Title: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: kfcrispy on July 22, 2009, 09:26AM
have you seen previews for this game? it looks exactly like a super-deformed copy of MUA... it does look like there is a party vs mode (maybe like the Super Smash Bros games). there's like absolutely no information about it but it will be coming to PC and all other systems.

I have seen the trailer it looks like MUA but based on that kid marvel characters brand. The party vs mode to me just looked kinda like a boss battle in MUA but I havnt seen the trailer in a while so I may be wrong.
Its a fairly new game that was revealed around E3 time.

I don't think this is coming out for PC either.  I heard it was PS2, DS, Wii & PSP

So this... Game isn't coming out on Next-Gen consles (WII isn't really counted as a Next-Gen).
Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: Venom on August 07, 2009, 01:07AM
I dont see how you can say the Wii is really counted as Next-Gen when it is.
Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: Unknown on August 07, 2009, 01:19AM
Okay it's counted as one but the graphics doesn't have as many as the PS3 and the X-Box 360. And the memory card doesn't hold as much as the PS3 and the X-Box 360.

The best analogy for graphics is this:

You can polish a turd as much as you want but it's still a turd.

I'd prefer to play games instead of watching an interactive movie. The Wii actually has a lot more storage space than you think - it accepts SD cards which:

a) Are cheap
b) Can hold several GBs of flash memory

In the future keep your hands away from the keyboard if you don't know what you're talking about.

The Wii is quite literally nothing more than a GameCube with more RAM, a faster processor, WiFi and motion sensing.  Take a look at the guts of both, or better yet take a look at the proprietary file formats for GameCube and Wii -- they're the same.  Why do you think it can run GC games and still be so cheap?  The 360 has to actually emulate old Xbox games, and the PS3 had a special chip for emulations.  No, the Wii can barely be considered next-gen.  It literally is a GameCube with special controllers and the ability to push more polygons.  It can't do any real-time effects like HDR, specular maps, etc.  (And "The Conduit" doesn't count.  To the trained eye that game is full of "smoke and mirrors").  Oh, and storage?  Last I checked (recently) the Wii had trouble with lots of 8GB and bigger SD cards.  Hardly competitive.  The Wii is a nice system, but to say it can play with the big boys just isn't true.

Sorry, I'm just tired of people talking like the Wii is some underrepresented next-gen console.  It's not.  It's a GameCube with some gimmicks -- really smart ones.  So much that you can't lump it in with the PS3/360 if you want to be fair.  It's in a category all it's own - that is until the PS3 motion controller and Microsoft's Natal updates come out.

US Agent and Spider-Man 2099 are alternate costumes right. I'm suprised Captain Britain and Nightcrawler are in. I just have to pray Jean Grey is in. I'm suprised how in the show we have Wasp, Scarlet Witch, and Songbird but no Jean. If Jean doesn't make an apperance in the show I guess I can count her out.

Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: marvelfan12345 on August 07, 2009, 11:07AM
Yeah but it says over 20 characters so I bet less than 25. Characters like US Agent and Spider-Man 2099 take up great slots for great characters when they should simply be alternate costumes. And I don't mean Jean but many others like Gambit, Deadpool, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Cyclops, etc.
Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: Teancum on August 07, 2009, 11:09AM
Jean, Deadpool, and Cyclops have been in many, many games.  Personally I'd rather see some lesser knowns.

Yeah but this game is based off on popular marvel characters. I mean this is based of a toy line that obviouslly features well-liked characters so people buy them. When has someone who barely knows Marvel say hey do you know US Agent. Honestly in my opinion the roster should be based on these pics as they feature Marvel's most known and popular characters like DD, Elektra, Cyke, Doc Strange, Jean, Rogue.

http://imagecache5.art.com/p/LRG/21/2186/LTQCD00Z/marvel-heroes.jpg

There is a reason that was once my old profile pic. And underneath I wrote "The Ultimate Alliance".

http://www.iposters.co.uk/images/P/Marvel-Heroes-Poster-96.jpg

I'm also now doubting Black Cat's apperance.

Yeah but this game is based off on popular marvel characters.

