THE MARVEL MODS SOLO TOURNAMENT: DEBUT EDITION
This is a tournament to be played with a single character through the Hard mode of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Can a single warrior possibly stand up against the might of Doctor Doom and the Masters of Evil? We shall see!
Now begins the rules, which shall be known hereafter as the Rules:
GETTING STARTED: Single Character, Hard Level, Use Default Statistics
WHO CAN I PLAY AS?: Any MUA Character or Mod you want, provided no one else is playing that character at the present time. See the most updated version of the standings (more info on that below) to determine if the character you want to play with is currently "active." With somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 characters available from MUA, the official characters pack, the XML2 Pack, and our other awesome Marvel Mods, you should have plenty of heroes (or villains!) to choose from.
STARTING MONEY AND THE DEFENSE PASSIVE: When beginning the game, you can use the SHIELD Credits Cheat to gain 100,000 coins. You can use 45,000 of those coins to spend on the DEFENSE passive of any of your costumes, either maxing out a single costume Defense passive or splitting the 45,000 credits between different costume defense passives. The remaining 55,000 must be dumped into a character you are not playing, so everyone starts playing with zero credits. The cheat code for starting money is:
Up, Up, Up, Left, Right, Left, Enter
at the team menu or hero management screen.
REDISTRIBUTING SKILL POINTS: You may redistribute the Default skill points in any way you wish before you begin the game.
COSTUMES: You may use any of your character's costumes, invest in costume passives for multiple skins, and switch costumes as often as you like.
DEATH IS FINAL: If you die, even once, you must start over on a new run through the game. You can do this with the character you died with, or choose a new character. You may re-enter as many times as you wish.
"TWO-PLAYER" MOMENTS: When the game calls for two characters, you can bring in a character for that act (such as pressing a dual switch), but you must port them out as soon as possible. As soon as your portal is ready, you must port out and take the extra character away.
SIM MISSIONS: Any character who has a sim mission may play that mission once and once only, no matter your success or failure. Characters with sim missions can also play all the "VS" Missions except one (of their choosing). Each "VS" mission must be played solo, and one time only. A character without a Sim Mission (such as Venom, Magneto, Etc.,), can play every "VS" Mission, with the same rules applying. Thus, each character gets the same number of sim mission chances, regardless of whether their character has a sim mission or not.
WINNING: The tournament ends when no one has posted a progress update in this thread for one week. The winner will be the player who has gone the farthest through the game. If there is a tie (such as two players finishing the game), the winner will be the one who completed it in the shortest amount of in-game time, as displayed on the save/load screen.
POSTING YOUR PROGRESS: As you make significant progress in your quest against Doom, such as defeating a boss or entering a new act, you can post an update in one of two ways: Just write your update in the plain, old message format. Or if you're more forum savvy, copy the current standings and update it to reflect your progress. (I reserve the right to limit copying the whole table to myself and moderators if it gets too honkin' big.) A final note on the table: To make sure the columns stay straight, paste everything into a text document, make your changes, then paste the revised version into your post.

Part of the fun of this tournament is trying to stay alive as long as possible--feel free to share NDE's (Near Death Experiences) or other fun times from your run through the game in this thread. If you die, please tell us the manner of your demise, no matter how embarrassing: ("I was stunned by a barrel from an ultron striker, then punched mercilessly!") Creativity is encouraged in reporting progress, NDE's, or actual deaths.

Touney looks fun, but I doubt I have time to really play and make it competetive. I'm still trying to get used to playing the game on PC vs. Console.

I'm really not looking forward to fighting Bullseye.
Just remember Bullseye has a pattern, and use block wisely.
I'll take Dr. Doom, since I understand he has a conversation with himself in the end, right?
Remember that there's a 5 minute time limit too. I guess I failed because I couldn't kill him before the missile blew up.
I just got past Scorpion and to the first save point.
I'm not sure using Vision is really "fair" since he does have a 'Save Me' button with his minimum density power. Although I *have* had to start from the beginning 3x because I killed myself by using that 'save me' power in the first couple minutes of the game while seeing exactly how it worked as a reminder.
Note To Self: Do not be intangible and try using a jumping smash attack...you WILL go all the way through the floor and kill yourself.

I was making sure I did not use intangibility...I probably should have, as it would have saved my bacon. Well...I'll start from the top a little later. This is certanly a VERY difficult challenge.
Made it all the way through Winter Soldier and Radioactive Man, then got killed at the beginning of the next level. Need to pay attention to the equipment I'm wearing!
Bullseye's tough. Reed used his reflect projectiles boost, which helped a heckuva lot. Not sure how I'll handle both R.M and Winter Soldier at the same time. Good idea to leave some crates around for boss fights in case there's some orbs in 'em, too.

