Title: Polaris Mod
Post by: matt710 on July 25, 2007, 06:13PM
I will be doing a Polaris mod and she will be put here.  Her base will be on nodoubt's npc, but I will add more moves and change the skeleton.  The one thing I want to ask is about growth and changing size.  One of her latent powers is that she can channel negative emotion and grow in size and strength.  I want to try to do it as a unique boost.  I know someone did it in MUA but is it even possible in XML2?  Did apocolypse have it?  I really can't remember cause I haven't really played much and did more modding and skinning.

One Skeleton Version: http://www.mediafire.com/?tjnomzidwyn (http://www.mediafire.com/?tjnomzidwyn)
Two Skeleton Version: http://www.mediafire.com/?1se1ddx93dx (http://www.mediafire.com/?1se1ddx93dx)

ADMIN NOTE: the 1 skeleton version is much more stable than the 2 skeleton version. It's recommended that you use the 1 skeleton version.

Cant wait for this mod.

i think Juggernaut grows in size for one of his xtremes.  You may be able to steal the code from that.

Ok so far Polaris is very different than her father.  Fist of Nodoubt made her levitation look totally different.  Also besides the levitation she only takes one radial attack, one boost, and one passive from him.  Everything else is completely different from magneto.  Since she has power over the electro, magnetic, and gravitational fields I decided to explore those.  She also gets an xtreme boost that reawakens her latent power and will increase her in size slightly (I want it to look like she is close to 7 ft (not too towering), add attack power and add invulnerability.  I also want to do a shield that will prevent projectiles 100%, which I think is possible if I add the scope line projectile.  She has magnetic healing (which may be dropped I kind of thought about people using magnets and magnetism to heal themselves as an original idea, but it isn't on her real power list)  So anyway her talent file is set up and needs just some tweaking.  Next up her powerstyle.

The DLC Hulk from MUA has a boost where the Hulk actually grows in size and stays at that size for the duration of the boost.

Yeah I think the shild should work.  Invisible woman's was too different from XML2 that it probably won't work.  But looking at the dodge passive and magneto's shield we can see similarities.

Dodge Passive from Magneto's Talent file:

         powerup {
         life = -1 ;
            affecter {
            attribute = def_dodge ;
            level = %mag_mag_def_pct ;
            scope_attack = projectile ;
            }

Dodge powerup in Magneto's shield:

      trigger {
      life = %mag_pol_shield_lif ;
      name = powerup ;
      powerusage = %mag_pol_shield_pwr ;
      time = 0.5 ;
         special_fx {
         effect = char/magnet/p1_aura ;
         }

         affecter {
         attribute = def_dodge ;
         level = %mag_pol_shield_pct ;
         }

What I did for Polaris:

      trigger {
      life = %pol_pshield_lif ;
      name = powerup ;
      powerusage = %pol_pshield_pwr ;
      time = 0.5 ;
         special_fx {
         effect = char/magnet/p1_aura ;
         }

         affecter {
         attribute = def_dodge ;
         level = %pol_pshield_pct ;
         scope_attack = projectile ;
         }

___________________________________________

In theory it should work cause passives in the talent files are very similar if not virtually the same as powerstyle boosts.  Lets cross our fingers that it works!!!   :)

the shield worked, I just have to apply to all.  Also all but one move works.  I also want to speed up her levitation end animation and have to play with the growth to make her not be a giant.  But she is in testing now, so screen shots are coming soon.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: matt710 on July 29, 2007, 10:47PM
She is coming along nicely.  Just want to fix 2 things and she just needs icons and more skins.

1) Fix Projectile Shield so that it looks different from polarity shield.  (Recolored storm's wind armor)

2) Fix levitation lift.  I made it less cause she isn't supposed to have as much lift as magneto in the comics, but she can't even lift a lot of enemies.  So she will have to match him.

