Post by: klelement10 on May 16, 2010, 06:37AM
Can someone please make a MOD for psp That can let us have :nightcrawler: and many more characters ( please nightcrawler ) that would make the game even more fun!

To bad that is inpossible. There are already mods for PSP that let you have Moonknight and Collosus.  Its inpossible for 2 reason (i think)

1. the PSP could barely take Nightcrawler. Since he is a character for the xbox 360 and ps3. The psp doesnt have that much grapich
2. Its inpossible to convert somthing from the xbox 360 and ps3 to psp. If it was possible the mod would already be made

FALSE -- no offense, but if you don't know, don't guess.

PSP mods are totally 100% possible, but we have to use stuff from the PSP versions of XML2, MUA1 and MUA2.  The problem is there aren't any modders who own a PSP and console/portable mods are harder to do, so it's not something a newbie could do.  It's fairly possible, it's just that nobody who knows how has a PSP.

If you send me a PSP I'll do it for you.  :chuckle:

Hmmm.  I might actually be interested in sending you a PSP (yours to keep) for a mod.  I want to find out some more about the possibilities you can get together for this mod.  I am just finally getting around to using my PSP that I have had since the PSP launched.

MUA 1 is still my favorite game on the PSP, although I haven't yet purchased MUA 2 for the PSP.  My understanding of the PSP MUA2, is that it is like MUA1, but scaled down (Less costumes, shorter story, etc)...so I am not sure which game I would want mods for....most likely MUA 1...with some of the characters from MUA 2 more than from XML 2 (I like the X-Men well enough, but I enjoy the non-mutant heroes more, for the most part)  Avengers mostly.

Anyway....I am looking to come into a large chunk of change around August, so buying me a new PSP so I can send you my old one is not outside the realm of possibility, or simply Paypalling the money for you to buy your own PSP from Ebay or something.

Let's talk turkey...what type of mods would be possible for the PSP if you had one?
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: Teancum on June 25, 2010, 06:09PM
I've got a PSP now, I just haven't got it modded yet, so I can't run MUA1 from a memory card, which'd be a requirement for a mod.
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: MonitorAccess on June 27, 2010, 12:18AM
Cool enough.  I'm curious to see what needs to be done with the PSP for this type of mod.  What type of things I would need to do to my PSP to use a possible mod, etc.

I never got to use the mods for MUA 1, since my PC does not have the video capabilities to run the game...until I finally get to upgrade to a new PC in August.  The reason I could not run the game was that I could not use the video cards supported by the game.  The only cards supported by the game are PCIe cards, and this PC does not have PCIe.  So I have had to wait until I can upgrade my PC to one that has PCIe so the card can run Shader 3.0, etc.

It has sucked because I have not been able to get ANY games for my PC as all of them are now requiring that type of card usually.

You'd have to have your PSP modded so you can run the game from the memory card.

Yep, but you can't go nuts with PS2 skins or the framerate will be horrible.  It's lowrez for a reason on the PSP.
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: MonitorAccess on June 30, 2010, 07:16PM
Well, I will look into getting a modded PSP then....I just ordered a used copy of MUA 2 for PSP from Gamefly today...it is due to be delivered on Friday.

One thing I would geek out on is if all of "Caps Kooky Quartet" could  be playable in this environment.  Quicksilver is a boss villain in MUA 2, Scarlet Witch was playable from XML2, Hawkeye from MUA 1 on PSP, and Captain America from both MUA 1 & 2.  We got the makings of most of the great Avengers from their past (aside from the ones mentioned above):

Thor (MUA 1&2)
Iron Man (MUA 1&2, XML2)
Black Panther (MUA 1)
Black Widow (PSP MUA1, MUA2)
Ms. Marvel (MUA 1&2)
Hulk (MUA 2)
Hercules (MUA 2)
She-Hulk(MUA 2)
Wonder Man  (MUA 2....YES!!!)

Only ones I would miss are Hank Pym (Antman or Yellow Jacket versions), Wasp, and one of my favorite Avengers of all time, Hank McCoy a.k.a. Beast!