You are right on with my update. I'll start a new game a little later...I'll be using Vision again...and remembering he has another boost besides min. density that I can use.
LOL, I've restarted twice, but can't get through all these guys that require special moves, like 4-4-6. Guess I need to avoid them instead of trying to "teach them a lesson!" That's been the hardest part for me -- to leave any villain standing! HA!

SUCK!!! I was doing super well until I got to Bullseye! There was some kind of glich. He talked to me, but he wasn't really there, so time ran out and now I have to start at the beginning again!
What about the places where u need 2 players?do I just pick the 2nd character then immediately take them off?

OK, I finally (FINALLY) made it to the Omega Base (I think I had to start over eight times before I made it). I have a question. What do we do about Dum Dum Dugan. Does his death count as our own and we have to start completely over? I'm working on that level and noticed that his health is already half gone and I wanted to check before I go on.... :confused:
(I have great doubts that we'll make it through safely!)

My first reaction is to agree. But, I do want to share that I have played some of my own "inventive" games in the past where I limited myself to four weaker characters and had a very hard time getting through and saving Dugan. Keep in mind that there were four of them, and I had to start over several times.
This will be interesting! I suppose we could have a set number of tries, but all those exceptions in our tourney tend to complicate things. I'll go with what you decide.
Here's a quick tip: if you're going to use Dr. Doom, don't ever try to take on him without the Shield on.

I'm going to try Magneto now.
I actually made it through with Dugan safe! But, I left my game on waiting for a verdict about Dugan's dilemma, so my time in the game is off, but oh well. The good part is I made it this far. I was just about to head to the exterior of the Omega when I slaughtered my last victim and moved up to level 31. That was my main goal because I won't be able to play for awhile after tonight and maybe a little in the morning.
I say that he should survive, I mean, he's supposed to guide you on the next levels.
Since Fox did it, and the rest are in agreement, Dugan must survive.
And . . . I'm dead. Ran into a health-regenerating Doombot on the way to the final WS and RM fight and got mobbed trying to take him down. I hadn't had any issues until that moment.
Not sure who I'll take out next. Maybe Hulk.

OK. I'm back in, with Hulk. Just getting started.
I maded to Fang and lost awwwwww, I try tomorrow.
I'm level 32 now and in the Temple of Negrete. For Human Torch, the hardest obstacle by a big margin is those frickin' doom bots. Second was getting Dugan to survive. It will be interesting to see what are the toughest obstacles for other characters. I really have been amazed at how relatively easy the bosses have been so far.
Something happened in this game that has never happened to me before. You know those special orbs that pop up occasionally that charge up your character so that they can use their Xtreme? Well, I just defeated this tough elemental resistant Atlantean guard that kept following me. I got TWO of those orbs from him!
Oh wow this game is becoming more exciting when i start a new mission. So far Atlantis has been really hard to me, the minions, the mini-boses, everything is hard there lol, I have to be more carefull ^^
@fox. I know what do you mean, one soldier on the omega base just gave me 2 of those xtreme orbs lol, and it appears that every single box on that area had xtreme orbs as well, I had at least, 6 xtreme orbs on the floor lol.

Well, I made it to the Atlantean Trenches and defeated the first four guards. However, Byrrah and Krang got me. :( Watch out, just a couple hits from them and I was almost out. I tried retreating to a "safe" corner, but they both followed me. Despite having little health, I hung with them for awhile. However, I never got any health (or energy) orbs from either one of them as the battle went on, so down I went....
Fox, Human Torch, Level 32, defeated by Byrrah and Krang.
I'll try again when I get a chance.
Got to Stark Tower with the Hulk with ease.
I'm using an almost power-free approach: I dumped all my points into his Fury boost (to increase speed and damage and defense), and the rest into cyclone punch, which I have only used against bosses. Hulk's health meter almost never dropped below 3/4 full. His grabsmash, too, is useful for crowd control. Enhanced damage Doombot? Hulk just grabs him and uses him to pummel his pals. I'm hoping one point in Hulk Roar can scare soldiers away from Dugan and keep him alive. This has been pretty fun so far.
I'll update the standings a little later today. Hope we get some more participants!
I'm in. I think I'll give Hawkeye a spin to get things started. Won't be able to play until tonight after work or tomorrow morning when I wake up before the crack of dawn...