Basically I added a lot to the NPC and changed the skeleton.  I slightly altered levitation to have a little more magnetic quality, but only added to the existing effects.  The projectile was completely redone to a beam.  I wanted it to freeze but it wouldn't freeze, then I redid it like Goblin Queen's paralysis and it didn't look good.  So it is now a beam with a similar, but not the same charge and the same hit effect.  Metal debris knockout (her xtreme) wasn't really changed, it just looks different cause she goes to the air to do it.  The blast power didn't change besides animation.  For her 2nd xtreme I also fixed the growth to make her increase by only 18%, making her taller than her teammates but not a giant.  The move now increases attack by 75%, increases height by 18%, makes her invulnerable, and reduces EP consumption (by 25% - 75% depending on her skill level).  She also gets ironman's gravity beam, magneto's radial pull attack, and chain lightning (with magnetic charge).  For boosts she gets magneto's shield (slightly weakend and apply to all), a new projectile shield (100% projectile protection for team), and magnetic healing.  She also gets a few boosts.  She will be released real soon.  First with one skin then with others added later.

Ok I am doing new polaris skins.  One I am doing right now is this one (almost done):

(http://images3.wikia.com/marveldatabase/images/b/b3/Polaris_60.jpg)

I did this one, just have to fine tune it:

(http://images1.wikia.com/marveldatabase/images/8/87/Polaris_%28Mutant_X%29_001.jpg)

I plan on doing these:

(http://images1.wikia.com/marveldatabase/images/5/5d/Polaris_%28X-Factor%29_011.jpg)

(http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/polaris-bigcostume5.jpg)

I am converting versions of these (BliZZ converted them for MUA) I just want to fix their faces and minor details to look as close to these:

(http://www.projectpolaris.com/images/Aoa.jpg)

(http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/polaris-bigcostume1.jpg)  (I may redo this one cause the headdress on the version I saw isn't what her original was)

Possibilities (I will do 2):

(http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/polaris-bigcostume2.jpg)  (can't do the spike things but could do the costume itself)

(http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/polaris-bigcostume7.jpg)

(http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/polaris-bigcostume6.jpg)

(http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/polaris-ex.jpg) (easy since I have the End Madyline)

(http://images2.wikia.com/marveldatabase/images/1/11/Polaris_013.jpg) (enchantress possibilities)

Yeah I have to see if I can find her offsets for the ps2 skin for that one first.  I am having problems with her mutant X one.  I know I input it into a skin file but both appear as her modern one.  It is weird.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod

The weirdest thing is happening with this skin.  If I have her modern skin in my herostats it replaces this one.  If not is will show up fine.  Did that ever happen to anybody else?

Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: nodoubt_jr on August 03, 2007, 10:59AM
are they based off the same model?  i started getting this problem alot, were skins would just be the same, what i did was change some stuff in the skins with a hex editor.

for example if you have two based off of 0101.igb, then inside they all reference the same pic, 0101-1.png.  So the game start looking inside and just loading this same pic, so even if you change custome and the new one is based off the same igb it will keep loading the former 0101-1.png.  Hopefully you get it, cause i cant really explain it that well.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: matt710 on August 03, 2007, 06:10PM
Thanks.  So you are saying I have to change the file name right ex 10304-1.png?  I am surpised cause I used this skin for all of Goblin Queens and they worked.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: nodoubt_jr on August 03, 2007, 06:22PM
yeah all the .png inside the igb.  ive only had this problem with a few skins, Jean's Jim Lee custome (the non ps2 one) and Psylockes AOA outfit, and Bishop's custome and Cables only custome, and a couple of others that suddenly changed back to the old igb.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: matt710 on August 03, 2007, 06:31PM
No actually it never changed back to the old one.  I used 2 separate copies of 10101.igb to do it.  It 10304 (mutant x) just changes into 10305 (modern), which are both customs.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: nodoubt_jr on August 03, 2007, 06:46PM
ok, let me know if that fixes the problem
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: matt710 on August 05, 2007, 09:12AM
Ok I just tried and yes it fixed the problem.  I changed all 10101 to 10304.  I didn't change 101-black_queen because it seemed to be more structural rather than the skin itself.  Thanks for the help.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: nodoubt_jr on August 05, 2007, 12:13PM
yeah i just change the .png number, not the other stuff.  thats the same problem with the conflicting portrait pictures, the game loads the same pic for those using the same .png number.

