graphical style. Yes.

This thread will not cover the MUAPSP icons as they are all finally fixed and available for download here (http://www.momoshare.com/file.php?file=266026d63842c8720f22be59f049d694).

OOO. Cannonball and X-Man's don't even look too off, color-wise (which is good, as those are the 2 which will eventually be converted)

Apparently, the makers of Cable's and DP's icons took one too many hits the night before :D

Surprise!
Okay, first things first. "Why PSP?" you will ask.

On the left, we have a DXT3-compressed iconset from XML2PC. Note the dead outlines and poor transitions.
On the right, however, we have the palletized XML2PSP version. Note the smooth transitions and lack of colour bleeding. This is because the pallettized format calls for per-pixel storage, while DXT3 stores pixels in blocks of four to achieve its compression (which kills the colours). Does that answer the question? Good.

Left to right: Pyro, Gladiator(!) and Sabertooth. I don't really know who the game refers to as "Gladiator", but these icons are unique and unused. Enjoi.

Now for the pallettized prettyness. These are in PNG, per-pixel accurate with all the colours packed in. This is as good as it gets.

Yesss. We shall pick out the icons we WILL use, and others will be salvaged for other characters, or to be re-drawn into other characters :D Ayup.

Noel, can you adapt some for my MUA char conversions? With banners? Most have to have certain icons dropped to fit 'em with banners. If you are gonna do this, want me to type up which should be dropped to limit them to 12?

Ackshully, I can do ALL of them in this fashion, once I know which icons are safe to drop (unless the subject has 12 or less icons - so Toad, Rogue, Cannonball, X-Man and Xavier will get them regardless).

Alright, I'll get up a list with all the safe to drop icons. Also, are Beast's icons in PSPXML2? Cause I believe he had some in PCXML2.

EDIT: Here's the break-down: (rows go top-bottom; icons are left-right)
Bishop: Remove icons 2 & 3 from his second row
Gambit: Remove icon 4, row 3
Juggs: Remove icon 4, row 1
Magneto: Remove icon 1, row 4
Pyro: Remove icon 2, row 4 and 1 of the dupes

I can't say for the others as fluid_static was doing Kurt; darkmythology was doing Jean, and Toothy; someone was working on a Sunfire, and tommy did Wanda (although I have yet to see if her values have been adjusted :P)

Beast's icons are identical to XML1's, and of the same quality as in my XML1 pack. You can, however, spice him up with his quest icon from the Quest icon set and probably several similarly-coloured icons from the other chars' sets, no?

All art originates from the Marvel Masterpieces set. And actually belongs to those characters. All of 'em. Yesss.
I merged the two Xavier iconsets together as there was sufficient empty space. This will depend on whoever will be porting him, of course, but I think we'll need to recolour the images later on.

In case anyone cares, the banner images should have a size of 256x64, although only the central piece will be visible entirely, the sides will go off in transition because of the alpha. Yeah.

The banner also gets stretched, yes? I was under the impression that it did, and that it had to be 512 long, but compressed to 256. If not, disregard this :P

Oh, fekt. Alright then, I'll modify them accordingly. No big deal, that's why I keep the PSDs on hand.
In other news, I've upsampled Pyro's and Sabes' icons with the icons they borrowed from other sets (Sunfire for Pyro, Wolverine and Phoenix for Sabes) so that at least half of them would look nice. Once we get word on what to do with Sabes' icons, I'll do those; Pyro's next up on my to-do list :D

I already know I gotta kick the contrast down and maybe mirror the images to prevent the burnout of the colours on the naming; but the fact that the icons look crisp and pretty and the banner itself is quite readable is already an achievement on my part, n'est-ce pas? Now excuse me, I just got me a swell idea for a Mystique powerset and I gotta write it down before I forget it.

BTW, thanks aerophex.. that'll come in handy! I'd like to say Cannonball was next on my list... but the lack of any suitable skins makes me shy away from even attempting to do him yet (which would consist of finding suitable animations, of course; unless Noel pulls another rabbit out of his hat and fixes those too :D)

That's okay Blizz...  Cannonball is overpowered in XML2 and without his southern accent you lose a lot what makes him fun to play as.  (though in Sam's defense, he is a very powerful mutant)

The mock-ups were done with what I could use quickly enough so as not to let my attention wander. I wonder if ADHD is a genuine affliction or just a convenient excuse? In any case, I changed the hero names in order to provide a feeling for how the piccurs will look in action. Yesh. If you want to complain about the coloration, complain, I myself feel it to be too off.

For Nightcrawler, just drop the bottom row. The green one doesn't fit in, and the other one is for his xtreme boost.

May I request that his and Toad's be the next 2 char ones you do?