I struggled a little in the beginning, but it really helps to be able to cloak myself and send out Dupes to do the dirty work. In order to save Dugan, I had to block him in with about 15 dupes who just sat there. Then I could go about business as usual. I didn't even really play Atlantis. I cloaked myself and tried to avoid all confrontation with Atlanteans. Everytime I did have to fight I just used my extreme to create a whole lot of me's and let them do the rest.

Couple of questions:
1) The trivia machine is allowed, right?
2) Some sim missions have infinite respawning enemies, are we supposed to exploit this? Or out of sportmanship should we play them as fast as possible?
3) Some secrets and powerups are only available if you have certain characters in your team (extra skill point in Stark Tower's Lab for Iron Man, 2 focus powerups in Dr. Strange's room for Dr. Strange). Are those available only if that character is your pick, or can we swap them in to get them?
Finally, there's an easy way to keep Dugan alive:

Ignore enemies and run until you get to the part where Dugan says something was broken. Just a little before fighting Crimson Dynamo. Dugan should have over 80% of his health if you were fast enough. Afterwards you can rush to Crimson Dynamo or go carefully killing all enemies. Once you reach Crimson Dynamo, Dugan is completely safe. But if you're not careful, you can end up fighting Crimson Dynamo as well as some AIM guys and a Super Soldier if you do that final rush.
After beating Crimson Dynamo, you can go back and kill/pick everything you left behind.

Excellent questions, Gevth. I'll go ahead and make some executive decisions here:
1) Trivia is allowed.
2) Sim Missions can be played however you like, but once only. That means you get 20 minutes of killing of those respawning enemies if you choose. Characters with Asgard sim missions might get some more XP for that reason than other characters, but I don't think that's enough to really unbalance things.
3) Yes. You can swap in other characters for purposes of getting those powerups. Essentially, the "one character" rule is for combat only. Your main guy has to do the battlin'.

Finished Atantis mission, Attuma and Tiger Shark were weak I have to say, the other 2, Byrrah and Krang were harder (watch out with them).
I'm on the Valley of the Spirits, right now, carefull with Dragon Man if you can avoid him do it lol, he almost killed me and I had to keep blocking untill my energy was enough to switch to diamond form and/or use my healing boost.
Same with the minions that can stun you, they are tough.

Mandarin, 4 hits from his beams (ice and fire)... just 4 d*mn hits and he left me with more or less 10-15% of my life, if you have a shield use it, you will need it. Oh by the way, if you are good with the "dodge" ability, this is your fight ;)

Angel's Blood Transfusion works on Dum Dum, which is one of the reasons why I chose him. I always have problems keeping Dum Dum alive with four players anyway.
Already did one of my Vs sim disk missions, which actually leveled me up. Used the coin cheat in the beginning to boost up defense, then dumped the extras into other players I'm not using. Earned enough credits to fully boost all of my passives in one costume.
Only problem so far is finding a good ranged attack for Angel. Winged Fury is good in close or semi-close situations, but the Neural Feathers don't do enough damage yet to be effective at a distance. Rushing Gush doesn't have enough range either. Still, Blood Transfusion has helped the most, both for me and for Dum Dum. But now that Dum Dum is safe, I can probably divert some of my skill points to offensive powers.
I'm playing with Dr. Strange, now.
He's made it to Crimson Dynamo twice, dying the first time. It seems you could avoid CD completely if you want to, but the second time, I took it slow, hiding and using Strange's Eye of Agamotto to regen health.
Now I'm level 31, Omega Base, just after killing Dynamo.
Strange has two ways to revive health--Eye of Agamotto and Falteen Flame. That's useful, though Flame was useless against Dynamo. My main attack is Black Magic, turning everything to boxes and really racking up the SHIELD credits. With that "instant death" Black Magic, I can't imagine dying against anything but Bosses, though the bosses will be really, really tough.
Incidentally, I found a cool cheat against Radioactive man (at least with Strange). If you stand on the balconies to the right or left, he'll come under you. He can't hit you with his ranged attack, but Falteen Flame could still hit him. Easy kill!
I'm sure I'll die again at Krang and Byrrah if I get there, but it's fun making bad guys boxes.
I think that against Krang and Byrrah, if I were playing with a character with regeneration, I'd hit them a couple of times, then block until my life was filled, and repeat. 10 hours later, they'd be dead.
Use a character with a shield, one of them (can't remember who) has a gun attack that deals a lot of damage and it's the most difficult to beat, if you have a shield that reflect projectiles, you should be able to reflect the damage of that attack to him or at least avoid that projectile.
I know because on my regular game (4 players) I always use Invisible Woman or Dazzler to beat them.
I'm gonna have to back out of the tourney for a time. I have a couple of deadlines that I need to meet that are near impossible as is. Hopefully I don't return too late.
Perhaps fittingly, weirdness has struck my run with Dr. Strange. Perhaps because of all my running around during the Dynamo fight, Dum Dum Dugan continues to follow me. He has no health bar, but the circle at is feet is glowing red, indicating low health. No matter what I do, he tags right along with me and gets shot by an AIM guy or something and dies, ending the game.
Dum Dum, indeed! Oh, well. That probably saves me the trouble of getting killed by Mysterio.

