Mystique is my next mod I will do.  I am basing her off of Nodoubt's npc.

I plan on adding a few things with her.

she has a morphing ability, gun shot, bomb throw, and xtreme.

I think I will be adding another gun ability.

For her morphing I plan on 2 abilities and 2 boosts:

1) Ability that causes her to morph into an enemy that has a chance to cause enemies in a radius of her to become confused (like sunfires burn thing so it is only temp)

2) Similar to 1 but it may cause temp conversion.

3) Boost where she morphs to sabertooth to have enhanced melee damage, ar, and movement speed

4) Boost where she becomes unoticed by enemies (similar to invisible but I want her to morph into an enemy)

Another option is to have her throw a trap.

As for passives and Xtreme2 I am still in the drawing board for them.

the forge npc/black widow mod/cable mod, have a riffle, maybe you can use a rifle move.  Black Panther has a bolton dagger, you could add a dagger throw (she has used knifes in the past, including on Rouge (what a b*tch :) ))

cant wait, we need more Brotherhood members in this game.

Thanks the dagger throw is a good idea.  I guess I have to figure out what to not do for moves now.   :(

Maybe I may experiment with dark phoenix cause I thought of a way to add more moves, and if it works I will do it on mystique.

hrmmm too many transforming related things.... i know its her ability but still

how bout #4 goes like this?

each level increasing each of them slightly... and i wonder... is it possible to have it "Turn on" instead of having a standard duration? like how Jean's TK and Bishop's Full Auto are... well except for having to hold down the button

and #3 was also cool, i'd say if it went like this it'd be cooler
Randomly change into another mutant, on low levels you get regular guys like Scott Summers(i mean weak as physical ability, not his optic blasts, which she wouldn't get now would she?) and on high levels, she becomes tough dudes like Juggz n Blob or as you said Sabretooth
each level increasing the duration and % of their power, from like 50% to 150% or something

now i have no idea how you could do that but... maybe for the stats you could put in your own values and only show in the description "50%" as it would be 50% of what you think that character is capable of.......

maybe.... i dunno, but anyways as for the rest of her abilities you are gonna need some crazy acrobatics, passives and such.... if im online later i could give some suggestions in detail

I actually had planned on a random character xtreme boost I thought of it a while ago but didn't want to say anything until I saw that the random part was possible.  It was the one xtrme I never explained.  Thanks for the suggestions though.

Progress:

Her 2 morphing into an enemy skills aren't working too well.  Fist off they don't cause the status I want and she will not change back to her true self.  I may have to ditch the steal skin and maybe have to have her change into a lab assistant (something that looks harmless). 

I tried to get enemies to ignore her without turning her invisible, but that didn't work so I made her invisible with the explaination that she is camoflauging to her environment to be hard to see.  (an ability according to marveldatabase)

I have the grenade and gun moves in but just have to tweek them.  They do so little damage so I have to fix that. 

Boost to sabretooth nixed to have her create the form of wolverine's claws (you will see why I nixed it for her xtreme)

Her xtrme boost is actually 4 abilities that are chosen from random.  She will morph into Wolverine, Beast, Lady Deathstrike, or Sabretooth. 

As wolverine:

Boosted defense (High)
Boosted attack (medium-high)
Boosted resitences
Boosted regeneration

As Beast:

Boosted speed (medium high)
Boosted attack (medium)
Boosted dodge (High)
Boosted defense (medium high)

As Deathstrike

Boosted speed (High @almost insane@)
Boosted attack (medium-low)
Boosted dodge (medium-high)
Less EP consumed (soon to change to something else, I will explain later in the post)

As Sabretooth

Boosted Attack (High)
Boosted Speed (medium)
Boosted resitences
Boosted regeneration


Why I have to nulify abilities:

It seems that if you use her camoflauge power she returns back to the random character permamently.  I would assume once I get the other shifting abilities up it will do the same.  Also if you repeat the extreme, the boosts from the previous random character add onto the boosts of the current random character.  So I have to do like Burning's Emma Frost Diamond form and nullify her abilities for the duration of the boost.  I chose these 4 characters because she cannot mimic abilities but can enhance abilities she already has, hence the similar abilities at different scales.  If another character fits the 'mold' I may consider adding him/her to the random change. 