No, it's based off the TV series and toy line.  Popularity has zero to do with it.  It has to tie 100% in to the TV/toy line.  If you want a popularity contest follow MUA2.
Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: marvelfan12345 on August 07, 2009, 11:15AM
Yes but as I wrote above people include popular characters in a toy-line. Not many people will buy from that line if it featured characters like US Agent, or Toad.
Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: Teancum on August 07, 2009, 11:27AM
Sure they will.  You're fooling yourself if you think the bulk of people will buy this game are hardcore Marvel fanatics.  Nope, the money will come from parents who want something safe for the kids, people who watch the TV show or have the toys, kids who see it in the story and beg their parents for it without knowing anything about it, and people who want a family/party game.

Besides, Jean isn't featured in the show, and it doesn't seem to hurt the show.
Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: marvelfan12345 on August 07, 2009, 11:35AM
I know I don't want my opinions all about her. I will be suprised if she is in. I'm just saying that it is weird how many obscure characters are in and well known ones aren't in.

I doubt Punisher, Blade, Ghost Rider, or Deadpool's inclusion now. Perhaps even Elektra.
Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad
Post by: Teancum on August 07, 2009, 11:49AM
Well, counting Spidey 2099 and US Agent as separate we get 24 characters, with them as skins, 22.  So maybe they're generalizing at this point because they're not sure how many will make it in.  I dunno.  That could also be just the number of players in adventure mode only (I.E. heroes).  Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If I had to guess I'd say there's still plenty more characters to be found.  Just by the major players in the TV series:

Hawkeye
Ms. Marvel
Luke Cage
Punisher
Wasp
Quicksilver

Wow I would never have spelled it like that. I went to Toyrus once with my little sister and I saw a Dark Phoenix Jean figure in a pack of Marvel Heroes with like DD, Wolverine, Iceman, etc. I've also seen her White Phoenix figure with a Wolverine figure. I've seen a pic of her Phoenix costume figure online.

Title: Re: Marvel Super Hero Squad

My problem with it is this:  Gambit is my absolute, all time favorite character out of ANY comic book series/publisher.  But I don't make it a point to try and slip his name into every thread on the board and put it in everyone's face, all day, every day.

There's nothing wrong with loving Jean.  She's an awesome character.  But it becomes annoying when mention of her is found everywhere, often skewing the topic slightly.

Played the PSP version of the game. It's not similar to MUA in any way further than also being a beat-em-up with Marvel heroes as the protagonists. The camera is extremely wonky, the action highly repetitive with little space for variety, but I'm still playing. It feels a lot like the recent LEGO games by Traveller's tales, with the extreme parody factor.
I'm gonna throw up some screensnaps later on once I manage to get through the first stage (which glitched out on me with a "defeat everyone" victory condition apparently NOT considering being thrown into a bottomless pit as 'defeated').

Noelemahc, you also need to free the soldiers from the bunkers... I tried the Wii version and had no idea how to do this because the instructions said to press the the down arrow, which I did, but it never mentioned that you should HOLD it down! After finally figuring that out, there is another set of instructions to tap the Z button.

I hated the short time I spent on this game. The targeting is definitely annoying, the missions were really lame (just one open area with nothing to explore and enemies keep spawning/dropping down, more than there should be...)

The worst experience was "protect the door", where I was looking for some other objectives because all that was happening was enemies kept spawning, and after a long long long time, a different enemy spawned (Abominations). Unfortunately with no instructions whatsoever, I don't know how to use my character properly and had to retry the first story-line arena battle like 3 times before I won.

The arena battling is annoying in a "good" way, as in the computer is actually smart and knows how to use the characters. I then tried to use "Practice Mode", but the computer doesn't stand there, he attacks! Computer Hulk kicked my Iron Man's butt..... and dude, how to you block? Do you just stand there and it auto-blocks? It also seems some attacks are not auto-blocked so you have to figure out how to counter before they launch their unblockable attack.....????

QuoteNoelemahc, you also need to free the soldiers from the bunkers...
After that, on the "stop the enemies from breaking down the doors" scene.

The bottom line? Like Virtual On, this is a game which, if you yourself aren't getting good at, you'd better watch someone who IS good because then it's a wonderful action movie. Otherwise, steer clear.
