Title: 3rd Person Camera Mod V1.1
Post by: Gevth on August 19, 2009, 06:19PM
This is a little something I made for fun.

Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?fz5zzyhzrkt

Preview Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDf7yC66tUs

Pretty-skin-camera-add-on (as seen in the 2nd page!): http://www.mediafire.com/?1hymdmhddzj
goes in scripts/common. Replaces the 3rd person camera with a really close one from the front, to take pictures of skins.

Added in Version 1.1:
-Capacity to switch between Regular and close camera; when blocking hold jump.
-Camera is reset to normal in each new area.

1) Just the facts:
This mod puts the camera right behind the player controlled hero.
Some to all cutscenes will be broken, this might be a problem on some fights and levels.
It was made for fun.
It was made in a few hours.
It's really rustic.
It's really clunky.
It's as chaotic as hell (as in, hell is the total opposite of heaven, which is mostly in order)
Some to all cutscenes will be broken, this might be a problem on some fights and levels.
No need to start a new game.

2) Going back to how it was before:
It replaces fightstyle_default. A backup is provided.
To return everything to normal, put that backup in data/fightstyles.
No need to start a new game.

3) Other issues
I expect it to have indefinite and infinite bugs and other problems.
Some to all cutscenes will be broken, this might be a problem on some fights and levels.
Won't work if your team consists only of characters with a new fightstyle.
At least one character must have fightstyle_default (check herostat entry, all official characters have it).
Examples of mod characters with new fightstyles: Iron Fist, Punisher, Invisible Woman with add-on, Mystique, etc.
When you change characters, it takes a couple of seconds for the camera to get in position.
If you do one action for a little while (like running on a straight line, or using Captain America's Shield Charge), the camera will be left behind.

I've tested it only a little, but so far, it's incredibly fun, nevertheless.

I don't think I'll be updating this. Ever.

Thanks to the master$$$ for the camera angles.
Thanks to Teancum for the study and info on .py scripts.

Storm looks so badass here:

Really difficult to take screenshots while flying, but I got it, great detail...

One more thing: I've got no idea what would happen in multiplayer. Chances are the camera would jump wildly between the player controlled characters, every few seconds, or just stays behind the 1st player.

In any case, better to just put the old fightstyle_default.xmlb before starting a multiplayer game.

UPDATE: I came up with a way to give the player the ability to switch between normal and close camera.
With the new version (V1.1), hold jump while blocking, until the camera changes. The camera resets to normal view whenever you enter a new map.

IMPORTANT: If you think of any other way to improve this, post it here. If I think it's possible, I'll address it, or at least give an idea on how it could be done.

Woah, really. This is amazing. :D One thing I didn't like in the older version was that some objectives were hard to ochieve with camera so near the character. Now I can change it whenever I want :P
Thanks, "Big Scripting Guy" :D

I take that as a no.

And Gevth, if you don't get Marvel Modder status from this, I don't know how you'll get it!

In other words: Awesomeizzio!

The latest in easy-and-fast-to-do things for this mod: pretty-skin-camera-add-on!
(http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/987/venomc.jpg) (http://img193.imageshack.us/i/venomc.jpg/)

Add in scripts/common to have a pretty screenshot of your favorite skin!

download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?1hymdmhddzj

Replaces the old 3rd person camera. Don't try to play with it on, the camera will always go back to being in front of your character, making it almost impossible to go forward.
If only I could time travel to the past and add some way to turn it on and off by just holding block and pressing jump...

If you want to play through the game, you want the one at the top of the first post.  It will put the camera behind the character.  The link in the post above yours puts the camera in front of your character, which makes it great for taking pictures, but not for playing through the game.

Been working on camera mods, this is one of the most provocative mods in the forums, but i haven't figured out how to get 1st person camera, any ideas? I think it would be fun is only real reason, and i could get some sweet screen shots from 1st person.

Download the file from the main post, merge it into your game's folder. Then download the cameramod.py file from the later post and replace the one in the scripts folder. I know he said you don't, but you do have to start a new game (I had to, at least).

Thanks Gevth, sorry I hadn't seen it before. I knew about the camera "behind" the character, but didn't realize the one put it right in front, exactly what i was looking for. Hopefully, I can return the favor by providing some mods of my own soon, not as sloppy as my old ones :)

Has anyone tried this mod in awhile? I just did on MUA and it doesn't seem to work. The mod I already have installed is the 50 Roster Hack if that makes any difference.

This is an ancient mod and never worked perfectly to begin with, so I'm not surprised it doesn't work. I know that no one has worked on it in ages, so it's unlikely to get compatibility fixes with latest mods.
