This fall, Spider-Man takes a crash course in teamwork with the latest Spider-Man video game, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe. Hitting Xbox 360, PS2, Wii, DS, PSP and PC, Friend or Foe adds a fresh twist to Spider-Man's gaming exploits by giving the Web-Head a sidekick--and his choice of partners may surprise you.

Spidey, Green Goblin and a big robot (http://www.marvel.com/i/content/st/26new_storyimage4079174_full.jpg)

Some problems are just too big for one hero to handle and in Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, the Wall-Crawler must enlist the help of several trusted allies--and even a cadre of his deadliest enemies--to embark on an epic adventure, complete a worldwide quest and defeat an unimaginably evil villain. Heroes providing support for Spider-Man include Iron Fist and Blade, with more to be announced before the game's Fall '07 release. The real jaw-dropper, though, stems from the list of villains who must stand shoulder to shoulder with Spidey in order to save the world.

Iron Fist attacks (http://www.marvel.com/i/content/st/26new_storyimage4079190_full.jpg)

Culled from the supervillains featured in the Spider-Man film trilogy, the list includes Green Goblin, Venom, Doctor Octopus and Sandman. But these bastions of evil won't just roll over and fight for good. As Spider-Man, you'll have to beat some sense into the creeps and show 'em the light before they join the side of the angels.

* The Marvel official site news editor made a mistake in the link here, but I corrected it for you guys! :)

Having a slew of sidekicks is awesome on its own and the inclusion of co-op gameplay only sweetens the pot. Friends can join the game at any time to take control of Spider-Man's sidekick. And while playing through the game, you'll unlock battle arenas that open up plenty of brawltastic PVP possibilities between your heroes and villains.

Spider-man and Doc Ock (http://www.marvel.com/i/content/st/26new_storyimage4079224_full.jpg)

Look for every character--from Spidey to Venom to Iron Fist--to have their own uniques moves, attributes and powers, ensuring all your team-up combinations have their own flair. You'll also be able to switch characters as needed to overcome all challenges. And if you're good enough, tough enough and dedicated enough, you'll gain control of Spidey's black costume, opening up a host of new powers and abilities.

Sandman and Spider-man attack (http://www.marvel.com/i/content/st/26new_storyimage4079234_full.jpg)

And if all that weren't enough, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe features numerous secret areas, hidden items, special tokens, unlockables, collectibles, new powers and mini-games that ensure you'll keep coming back again and again.

We'll have more details here at Marvel.com as we get closer to the game's Fall release. For now, enjoy the game's premiere trailer--unveiled at E3 '07, three screenshots available exclusively at Marvel.com and few extra images!

I'm also happy Iron Fist gets some time in a game, as well as Blade. But I don't like when certain villains are playable, especially Green Goblin, but I'll wait until I know the story before making judgements.

On a semi-related note, I read that Jaime Kennedy was the host of Activision's presentation in the E3. Didn't anybody tell them he's not funny?

All teh nex-jen n00bz hate this game because it's not built with next-gen graphics.  Well, Activision could just put ridiculous amounts of bloom in and people would be like "Wow!  Look at those graphics!"  Personally I think it looks like a lot of crazy coop fun.  Graphics are very much secondary to me.

the only thing that bothers m at all is that everything looke extremely cartoonish...but it still looks awesome...but why is lizard considered a hero?
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on September 08, 2007, 09:30AM
Isn't New Goblin considered a villain also? I think I will get this game for the PC when it comes out.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: DJay Saint on September 08, 2007, 10:03AM
Dr. Connors isn't evil at all.  Only when he transforms into his lizard form is he an opponent, but he doesn't hurt people with the same intentions the way other villains do.

That hero list looks pretty awesome.  The only people missing from the game before I would call the game complete is Shocker, Captain America, Mysterio, Red Skull, Chameleon, and Morbius.  Others I would like to see are: Kingpin, Daredevil, Spot, Punisher, Carnage, Hobgoblin, and Vulture.

I have no idea why Shocker and Mysterio are missing, but those are no brainers.  Blade's main appearance came about the time Morbius turned into a vampire, so it wouldn't make sense to have Blade without Morbius.  Other cameos from Cap, Daredevil, and Punisher would be cool as hell.  This game looks promising so far.  We haven't had a good Spider-Man game yet (Ultimate Spider-Man was alright, but it was WAY too short, and I'm not a big fan of the ultimate universe), so this will hopefully fix that.

<3 teh Black Cat.

Harry teamed up with Peter in the 2nd half of Spider-man 3. So, he isn't a villain anymore.

Truth is, I'm getting tired of film references in Marvel games.  I wish they would just stick to classic Marvel, and give the movies a rest.  Why?  Most of them sucked beyond belief, or just didn't hold a candle to the real Marvel stories.  Although the Spider-Man films were pretty good, I'd rather see the "real" Spider-Man, not Toby "I turned into a big prick once I became famous" Maguire.  That's just me though.