I have a new question. I have the skins showing up in the game, but there are no powers associated with them. Her powerset only shows up when I have the original costume selected. How do I fix this so they work for all?
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: shafcrawler on May 24, 2008, 08:24AM
You have to make package files for the powers to work with all the skins. To do that:

1 Decompile a package file

2 Replace data within it with the ones you need (mainly replace skin number, powerstyle, skeleton, and talent references, along with HUDs and hud-heads)

3 Recompile as (character name)_(skin number).PKGB

Example: I want to use a new polaris skin but don't have it's packages. What I do is open Rogue's package file, Rogue_0701.PKGB,
replace 0701 with 10307,
replace ps_rogue with ps_polaris
replace talents\rogue with talents\polaris
replace 07_rogue with 103_polaris
then change hud and hud_head references
and finally recompile to polaris_10307.PKGB.
[repeat the steps to make a polaris_10307_nc.PKGB as well. This is needed too]

It's a lot less complicated than I've made it out to be. Try it yourself. You'll get the hang of it eventually (I did)
Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: havok83 on May 24, 2008, 03:53PM
Thanks for the help. I found from another thread on this board that this can also be done with a hex editor. I found it easier using that and just editing the Polaris package I already had.

Actually it is ready to drag and drop in C:\Program Files\Activision\X-Men Legends 2  (unless you installed elsewhere).  The only thing you have to do is decompile, paste in, and compile your herostats.engb and add the character_heads lines in that package.  I believe there are directions on how to decompile the herostats somewhere on the forum.

Ok she is being updated.  She will get a few effect updates and a new fightstyle.  She wil be relying less on storm for her anims and a bit more on invisible woman.  Her Ploarity Pull move should work better with the new anims.  She is also getting new sounds and a voice.  She is getting a modified Ms. Marvel voice where I changed her pitch and tone to make her sound more feminine.  She will have at least 9 skins by the time of the release.  Just do not put her in the fourth slot until nodoubt_jr, myself, or anyone else learns to fix that bug.  Otherwise she shouldn't cause any runtime errors or crazy enemies with the knowledge of the new fighstyles we have now.

It is kind of random.  You will loose either all of or part of the second skeleton.  I had it once where all but one move worked from the second skeleton.  It is rather weird sometimes.

Her powers are now done with all recolored effects.  Her shields merged into one and a 180 degree spray move replaces it.  She has all new anims and everything.  Even her Metal Debris Knockout has been changed so that she has 2 points of the attack that she causes damage and that she cannot move until the debris starts to explode out.  She is looking great and now needs sounds and some new skins.  I got permission for 2 or 3 skins that aren't mine, which means she only needs 2 or 3 more.

Done.  Boreman did this.  There is another X-Factor skin that shafcrawler did (her later one).

Done.  I did this one a while ago.
Wow, great news! Im really looking forward to your work.

1 more suggestion could be her costume she wore when possessed by Malice in the 80s

Same for that one.  If someone can give me a good base, I don't mind giving it a try.

Post by: matt710 on June 16, 2008, 08:28PM
Alright guys, here is her skin roster thus far:

10301 - XML2 skin
10302 - AOA skin (from Blizz's pack)
10303 - Proposed Ultimate (like Havok's)
10304 - Modern (The one I said I did a while ago)
10305 - Mutant X
10306 - Shafcrawler's Sleavless X-Factor (I inputted Polaris' face and hair from 10301)
10307 - Boreman's Ultimate (Her regular clothes)
10308 - Boreman's X-Factor
10309 - Proposed Original (I am going to alter 10304 color-wise and texture-wise so it looks different
10310 - Proposed Shiar costume

As you can see, she has a full house.  I may do one of the following:

Horseman Costume (Would need a good base, Rhino is too masculine)
Red and Gold Costume (A little tough in the open area of the costume and the loose belt)
Malice (most likely)

Mutant X by Me:

Ultimate by Me (matches Havok's nicely):

Ultimate (Civilian)by Boreman:

X-Factor by Boreman (Goes nicely with Havok's):

X-Factor (Sleeveless) by Shafcrawler:

Shiar by Me:

(http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/1788/polarisshiarum7.jpg)

Ok summary of this:

I cleaned up Boreman's skins for XML2 since it shows up a little differently than in MUA (only the face seemed to have a line going down the middle).  I then used that face and hair for my Ultimate and Shiar skins as well as shafcrawler's skin (so the faces were all Polaris).  The Shiar skin just needs a little more work in the belly and upper leg regions and that one is done.  I have an AOA that I believe is BliZZ's, but I didn't make it a PS2 skin yet.  For the two other skins pictured, I am going to see what I can do about the choker.  Maybe try Alpha layering (If it works for PS2).  I still have to do her original skin, which is similar to the first skin pictured.  Additionally I plan on doing a Malice skin and maybe one more (the yellow one with a big x over one breast).  That will give you guys a lot of options for her.