EDIT:  Hmm.  Easy peasy mods for me, since I have a PSP 1000.  I can actually get everything pretty much pre-done for less than $50 including shipping, that would be for a Pandora battery to downgrade my PSP to firmware 1.50, and a Magic memory stick to put custom firmware on it to run games from the stick.  This is getting even MORE exciting as I look into possibilities.

True.  However, if I am going to dream about it, I might as well dream the way *I* want it.  8)

Oh...and I *knew* I forgot someone.....Vision.  I'd want to include Vision in an Avengers style mod.
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: Teancum on July 01, 2010, 09:23AM
Just a heads up, PSP mods will be pretty crippled in terms of what they can do.  The PSP can only use animations from the three PSP games (and I'm not sure about XML2, it's a unique case), and can only use PSP or PS2 skins.  As such I'm only planning on putting in characters that were pretty much done in another game (for example, porting Hulk from MUA2 to MUA1).  I don't have much free time anymore, so I'm not going to convert any custom PC mods over, nor create new ones.  It'll be rough enough with the research I'll have to do to figure out what I can and can't do on the PSP, plus making Xtremes for MUA2 characters I back-convert, and Fusions for any characters put in MUA2.

If I were to hazard a guess as to what I'm planning on:

MUA1 (the first two I know there's enough room for, and more may work since we've never discovered the hero limit on PSP)
-Moon Knight
-Hulk
-Gambit
-Venom

MUA2
-Hawkeye
-Ghost Rider

XML2
-??

If you might take suggestions for XML2, then I would suggest Psylocke's MUA2 version for XML2. She isn't a storybreaker either. And Cable may be good for MUA2 if you don't think he breaks the story too much.
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: Teancum on July 01, 2010, 01:46PM
Yeah I thought about Psylocke for XML2, but personally I want to see what I can do with Jubilee first.  Psylocke would definitely be my #2 pick though.  I just remember Jubilee from the 90's cartoon series and feel like she's under appreciated, whereas Psylocke's been in a lot of games.  Cable's a good idea though so long as I can come up with Fusions.  That'll be the tough part when it comes to MUA2 characters.
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: MarvelFan12345 on July 01, 2010, 02:42PM
Jubilee is one of my favs too. I was thinking you would only use characters that are playable in the PSP versions so I thought Psylocke would be in then. I'm guessing you haven't figured out the limit for XML2 and MUA2 right now.

Also in MUA2 will Cable be locked on Anti then? While you could use fusions from Deadpool's weapons or Jean's tk power the problem would be animations for the fusions wouldn't it.

And will Fury still be playable in MUA2?
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: Teancum on July 01, 2010, 03:20PM
Actually after reading some of Noelemahc's posts XML2 animations don't work in MUA1, so I doubt they'll work in MUA2.  That being said Cable is out.  I'll probably stick to side-neutral characters, or maybe someone who never participated but would be fun to use, like Dr. Strange.  As far as Fury goes if I only get one character to play as he's getting ditched to let me build a second character.  I can't stand it when they have people who are huge parts of the story playable.  *cough*DrDoom*cough*NickFury*cough*BlackWidow*cough*
Title: Re: PSP Mods

I hate that too and I'm glad we are gonna have Dr. Strange. Hawkeye and Ghost Rider are good choices too. I think Cable had some story- breaker stuff in the Anti side anyway. Any chances of Spider-Woman and Elektra as well. If you have room that is.

Not exactly who I would go for, but you are the one doing the work, so anything done is by your pleasure.

Here is a list of the PC's from the 3 games, from the PSP rosters for the most part (I slipped in Moon Knight and Colossus for the MUA 1 roster, since I know there are already some mods for them in it.)

So, if I am correct in what Teancum is saying, it should be easiest to port characters between XML2 and MUA1 since they both have EXTREME powers ready to go, while moving those into MUA2 would require more work on the fusions correct?  While moving from MUA2 to the two earlier games would require making an Extreme.