Its not only you,and why does Blade seem to be able to take up more well known hero or villain spots I don't understand, good note is the style and its almost here I haven't been this happy about a release since MUA itself.

Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: Teancum on September 11, 2007, 07:47PM
Personally I love that they used movie-esque heroes in a non-movie game.  The only other non-movie game they've ever done that with AFAIK is X2: Wolverine's Revenge, which had Wolvie's X-Men 2 costume.

It doesn't look phenomenal, but I don't think it's meant to.  This is one of those games that probably has less of a budget; it's just a fun-to-play-through game as far as I see.  But still it looks like a lot of fun for a few months.

I think they should have called this Spider-Man Team-Up or even Spider-Man Ultimate Alliance! :) Seriously though do we know if we have to always have Spidey on the team or can you play with: for example New Goblin and Green Goblin together?

I am having trouble getting the demo to run on my computer. The application d3dx9_33.dll is not found for me to play the demo. I just may wait for it to come out to play it. I have some questions about the demo: How is the gameplay? Do you level like MUA or is it different? How are the controls?

I got that too, so I downloaded and installed the latest version of DirectX (9.c), and restarted and it worked.
I found it OK but the controls are a bit simplistic for my taste (only one attack button), but it was moderately enjoyable, and I played all the way through the demo.
I think younger players would enjoy it a fair bit.

I didn't even realize it was out already...  What was the release date?  I'll have to pick it up, provided a store around here carries the PC version (those console tards always get taken care of first, so naturally the PC, though infinitely superior, always gets the shaft).

have anyone started playing this game? does the characters have extreme power? seems like they have, cos the hud have this yellow bar which will filled up overtime...
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 06, 2007, 10:02PM
They have a team extreme power but it can only be used if you have collected a blue orb (only one at a time) and this attack will take care of everything on the screen except for the level bosses. Also the yellow meter is a combo meter that will go as far as level 4 and that is when you get more token orbs from enemies. There is really no leveling in the game but you can upgrade the characters with the token orbs that you get. This game is fun and the only boss that you can unlock easy by defeating him is Venom all the others are some what difficult. It took my brother and I several tries to defeat Rhino. I wont spoil any more than that. Also yes Iammingy by the code from the demo. The release date was on the 3rd of Oct.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: phoenixforce on October 06, 2007, 11:07PM
how do you activate the team extreme?
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 07, 2007, 10:13AM
You press up on the directional pad on the X Box 360 controller but only if you have gotten a blue orb. All the characters have different extreme except for Green Goblin and New Goblin they are the same. The extremes are cool but the power ups that you get through out the game are shared between you and the other player unless you are going solo. Another cool thing about this game is that you never really die you keep coming back but it costs you about 4-10 tokens when you return each time. I feel the game is really well done but when you unlock Spider-Man's Black suit some times it is hard to see him in the dark areas of the game like in Act 4.

Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 07, 2007, 05:35PM
I am a little disappointed that you can not unlock the main baddie after you defeat him. If anyone pre-ordered the game from EB Games or Gamestop you got a code to unlock Venom early plus the code to unlock New Goblin from the demo. So you get two free codes for the game. Also to access the extra powers for the sidekicks you need to hold the X button for one and hold the B button for the other (After you unlock it by collecting 500 tokens). Iammingy enjoy the game also you can play with Iron Fist but not at the beginning you unlock him towards the end of Act 2. The beginning Friends that you can play with are Silver Sable, Prowler and New Goblin(If you unlock him).

How long is this game?  Not just playing time wise, but as far as the number of levels, amount of stuff to do, and overall depth of play.  I hate shelling out $40-$50 for a game that I finish in just a couple of hours with little replay value due to lack of depth of play.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 07, 2007, 08:17PM
There are five acts and each act has four levels. It took my brother and I a good day to play it. There are many places to explore. There are DNA Helixes that you need to find to unlock artwork and game tips and they also have a Vs. mode for two players only and when you go through each level you have a chance to unlock arenas for the Vs. mode to unlock these arenas you need to find a Blue keycard. It is well worth the money and you can also go back and replay levels to get tokens and to get the collectables that you missed the first time. There is alot of replay value, especially to upgrade sidekicks and to upgrade spidy's web moves and damage. Spidey with his Black Suit makes him stronger and he does not take damage as easily either. Some of the levels of some of the Acts are really long and sometimes you wonder if you will ever finish the level. You will most surely not find everything your first play through because the action is so much that you almost forget to look for things. :)

Well, you might want to check reviews around the internet. I like Gamespot's, personally. You can find player reviews in gamefaqs.com, too.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: iammingy on October 08, 2007, 12:10PM
It's not gonna be as long as MUA. It should be easier to finish the game, too. I think the demo is a pretty good sneak peek at what game looks like.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 08, 2007, 12:33PM
It is worth the $50. It is easier than MUA in a sense that you do not have so many powers to deal with but Spidey does have many web moves to fight with. The gameplay is much like the demo except more indepth. I find it very fun and entertaining and I have unlocked everything and all achievements for the 360 which are a total of 12. I do hope that they make DLC for this game because it does deserve it. You dont have to micro manage powers in this game like in MUA.