So she is coming along.  I also may decide to change the menu select portrait to something different.  I know the one the game supplies is from her load screen from XML but I seem to like a pic I saw on marveldatabase beter.   :)

doesnt her npc character separate steal skin and revert skin? one power could have her change skin, and the other can have her return to her normal skin. I know that would be a waste of an extra power, but morphing is her main power and i would love to be able to control that morphing.  But i totally understand your difficulties with the morphing, my Magik Mod has 3 skin changes and yeah if they criss cross it messes up the games memory and you might get stuck with the new skin instead of the original.

Are you using a script to change the skin?  I used a morphing script for Mandarin mod, and I've seen similar scripts floating around in other mods.  In that script, I defined a zone variable called "transform" which was set to value 0 if Mandarin wasn't transformed and 1 if Mandarin was transformed.  It was a way of keeping track of whether the power was activated or not.  If you have multiple morphing powers, using the same zone variable may cause conflicts as they will both be using the same tag to store information on whether the power is active.  So, that may be your problem.

Another thing I wanted to mention was that it might be better to not use a script for the morphing power because it's not as easy to tie it into an ability that can be leveled up.  If you need an example of how a character can change skins without a script, look at Human Torch's powerstyle file.

I am just doing the powerstyle.  I thought of something that may work.  I may attempt to do a hold down power move that has ep/sec.  By releasing the button she reverts back.  I will try it tonight and report back.

You could also try to mimic the code for Mr. Fantastic's Pinball attack (if you have MUA).  It separates the power into three sections - 1. start (initial EP cost, and you would do a skin swap here); 2. loop (EP/second cost); and 3. power end (revert back to normal, where you would switch back to the original skin).  The loop section contains "chain" conditionals, so you could specify that if you press a certain button, Mystique will revert back to her original skin.  If you can code it this way, then the morphing power wouldn't need to be separated into two on and off powers.

Still not working.  I think I may scrap those 2 moves and do 2 new ones in their places. 

1) similar to the confusion but it starts out as an attack and chains as a boost.  So the attack confuses them and the boost will change skin/her ar.  I just have to figure who she should transform into.

2) she transforms into an armored character and boosts her defenses with her ability (she could do this after being exposed to the radiation)  Anybody come accross a good bolton or skin for armor?

I also have to think of another xtreme and have room for one - two more attacks (depends if I do 3 or 4 passives)  The xtreme for attack I want her to cause a massive explosion, I was thinking of her throwing like 20 grenades and detonating them with her guns.  For the extra ability I am going to try adapting cyclops' trap for her.  I am also going to add a possibility to instantly kill an enemy with her first gun move up at levels 16-20.

After she is done I will move onto Black Cat or Phoenix (Rachel Grey)

Black Cat will have her agility and attack based moves (mix of black panther and beast) and possibly her Jinx move as her Xtreme and one ability (I know they don't fit together but how much can I do with choosing one set of the moves or the other)

Phoenix will be easy.  She will have a mix of her own unique moves, Jean Grey's moves, and Dark Phoenix's moves.  To make her more unique I will probably apply the animations for Jean's xtreme from xml1 for her Xtreme.  A question for everybody.  Are Jean's Xml1 boost animations different from her xml2 animations?

X-Man is still in the picture but I just dread doing new skins for him.  Black Cat will be easier to make (black body suit, white hair, black mask, white accents).

Blade has a move were he throws some grenades in the air, and then he shoots them causing them to explode some radiation thing.  He might be want you want for that grenade xtreme move.

She is giving me major problems.  3 of the moves work but don't do the right damage, and her xtreme doesn't work at all.  Her original gun moves (2/3 that don't do the right damage) don't do enough damage no matter how I define the damage. They do only 2-17 damage.  Almost like her attacks.  The extra gun move I put in (a hold and continue shooting move) works for the status ailment (50% hp loss for a 55% chance at the highest level) but has the same problem with damage.  The other problem I have is her bomb xtreme isn't working.  It won't do any damage and only stops half way.  For the guns I may have to redefine them like deadpool or something. 