Thanks again for letting me use your skins Boreman and Shafcrawler.  If one of you guys want the ps2 version of skins, I can pm it to you later.

XML2 Skin

(PS2 rip will be in its Place)

Alrighty let me explain the Genosha thing.  I was trying to do the real skin, but Enchantress wasn't cooperating too well.  I did make a loose interpretation of it and it came out good.  The AOA skin is acting funky.  It has a thin and long line that comes out of the right hand that never leaves the skin.  If I cannot fix it, then it will be left out.  She has enough skins to back up on though.

Can Stryfe not be used or like a gladiator avalanche? Because she doesn't look feminine but i get what you mean with rhino being too masculine. But that would be the best skin by far if we could pull it off!

I love the "original" skin, it's a shame I don't have XML2 on PC.

Anyway, I don't think the Pestilence skin would fit well with Polaris. Yes, they're both Lorna Dane, but they both have completely different powers. Lorna no-longer has her disease manipulation powers. For some of the Horsemen, their costumes make sense, such as Archangel. The most recent incarnations of the Horsemen (Polaris, Sunfire, Gazer and Gambit) had completely different powers.

It just wouldn't make sense to see Pestilence flying around using magnetic powers.

Thanks, but if you have MUA for PC it will work as well.  I mostly work with PS2 skins, which will work in MUA with no problem as well.  So any of the skins from my mod updates will work on XML2 and MUA.

Title: Re: Polaris Mod
Post by: Dihan on June 20, 2008, 03:23PM
He lost his powers as a result of M-Day so Apocalypse gave him the ability to make others believe they're starving (just as he gave Polaris the plague ingestion thing). That doesn't particularly sound a lot like the plasma blasts he uses. Also, Rogue stole Sunfire's powers and personality just as she did with Ms Marvel.

Granted, the whole Marvel universe is one giant retcon. Sunfire, Gambit and Polaris are all back to normal with their original powers.

Actually Sunfire lost his powers as a result of Rogue perma-absorbing them. They were gone before M Day. The starving stuff was something extra but he STILL was given the heat/flame/flight powers, he originally had before Rogue took them. Ditto with Lorna having her magnetic powers/flight in addition to the plague stuff thanks to Apocalypse.

Wow looks like ive started a debate lol i agree with the sunfire thing, he seemed to have just been enhanced and i know gambit had that poison gas thing and polaris the disease but Polaris is still depowered, she was given artificial magnetic powers by apocalypse. Gambit probably just used the poison gas as a preference because he was the horseman of death, when sinister hired him he stuck with his original powers. Thats my comprehension anyway. So it wouldn't be out of the ordinary, maybe the skin could just add a poison type move?

Polaris Final?? Update by Matt710

Note thank you everyone for their help.  Thanks nodoubt_jr for supplying some files needed for sounds.  Also thanks to boreman for letting me use your X-factor and Ultimate (Civilian) skins and shafcrawler for letting me use your sleaveless x-factor skin.

Polaris Mod Update :

11 Skins
11 Conversation Huds
5 new 3D Huds
1 Menu Portrait (New)
Shields were merged and one new power added
New Effects
Working sound (complete effects by me x_voices for menu sounds will be coming soon)
New fightstyle

If you would like to use the other skins replace any of the skins in the herostat with the number you
want.