Black Panther   MUA

So....it would actually be possible, from a gameplay perspective, at least, to replace the brotherhood of evil mutants in the XML2 with heroes from MUA in a modded XML2.  Sure the STORY would not make sense, but you could run those characters.   Sounds like there is a LOT of fun to be had for mods for XML2 and MUA1 especially.

Teancum will have to answer definitively, but I would think no...it is probably only going to be possible to pull the characters from the PSP/PS2 versions...since the 360/PS3 versions are from an entirely different engine.

Nothing on the 360/PS3 versions of MUA2 works on anything else, so no Carnage.

Nope -- after reading up on another modder's research XML2 was really unique.  It can't take animations from any other versions or games.

Again, if it's not easy (easy for my skill level) I probably won't do it.  I just don't have the time I used to with a promotion at work, a wife and baby.

If you do something, "Great."  If you don't, we'll all survive. 8)

I was looking at the rosters again, after reading what you have said lately and broken it down this way.

From MUA2 to MUA 1 you can possibly bring the following:

Hulk
Gambit
Jean Grey
Penance
Psylocke
Songbird
Venom

From MUA 1 to MUA 2 you can possibly bring the following:

Black Panther
Black Widow
Captain Marvel
Colossus
Doctor Strange
Elektra
Ghost Rider
Hawkeye
Moon Knight
Ronin
Silver Surfer
Spider-Woman

Those are just using the PSP versions of the game (IIRC the work for Colossus and Moon Knight was always in the PSP version, just not turned on to access...I could be mistaking that with the PS2 version though.)

For MUA 1 the only one I don't care if it comes over is Venom (I have the 360 version...and I am just not that big a fan of Venom...I'd rather beat ON him than use him, honestly)  Although if I could only pick 3 I would probably go this way:

Gambit
Hulk
Songbird

For MUA 2 the only one I don't care about is Elektra.  The ones I would like to see the most are the Avengers obviously (Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Black Widow) .  If I had to choose only 4 they would be like this:

Hawkeye
Dr. Strange
Ghost Rider
Silver Surfer

Again, I am just speculating on what I would like to see.

I understand that one...Jean certainly has her fanboys...and sometimes they can get annoying.  Over at the Hero HQ boards the same feeling I get is for Emma and Kitty.  They were pushed so hard, that I don't ever care if they get made as a playable in a game ever.

I will say this though...I actually enjoy using Jean in MUA 2 on the 360.  She has my favorite alternate costume too in her First Class outfit.

I had fun with her in the game, so much so that I am not as ambivalent about the new X-Men RPG they are going to make as I normally would be.  I am really hoping they get the WHOLE first class in, and each of them gets that outfit as an alternate.

Unfortunately we can't use the 360 version which is the one you are talking about. Her Ps2/Wii version is the XMl2 Version but updated so she is much more powerful. SHe was in fact one of the most powerful characters in the game if not the most.
Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: Teancum on July 03, 2010, 05:54PM
Finally modded my PSP.  I've got MUA, MUA2 and XML2 dumped to my memory card and running off it.  First step: taking characters from other games and adding them to the herostat.  I want to see what the character limit is, and even though the characters won't use all their powers properly, they'll fill out the herostat and that's all I need.  Once the game locks up I know I've got one character too many.

*EDIT*

Hmm, random... all of MUA1's sound files are still present in MUA2.  Guess they kept em since they could still fit the game on a UMD.

Title: Re: PSP Mods
Post by: Teancum on July 06, 2010, 10:45AM
So MUA2 characters "work".  At least Gambit does anyway.  It's a start since I can't use XML1 or XML2 animations.  That makes new characters (Colossus, Moon Knight, and Gambit) without breaking the herostat.  I haven't been able to get the 360 DLC stage to load, so I may have to do "hidden" characters like I did on the Xbox.

As a side note, the framerate in MUA2 PSP is HORRIBLE!!! It looks prettier, but I'm pretty sure that's because Savage Entertainment didn't optimize it for the PSP like VV did with XML2 and MUA1.  It  looks like they just straight-ported the PS2 assets when you look at the visual quality.