That exact same thing has happened to me before. Dum Dum is supposed to stay put, yet he continues on into the area that has the shielded guys and, before I leave that level, he gets killed!
Deadpool is free right, ill start as him, Im just at the point where you get the conversation with fury, (Is the money cheat neccasary? I prefer to get my own money in-game)

No, the cheat isn't necessary, but it'll certainly help you live longer. :)
Ill check, when im dead with DD, i will choose DD again and then just use the money cheat, im really exited about fighting Bullseye :D
Ok, Decided i just eraste that game and start again with DD and use the cheat, just put me around that save point since im pretty darn sure that ill survive to Scorpion :)

Bullseye was coolly dealt with. He may be able to throw deadly projectiles with pinpoint accuracy but it didn't help him when he was skewered with a shard of ice! :D

Yes and no. It's kind of a pseudo-mod if you will. Basically it's Vision, with the Hope skin and hud, and all the names of the powers are changed ie. instead of visions beam (whatever it's called) is now called Cyclops Optic Blast and Vision's density power is now called "Skin of Collossus." It's about as far as modding as I get. I mean seriously, I tried figuring out a hex editor at 8pm and at 8:03pm my head exploded. All the menu items, inluding the hero stat and menu entry all say Hope Summers. That sort of thing. I talked to Cates and said that could count as a different character.
Although...now that we know what Hope actually does, I think I'll put in a request for a Hope mod in the request forum....
Anyway, "Hope" that clears up the confusion. (okay...bad joke)

Update: I made it to atlantis at level 32. I'm cable btw.
Got up to Krang and Byrrah with Doom, but the game glitched on me and didn't let me use Doom's Shield that means I got pwnd.
Afterwards, I took Hawkeye for a ride. If anybody wants to use Hawkeye, make sure to use your Xtreme against bosses, standing right next to them. And also, if that boss is Krang and Byrrah, make sure your Xtreme hits Krang. If he's a little above the ground, it won't kill him. And he'll pwn you. Again.
I'm sorry for not sticking with only one character, but when I get killed I get frustrated and want to try someone different.
Hope is down. defeated by Fin Fang Foom! (Really just accidentally phased myself through the floor, but I'm having a hard time admiting that to myself. she was killed by Foom!)

Nice to see some progress being made by everyone.
I'm currently playing with Ghost Rider (at Stark Tower) in the Vengeance skin since that has health and hellfire damage bonuses. GR's first power is so freakin' damaging, I'm hoping it can make up for the lack of any defensive boosts whatsoever. Fear is fine against regular enemies, but with no protection against bosses things might end quickly.
Third time's a charm! I managed to defeat Byrrah and Krang with Magneto. Compared to those 2, Attuma, Tiger Shark and the Kraken where pushovers.

No, you get to use 45,000 of the 100,000 gold coins from the cheat for anything you want. 45,000 was chosen because that is how much it costs to totally max out the defense passive for one skin.
Remember that the other 55,000 coins has to be dumped into another character.
Update: Angel is now lvl 34 and at the first save point in the Valley of Spirits.
Took my skill points from Blood Transfusion and put them into Hummingbird Essence. The dodge chance and defense boost are worth it, and the speed increase really helps with Winged Fury.
Tiger Shark and Attuma were pushovers, only took one trip into one of those "traps" to knock out both of them. Usually takes me a while even with four heroes!
I'm really fretting the throw down with Gray Gargoyle. Always have trouble with him...
:O oh well :P, i maximised the defense passive :P, also, with the money you get in game, are you not allowed to spent that out on diffrent passives? Quicksilver is now at the engines,i did defeat Bullseye, but barely, if he trowed another 3 boms at me, it could have ended worse. Im now reallly afraid of Radioactive man and Winter soldier, since RM can make himself invurnable
made it to FFF defeat FFF but freaking DUM DUM died! &@^&*A^ :P. Im not sure if i ever try again on this, its defnitly hard, i believe it took 5 hits (with pistols) for Dogan to die :P
I posted my trick for Dum Dum Dugan before: run, ignore enemies, up to the point where you find Captain America's sim mission. Then you start killing enemies, but only those that may have followed you, and those ahead.
It's easier to ignore them with a flying character, but when I used Hawkeye I still managed to get Dugan with over 50% health to Crimson Dynamo.
With Iceman I managed to kill everything without Dugan going below 2/3s HP.
Updated the table again.
I got both tickets necesary to fight Arcade and my new level is 35. Carefull with Shocker, his annoying beams will be a problem trust me, Rhino is easy, just dodge his attacks.