The skins are:

01 - XML2 skin
03 - Ultimate (like Havok's)
04 - Modern Skin (Similar to original, but very different)
05 - Mutant X (Original simple one that was just a pink suit instead of multitoned) <not in herostats>
06 - Sleavless X-Factor (shafcrawler's skin)
07 - Civilian Ultimate (Boreman's skin)
08 - X-Factor (Boreman's Skin)
09 - Original (New Skin)
10 - Shiar Costume (New Skin)
11 - Yellow/Dark Blue costume with big x <not in herostats>
12 - Genosha costume (Black and green outfit)

Here is the new version of Polaris that uses her own fightstyle.  If you don't use Emma Frost in your party, you won't even need this, but for those of you that use both, I'd suggest you download this.  I'd even recomend that those who don't have Emma download this just in case they want to use her in the future.  It also fixes attack_knockback

Thanks, I didn't realize I didn't name it correctly with the hex editor.  When the name gets that long it doesn't display the whole thing.  I will re-up a new, correct one, soon.

PS.  Those are my two favorites too.  I was going to throw out the genosha skin since it wasn't doing what I wanted, but I played with it and came up with the end result.  My favorite has to be the Shiar one out of the two though.

i did what i usually do. i highlight from actors down, copied, pasted, did the herostat thing, and the ui number to the character_head pcgk, and so on. and that's what i got :o/

also, i just noticed something. i was reading through the tutorial and it said that in each actor folder there is an xx_character file, and that those first numbers are its base number. in polaris' new updated file, she has 103 as her base number, with a bunch of 103xxx files, but one of those files is 1901.igb. none of the other character actor files has a drastically different number than the base number...so could that have something to do with it?

ok ok forget that. SORRY
...so i made a lot of copies of the original game files on my external hard drive to test out characters, and i did a fresh drag and drop of polaris in there. so now i find that she works GREAT! except for oooone little thing...her electomagnetic blast, which is like storm's chain lightning, is big, white, yellow, and pink.

Can anybody post the effects of Polaris' chain lightning cause everytime I use it she shoots a yellow and pink and white looking effect that looks like it belongs in a cartoon. It takes the form of her lightning and I have installed this mod 6 times exactly to get her effects. I checked Storm and her chain lightning is working although from pics it looks like they have different effects for the chain lightning. Anybody know the problem? And can anyone post the files and effects for this power?

EDIT: Ok, fixed the problem. I'll explain what I did in case anyone else finds that they have the same problem that I had. I simply used the XMLB compiler/decompiler and opened up a file located in effects/char/storm called p2_chain.engb. I then opened up a file called p3_chain.engb which is in effects/char/polar. I copied all of the stuff from Storm's p2_chain.engb and replaced p3_chain.engb with Storm's stuff. I checked Polaris in the danger room and her chain lightning works looking identical to Storm's. Not sure if their chain lightnings are supposed to look different or same but I don't mind that they look alike. I tried them together and it was cool seeing them both use the same power.
Title: Re: Polaris Mod

Or if you look at a previous post, you will need to download the models/igb pack from MUA for XML2 so that it looks different from storm's.

Hate to bump this but there was a problem with Polaris' Chain Lightning that I have found, and since it was extremely frustrating to me to fix, I thought I'd share.

If you pay attention, the FIRST chain does not cause any damage, just shoots throught the enemy/object, then the second, third, etc chains cause all the damage. Using your XMLBCUI, open Polaris' powerstyle and find the Chain Lightning. There are two effect entries there. One is using Magneto's P8 power, the other further down using Polaris' P4 power. DELETE THE POLARIS TRIGGER.

It should be inbetween Trigger Lightning Data and Trigger Bip01 R Hand entries. Just Ctrl X that out, save the file and compile and it should work after that.

As always, copy the folder first and back it up, then run the game to see if you get the same effect as me.

Again, I'm sorry for bumping an ancient thread, but when I was reinstalling the game and mods, I forgot about this one little flaw in an otherwise immaculate mod. Hope I helped! :polaris:

Hey there! Pay attention to the strangeness "powerstyles" the ability
name = power7;  there is a line:

Quote
      event {
      arc = 90 ;
      attacktype = blast ;
      damagescale = none ;
      damagetype = dmg_magnetic ;
      hiteffect = char/polar/p7_impact ;
      inherit = punch ;
      name = radial_punch ;
      victimeventtag = 98 ;
         damageMod {
         name = dmgmod_popup ;
         }

      }

But in the  folder "Effects",  no power - p7_impact

And the ability does not work properly! that the author may have missed something