BTW: For the above banners, I think Juggs' looks fine, but I agree that Bishop's looks out of place. Maybe something more bluish?

Fixed Rogue's and Xavier's banners, made two alternates for Nightcrawler, made one for Pyro. Like, yay. These are relatively HQ, the JPG compression just didn't agree with them. I suddenly became worried that all my snaps clock in way above a 100 kbs XD
Also, took down all previous archives, made one pack containing all XML2 icons I've MUAed to date for comfyness of use.

Not that you don't have a million things to do, but is there any way you can switch icon #2--the one with the target--in the pyro_icons file you worked up with the one with the face and fiery head? The head icon works better for the boost I gave to Pyro.

Having trouble with Phoenix's powerset icons.  I'm using Darkmythology's mod but noticed that I don't have the phoenix_icons.igb.  I've seen her icons here in this thread but need a little help of how to get them into textures/ui.  Is this something I need to use in MUAskinner, etc?  I haven't had a lot of luck with texturefinder and MUAskinner yet (trouble understanding how to find the offsets  :scratchhead: .

Noel, if you don't have an idea, how 'bout using the top portion of a Japanese flag for Sunfire's banner? Just the top third or so of the rising sun on a white field would look sweet and different from the other firey characters. The icons you reorganized is perfect for his powerset.

If luck be willing, I will have Sunny, Sabes, Wanda and the icon-switched Pyro (to fit the WiP mod) up later today (well, 'today' in this time zone's sense, where it's only 7:40AM).

Noel, can you move Wanda's icons a little bit higher on your list? She is my pet project of sorts until the DLC is released. For her, remove the clover and the generic red/blue spiny energy thing.

Yeah, now if only I had an idea as to what to use for her XD Never mind. Used her XML2 loading screen, based off the lossless PS2 image.
Got Phoenix done though, went with the crest image (torn, of all places, from X-Men The End).

For Sunfire, using what you did back in post #8 as the base, I have no need icons 1 and 4 (the flamethrower "spout" and the fire with the little burning on the ground beneath it.) He's not using those powers, and Pyro is already using the icons, so that'll keep those two hotheads a little more diversified.

You didn't have to insert ALL of the XML2 quest icons - some of them would be better off as fodder for character-specific sets, not the talent list. IMHO, naturally.

I was trying to pick ones that could be used as other things, like the abyss one for a rage or confusion power, or the hourglass one for time-related things. I did leave off holocaust, sinister, apocalypse, etc. Eh, it was fun to play around with it.

Anyone up for collaborating on an Angel iconset?  In the meantime I gotta finish up Apoc's icon file for Cates, then it's on to throwing together the Beast iconset since we've got enough pieces to get one started. 

What I'm mostly concerned about is the banner for Angel.  Anyone have some ideas?  All I got is the cliche wing idea.

I made a new set for Rogue.  Being that BliZZ said he wasn't able to get Rogue's Power Theft or Torpedo Strike working, I figured I would give it a whirl.  *shrugs*  I also want to play as her, so I have motivation.  What do you guys think about the icons?

Rogue's Torpedo Strike was fixed.... I think I've almost figured out the Power Theft too. But, if you want to do it, well, that's your prerogative.

The main thing I was waiting for (for Rogue AND Scarlet Witch, who are the 2 of my 4 wips who are the closest to done) is new skins. Classic Rogue (I think, since there are no proper females w/ the jacket, we'll have to just drop it, in all of its brown glory :ugh:) and Ultimates Scarlet Witch.

No it doesn't.  It looks fine in game to me.  The alpha channel will take care of the sides.  I ripped a few other icon sets, and they were all the same size as the one I did.

I'm only working on her because I wanted to use her since I bought the game.  I'm not knocking on you.  Did you get everything else working, i.e. grab-smash, team xtreme, etc.?  I got most of her powers working.  Torpedo Strike I can't get to do damage, and I can't figure out Power Theft either.  Everything else works like a charm.  Besids, I'm sure our work is different enough to where that fact doesn't matter.  *shrugs*

Nah.  I got 3d Max now, so I'll be doing Rogue's classic skin, as well as her green and white outfit.  The only problem is I got 3d Max 9, so the Alchemy plug-in doesn't work.  Not to mention if I did get Max 4 or 5, I can't install the plug-in because Noel hasn't told me how he was able to do it (the site is down, and I can't get an activation number).  I can do the models though.  I began work on Emma Frost's astonishing outfit last week in my modeling class.

Yes, it does. It has nothing to with the sides; it has everything to do with the game stretching it out to twice its width. The other icons were the same size because the banner was 512 SHRUNK to 256, so that when the game expands it it looks natural.



Grab-smash, everything, done. Just the power theft left to go.