Now, I've switched to Captain Marvel. He just defeated Fin Fang Foom. I think I got lucky with the "special power" doombots. Didn't seem to have too many hard ones to defeat.

OH, and a question/comment: When I was in Atlantis with Silver Surfer I ran into several of those female atlanteans that can "raise the dead." Anyway, get this: I ran into one that had regereration AND where you had to use 4-4-6 to then finish her off. I was determined to do it. Well, whenever I got her down to the point where the 4-4-6 message pops up on the screen, she would continue to regenerate and I could barely get one punch in. I tried over and over but just couldn't defeat her. I have ALOT of trouble with those 4-4-6, 4-6-6, etc. combos anyway, but this one was just impossible. I'd love to hear some tips for these key combos. I don't know if there is a trick to the speed in which you punch them or what. I'd say I'm only successful about 20% of the time.
Finished Mephisto's realm mission.
Well, be ready because this is by far the most difficult mission that I've faced. Those demons that grab you are extremely annoying, if you can attack from distance do it. Also the demons that switch bodies with you are quite dangerous.
Blackheart. First destroy the boxes that revives him each time you kill him, if you have a phisical/energy damage character with long range attacks (like Cyclops) those boxes are easy to destroy, but if you have a mental, close fighter character (like Emma Frost) you can use the lances that are on the floor, those not only destroy those boxes quickly, also they deal great damage against Blackheart.
After you saved one of the X-men, you will enter to an area where you will be ambushed by a huge group of enemies. I recomend you to run to the portal that takes you to Mephisto, then double jump to the balconies (? I don't know how to call them). There you will face at least just 2 "bats" and will avoid the fight against the demons that grab you and the fire giants, which give you a huge change to survive.
Example. I have Emma on this balcony/little mount healing herself. Note that the Fire Giant stay far from me because he just can't attack.

Yup I do that as well, but when I have my 4 characters team, Playing just with Emma, it's difficult to use her crowd control powers against the minions before Mephisto because it requires a lot of energy, 4 or 5 slams and your energy bar is empty. Also you can't slam the bats and fire giants, and your energy does not regenerate faster.
I always like to keep some energy so I can use the healing boost or the diamond form for my defense in case that my health is too low, that's why I survived until this point my friend ;)
This tourney has been fun so far. When I used Human Torch, I could be alot more aggressive, which is my preferred style. Using Silver Surfer, there was quite a bit of "attack and run" maneuvers, which is slower -- but ended up getting me considerably farther. Captain Marvel has gotten me back to the aggressive approach (with just a few runs to escape a deadly situation). His "invisibility" power is very helpful and it's something I've never used in the past but find it necessary in this solo approach. Also, that 4-4-6 combo that is often required is easier to accomplish when Captain Marvel is invisible because the victim sometimes doesn't punch back. I'm currently in Mandarin's palace.

One cool thing about this tournament is that I'm solidifying exactly which characters would form my all-time favorite team of 4. Some of the ones that I've toyed with and have ruled out are Captain America, Moon Knight, Northstar and Quicksilver, although I still like all of them. My top three definitely are Human Torch, Silver Surfer, and Captain Marvel. I haven't tried Angel yet since LegionODoom was using him, but I think he'd round out my top 4.

Still in Mandarin's Palace, but I got past Gray Gargoyle and Ultimo 2. GG was much easier this time around, because I took the advice someone posted here earlier about hit-and-run tactics with him. I believe I saved right before going to face the 10-Ringed One himself. Haven't had much time to play over the past few days, just a little bit here and there.
I originally picked Angel because of his Blood Transfusion healing power. But as I've gone further and further, the Hummingbird Essence is a much better boost to use on a more consistent basis. Big boost to defense and a nice dodge chance, plus the increased speed really helps you lay into the mobs.
Based on Whiteking's progress in Mephisto's Realm, I'm really dreading that level. Angel doesn't have any good long-distance powers.

Dude, he's HARD! I did OK at first, doing the dodge roll to avoid the freeze beams. But once he tags you with one, he gets another one or two high-damage licks in and all of a sudden you're down to 1/4 health!
So Angel is now available, and I won't be starting over for the tournament. Playing solo has actually been fun and more challenging than I thought. I'm going to continue with the game using Angel only, just to see if I can get through it. I just don't have enough free time to spend playing the game to conceivable win this thing (which is a lost cause, since Whiteking is KILLING it!!).

Same thing happened there with Silver Surfer. Captain Marvel made it through partly because he could turn invisible and partly because he didn't have to stand there and charge up to get a decent amount of damage done on Mandarin. I may try Angel (but hopefully I won't have to!) Captain Marvel is just starting out in Mephisto's Realm.

Everyone's sad because the death of Nightcrawler, yup I saved Jean ^^, I realized that it's easier and (perhaps) more realistic to bring Nightcrawler back sooner than Jean, so I decided to keep her alive lol xD

Update for me (last one for awhile since I won't be at my home computer to get to play):
Fox, Captain Marvel, Level 43 (I've played 3 missions and hung around quite awhile in Mephisto's Realm with those reincarnating Demon Leapers -- hoping that it helps!), Just got to Valhalla.
My closest call so far was with Krang and Byrrah. I'm not sure which one it was, but he kept hitting me when I became visible and I couldn't escape. Luckily a burst of health orbs saved me when I think I couldn't have taken any more hits.

I haven't had much time to play this week. Ghost Rider got very boring, so even though he's not dead, I'm moving back to Mr. Fantastic for a while. Always loved playing with Stretcho, so here's hoping Round II works out better than the first one now that I have some experience running the game like this.
Anybody wants to play GR, feel free. I just got sick of "charge-BLAST" "charge-BLAST" "charge-BLAST" over and over ;)

Had a good, long session with Reed, who, I'm happy to say, is faring much better this time.
Level 32, Temple of Negrete.
I'm much better prepared with Reed this time. Though the primary powers I'm using are his Elastic Crush (for ranged attacks) and Rubberband Recoil for bosses and tough baddies, I've made lots of use of one-point wonders--the propeller arms are great for popping enemies up and over railings, and only a single point is needed in that for that effect. I only have one point in his boost as well, since only the duration improves and I don't mind recasting it when I need to. I have also used Pinball for some fast travel and a speedy run through the Dum Dum Dugan Gauntlet. He was barely damaged by the time I got to the save point.
If I can find a way to beat Krang and Byrrah, Reed will surpass the Hulk as my Character Who Has Lived The Longest.
BTW -- Holy Crap, a dual-sword wielding Atlantean Defender with Enhanced Damage can really do a number on your health meter!
As Jeanfan123 can't play MUA for now I think I'll book Jean (that is if it is within the rules and if Jeanfan doesn't mind). If its ok with him and the rules then I'll use the booster that I co-created with Whiteking for her.
Finished the game (outside of the competition) with 4 characters, so I'm in again. I'm using Moon Knight now, and I just beat Crimson Dynamo (lvl 30). I gave a quick look at the topic and it seems he was still free, if not let me know.
Moon Knight seems like a solid character: he's one of the best boss killers in the game (thanks to Nunchucks and Lunar Eclipse), has got some decent support powers (Boomerang and Staff Slam work great against regular enemies), a boost that enhances his attack (the new one made by iammingy) and another that raises his ability to dodge attacks. Finally, his Classic costume gives him Regeneration (which will help mainly against tough enemies, against whom I'll just block until my health is full in case of extreme danger) and a boost to his attack speed.
The only thing missing is an ability to move faster, but the new "glide" ability helps a bit.

Just defeated Fin Fang Foom. My tk shield protected me from all of Bullseye's projectiles and even from Radioactive Man and Winter Soldier.
I am about to free the gods in Asgard, I am still playing as Moonstone (level 43). I've also played 3 of the side missions. I've had a few close calls, especially in Mephisto's realm, but her phasing ability has really saved my butt.

storm305 I have a question ^^, how were you able to reach level 43 so soon?, I mean i'm near to the same point than you (rescue the asgard gods) and I've played 3 sides missions too (included Emma's own mission) and I'm still at level 38...
I got to level 43 by taking advantage of all the characters that you kill and keep re spawning, like in mephistos realm: the slow guys right before you save jean or nightcrawler. As well as in the side missions I keep killing the characters till about 3 mins left and then I work on the boss. The little orbs add up after awhile. ( I only played each mission once.) Moonstones phasing ability has been whats helped me out a lot. I phase out, walk into a wall and just keep hitting till they die. They cant reach me nor touch me. :)
Mmmm interesting... I wont forget that next time that I play Mephisto's realm ^^
Just a little advise, phasing is a dangerous power, be carefull, since you can pass through the floor and die, that's why I removed that power on my personal version of Moonstone u_u
I can't even count how many times that happened^^ to me.

I have 2 options.
a) Use another hero and count like if I was on those points where you need 2 heroes to finish your mission.
b) Stay with Em and do not finish this mission :(
I say option a) I'm not the only one who is using a character that can't fly, so this is important to the other heroes ^^
Hurry! I just need to know so I can continue :D
My vote goes for a), since the reward for that mission is significant (free level up).

EDIT: Emma Frost, level 42, Nifelheim.
I just incresed her level to 40 before the free level up from Heimdall, and then another free level up on the "Volla's ring" mission ^^
Kurse is the "easy" mini boss here since he doesn't have any resistance, so kill him first. The other guy Ulik resist everything except mental lol, just a few close shots with Emma's mental spheres and he was out, still both monsters deals a lot of damage, especially Ulik since he has a knockback and trip attack that makes almost imposible to get close.
Sorry I missed the exchange about the horn problem . . . You made the right call.
The solo restriction is only for combat, so as long as your second character wasn't killing stuff, you're OK.

I just arrived at Attilan, Moonstone level 47 (4 side missions done).
I'm going to use a 4 characters team against Loki, not that I can't beat him with just one lol (I already did it) but I forgot that after that fight, when you retrieve the swords for the Armor, in order to obtain one of them, you need your 3 teammates... so I don't think that it's going to be a teamwork anyway, since my 3 teammates are always killed by Loki and it ends as a one vs one fight :P
Tested it a while back, they give you the rest of the members in the form of viking warriors. Loki can be soloed.

I thought the same thing when I got to Loki (my 3 team mates always also die lol) and about the 4 swords mission and was surprised that the game filled them in with viking warriors. I thought I was going to be stuck or had to select other characters.
Reed has beaten Krang and Byrrah and is headed to the Atlantean Throne. Had a very, very close call in the Temple of Negrete against one of those "press 4-6-4" Atlantean Champions or whatever. I was pretty much down to one hit, and trying to wear her down with my leap attack instead of doing the combo (Reed's awesome with the popup combo, but I have a hard time with the stun combo). I got the hit in before she did, thankfully.

I'm in Asgard, level 37
So, I started playing with Moon Knight. I love him. Between Staff Slam and his Classic costume's regeneration and defense bonuses, the only times when I've been close to dying is when I'm extremely careless. Nunchucks consumes a lot of energy, but it's better suited to defeat bosses.
My current strategy is Staff Slam and melee enemies while they're on the floor, charging the Xtreme while at it. Which, btw, makes wonders in closed spaces. You know Tiger Shark and Attuma? Activated the whirlwind things, drew them to one of those tiny holes, and they were finished practically before Lunar Eclipse's animation ended.
Oh yeah, I'm level 32, Valley of the Spirits.

Lol, pretty difficult stage, the mini-bosses are so hard when you play alone, Starbolt and Hussar can be a real pain. Also Deathbird just refused to grab me, so I had to beat her only with bolts and the other projectiles and at the same time trying to protect myself against her attacks (that causes a lot of damage)... loooong fight...
Oh and I was able to save Lilandra at the last seconds (Missed Invisible Woman here, her attacks are by far the most usefull when you have to save the empress)

Spent a lot of time on it last night, now in Shi'ar, level 39.
I didn't have enough time to save Lilandra unfortunately, but I was still able to pass the level. Deathbird was a hard boss, she never picked me up to do the combo moves, so I had to keep hitting her from the ground, took me awhile to defeat her.
Just finished saving Nick Fury at Stark Tower (Moonstone level 51).
(I noticed that if you are flying with moonstone phased out and fly outside the game and keep phasing out, it breaks something outside the game (like a box or barrel) each time u phase and it releases orbs or money.)
Finished the Skrull World mission with all the side missions (saving the skrull planet, the shields from galactus) as well ^^
I have to admit that this mission was a little bit easier than the Shiar, still I had some troubles with.

That's right. I've always used Deadpool's grenade power. One hit can destroy the computer. I'm not sure if Nowhere Man's upgrade for Deadpool may prevent that. Angel and Rockslide also have great powers to destroy the computer.
Invisible Woman and her kinetic bolts are always my first choice.

I've never tried that. Thanks for telling. Most of the reason I keep Deadpool on my team is so I can have a way to destroy the computer and save Lilandra but now I can remove him.

Yup, level her enough and use her bolts at their highest rank that you can, the first time you play MUA it take a while (because the energy factor), so I recomend to have another character that deal great physical damage (for example Rogue) to help her, but you can do it with Sue ^^

That made using Silver Surfer hard and Captain Marvel even harder, but it can still be done -- it just takes longer.
EDIT:
I just tried playing Captain Marvel's simulator mission for the first time and found that he ended up battling -- himself! The "evil" Captain Marvel was killed in one blow but the mission won't end. Does anyone know what is going on?

I took me a lot to beat him, mostly because I couldn't touch him in order to steal his powers, more or less, I tried 10 times (and 2 level ups!) before I could fight him.
I had several close calls. First against those Doomsman (?), and their telekinesis, second against the Doombots, and finally, I almost died (at least) 3 times against Doom and his Dark F4.
Again, the diamond form for my defense and the "Heart Of Mephisto" to recover health quickly did the trick.

Congratulations, whiteking! I think I will still try to finish the game. I'm either level 51 or 52, but I've already spent over 18:00 and haven't been in Attilan very long. I've only done four missions. I couldn't complete Captain Marvel's mission -- there's a major problem with it. So, I just quit the game and restarted from my last save.

there is a mod of him and it allows you to save both of them because magneto says he can manipulate, control metal. something like that so he can save both of them

I would like to know if the rules of this tournament will allow that (save both with Magneto).
I mean I have Magneto on my roster, and I always save both, but this time I decided to choose one between both, because I thought that it was not allowed to change my character in order to do it since that's not a part of the story. But maybe it's like Heimdal's horn mission where I had to switch to a flying character to get the horn.
So, it's allowed to add Magneto to your team in order to save both?
I personally, say no, mostly because it's not a part of the original story and also because probably not everyone has him on their roster. What do you think people???

i believe you still get the same exp, no matter if you save one or both, but it only seemed like a good option for the ones who cant decide, i personally say yes, because when you realesed both you just go swap him out, the developers did do that for a reason, so i cant really see how it isnt part of the orignal story

And I personally say yes as well so those who want both can save both. It doesn't change experience or anything like that so it shouldn't be a problem. And you can just switch Magneto out when you are done.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the option to save both Nightcrawler and Jean Grey was a "plus" by Dark Mark, and it was not included on the original story line. Otherwise we should have a special ending by Uatu saying that you saved both Xmen...

Yes that was dark_mark's doing, it was never part of any version of MUA1
I think it's okay if someone wants to use Magneto to save both Jean Grey and Nightcrawler by switching out to Magneto.

I finally finished the game with Captain Marvel. He made it to level 56. The time was 23:31. His invisibility/health regeneration power was the key to his success. He didn't have to "hit and run" like the other characters I tried first. He generally could turn invisible and dish out the damage while his health was regenerating. Thanks for the idea of this tournament. It was fun.

I decided to start with no money cheat and when i reached the start of atlantis(killed a couple of them) BUT THEN my mom asked me a question a bout a show, i started responding and next thin ya now I HAD AN ATLANTIAN SLICYng MY BACK INTO SHREDS! I went in panic and before i can push a button he was already dead!

Hi I don't know if I should post this here but I just finished the game on easy mode (I wanted to finish it fast) so I could unlock hard mode but It doesn't say completed and it didn't give me hard mode. I beat doom and it gave me my little thing about how it was good I save this or that person, and I skipped all of that and after skipping everything I get back to doom's throne room where I beat him. But I can't acess hard mode can someone help me?

How would I defeat doom again with this saved game? I really don't wanna have to beat it again lol after spending 2 days (in between school stuff) playing trying to get hard mode so I could get in on this challenge.... Oh well if I have to beat it again then I'll do it at a slower pace. I wanted to started trying to mod, that's why I pushed through the game as fast as I could this time, that way I could start on hard whenever I wanted to. But if you know how to beat doom again using the same save that would be awesome. I also tried looking for valkyrie''s sword because that's the only thing I didn't get and I thought it would replay my acomplishments but I had a hard time remembering which asgard mission it was located in.
Just google marvel ultimate alliance saves and download the first one, it automaticly unlocks hard mode

I looked at the cheats to make sure I wasn't mistaken and it said to unlock hard mode beat the game on easy or normal it may have been wrong though. But it's all good, an AWESOME someone gave me a copy of their settings file which had hard mode so now I have hard mode thanks to him.