nice, I just checked out the reviews and I'm probably gonna get it. And yea i hope they make DLC for it. I'm surprised they only have 12 acheivements for it, they must give u like 50 or 75 gamer points right? I hope it's not one of those games that u can finish i n like a day or two though, i want it to be a little long, and challenging
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 08, 2007, 12:58PM
There is a total of 1000 gamer points for the game. Also you may be able to pass it in one day it took more than 12 hours for my brother and I to finish it but you will need to return to other levels to get what u missed and to upgrade your characters and that maybe another day or two depending on how busy you are. It is as challenging as you make it.

Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 08, 2007, 02:57PM
There is only one difficulty level AFAIK and yes we had to go back to get things because not everything is noticable the first time thru because of all of the action going on.

The one for Venom and New Goblin are correct but not sure about the one for Sandman or the one for the upgrade points. I have not used those ones.

Please don't ever mention that again.  The last thing we need is the modding community shot down because members are openly discussing sharing full retail software via P2P sites for free.  Not only is that highly stupid, it's also highly illegal.  Just go to e-bay and buy it if it's not available in your area.

I just got the game for PSP yesterday and its pretty fun. I already unlocked Doc. Octopus, Green Goblin. I wish they would have made it a little harder though. It's sweet that on the PSP you get an exclusive level and 2 exclusive characters, Carnage and Electro. If anyone knows how to unlock either of them can u tell me. I think you unlock Carnage by beating the game on co-op mode but none of my friends have it.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 14, 2007, 04:46PM
What I understood is that when you pass that exclusive level you unlock Electro and Carnage is unlocked when you do beat the game in co-op.

hey, does neone know the cheatcode to unlock carnage, bc no one I know has this game for me to play co-op with, and my system is being weird so I can't hook my PSP up to my internet. I appreciate any help.

One more thing can u play as Symbiote Spiderman in the PSP because you can't walk around the helicarrier on the PSP game, to my knowledge. I was jw that bc I like that suit and I like playing as Spiderman in that suit.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Post by: msmarvel2007 on October 16, 2007, 12:09AM
phoenixforce, If you have the manual it should tell you but if not than I am guessing it is the directional up key for the keyboard. Also PackerFan if the PSP version is close to the X-Box 360 than you dont unlock Black Suit until act five and then officially unlocked at the end of the game, if there is no helicarrier to walk around in then I am sure that they will have a way to chage suits like they do to change side kicks and if there is any codes for Carnage you would find them on Gamefaqs but I doubt it.

I read that Silver Sable is not available on the PS2 version. That is coming from the Strategy Guide and not the Internet. Also I understand that if you dont unlock New Goblin with the code from the demo that you unlock him after you beat the main baddie at the end of the game.

Here's a direct link to Activision's Tech Support for Spidey.  Click Me (https://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/activision.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=tyY2obTi&p_lva=&p_li=&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_page=1&p_cv=&p_pv=2.606&p_prods=1%2C606&p_cats=&p_hidden_prods=&prod_lvl1=1&prod_lvl2=606&p_search_text=&srch_btn_submit=%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0Search%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0&p_new_search=1&p_search_type=answers.search_nl)  At the top of that list there's a tab called "Ask A Question" where you can ask for tech support.  Be clear can calm when you type, as they usually ignore posts that aren't 'adult' (for lack of a better word).  Also, be sure to post your PC specs and make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your graphics card.

hey guys i have the game for ps2 and its super mega awsome, the chars are fantastic new goblin is my second favorite player, but there are 3 things that bother me:the fact that the game is a little short(stil love it),there is the thing that i dont see fair-venom shouwd do more damage then black spidey because he weard the symbiote for a realy long time and spidey for short and theres the last strange thing-i used the ulock code for new goblin,it worked but i cant unlock silver sable beacuse there isnt more char space and i think its n. goblin's fault

Silver Sable is not in the PS 2 version. It says so in the Strategy Guide. Silver Sable is only in the Wii, X-Box 360, PC and PSP (Not sure about PSP that it what I heard from others and what the website says)

There aren't any cheat codes for him AFAIK. There are cheat codes for other characters for the PC and others, but they don't even work on the PSP.

What does Carnage look like in the PSP version? I can't find any screenshots or any info about his moves or anything.

EDIT: There is a save that unlocked Carnage for purchase on the PSP version. You probably have seen it...

iammingy, there is a screen shot of Electro on the PSP website for Friend or Foe. There is screen shots of Rhino, Green Goblin, Doc Ock and Black Cat also. I am also surprised they did not include any for Carnage but I would guess he would have the same powers as Venom like Green Goblin and New Goblin do. Here is the link:
