Title: Stop the Stop Online Piracy Act!
Post by: Quentin Hex on January 17, 2012, 05:34PM
So I hope this isn't too political but I'm hoping everyone here will support our community and join in helping to block the Stop Online Piracy Act. While not all of us are American citizens, this act could potentially effect the integrity of not only our community here but also the entire internet. If some random US Judge decides that our website breaks copyright laws (which is entirely possible), we could all be in big trouble. Learn more about the issue and what you can do to help at americancensorship.org (http://americancensorship.org/). Reddit, Wikipdeia, Google and many more websites are also against this so it's not just some crazy anarchist agenda like some people would like you to think ;).

Not an American citizen so I can't do anything about this, but I sincerely hope SOPA and PIPA both fail.

Well America has already used economical pressure to make Spain apply stricter pirating laws, so be weary of similar assaults on freedom in your own countries. In fact a British college student was recently extradited to the United States to be punished making a website that broke US copyright law. Which sets up a terrifying precedent for extraditing citizens for local crimes not just US/UK but worldwide.

I hope they fail in their attempt to censor the internet. It's called freedom of speech, etc. They are going to take away our rights as human beings if they do this. It's not right.

Give me citizenship, a cool little house, some money to work with and I'll help too. I would do it for free, but sadly, there's not much to do from here

Plus it's stupid they'll never be able to stop piracy. Plus websites like YouTube,Facebook and Twitter would all be censored if not shut down. This basically takes away free will *sigh* what is America coming too? :(

The US is becoming a fascist state under the guise of a democracy.

Well, not only the US. I wouldn't be surprised if corruption and oppression would appear in more countries in the next few years. My country, for example, goes towards oppression and if it goes like this, people will riot against our "fine" politicians. Isn't it said, how power corrupts people's mind and makes them crave more for it?

Apparently the majority of European governments have already secretly signed this through.