On a lighter note her 4 shapshifting moves work like a charm!  Also her 4 passives work too.  The regular grenade move and cyc's auto artillary I added work as well.  So she is almost done, just needs a little revamping with her guns. 

She has new icons, a new portrait, original 3d and conversation huds and her skins from xml1 and xml2.  She even says things upon selecttion in field and laughs durring her xtreme I believe.

She is finally done!!!!  With a few compromises though.

Thanks nodoubt for supplying the xml1 NPC you made that this mod was based off of.

So anyway I figured out how to fix her bullet problem, but the problem was it only solved her first gun move.  So Gun move 3 was made so that it is a faster and continuous version of the first gun move (so upping it only increases speed of the move, the stun rate, deadly blow rate, and lessens the EP/s consumption.  Damage of the first gun move is referenced for it).  The 2nd gun move had to be really fixed cause it was doing 0 damage.  So now it uses rogue's 180 degree blast for damage, but the original animation.  Oh well if I can think of something better there are still updates.

Also I recolored the explosion from her xtreme from green to an actual explosion color.  I was just lazy and did it last minute.  I didn't really feel like redoing the preview of it, so just imagine it not looking so green.   :D

Black Cat has some good boosts. And X-Man's the only PSP exclusive that hasn't been done, I think.

I will have to look for that in my files I found in a flash pen.  She was on my list to restart again anyway.  I was thinking of using Deadpool's MUA skeleton as her fighstyle to add more throwing and gun shot animations.  I will probably fix that spread shot move since I learned from fixing Black Cat's star throw move.  I also will probably remove the original repeat shot and use deadpool's version due to glitches with gun removal.  I also might get rid of one of her morphing skills (probably the lab tech morph since I don't believe it works right).  So she is next on my list and the Dark Phoenix.

It seems that the only problems with using the MUA skeleton is that it is kick heavy, but I may be able to offset that with some of his power animations that will be unused.  There won't be any swords but they would probably look like karate chops.  What do you guys think?

Ok I figured a few ways to fix Mystique.

First I figured out why the spread shot never worked.  Secondly I will use Deadpool's skeleton to do the hold down power and shoot.  Thirdly she will loose the once ability where she sets a trap, but gains Deadpool's grenade throwing ability.  I may also see what the animation looks like for Deadpool's extreme and alter hers slightly.

I also thought of a way to do the steal skin I think.  If what I think I can do works, I will be able to do her original morphing power without sacrificing a power.  Since half of her powers don't work when her skin is changed already anyway, I will just use this line:

      chain {
      action = powers ;
      result = transform_back ;
      }

All I have to do is have an entry that loops to itself for everything except that and idle to make it loop again.  If that fails, I can maybe just redo all of her fightsyles again with different names and always link them back to this linking entry again.  I don't have any idea if it will work since it is just a theory, but if it does she can steal skin.

Basically if everything works according to plan she will rock.  But we will have to see...

Ok while working on Mystique I learned one new thing.  There is an extra power animation in there for another gun attack.  She spins and shoots with one hand.  I may use it for something, maybe replace the smash ability when she morphs to that one gun move.  I don't know yet.  Also I learned a valuable lesson.  XML2 doesn't look to the fightstyle skeleton for menu animations.  I found this out by trying it for Black Cat, but it didn't work as planned.  Oh well...

Ok I'm still working on her.  This is what is proposed.

She actually shares little general attack animations with Deadpool since her heavy and stun attacks are with gun animations.  Thus I had a lot to work with for the other attacks. 

Next, she is sharing only two attacks with deadpool, which are his looping gun attack and grenade attack from MUA.  The gun attack has different status effects that are similar to the original mod.

I am still trying to fix her steal form, which is tricky.  I think I may be able to do it, but if not I can always revert it back to a random civilian skin. Also her spread gun move seems to not be working either, so I may have to try to find a way to fix it.  If I cannot fix it as is I have a few routes I can go.  One way is changing the projectiles to beams (like deadpool's gun attacks in MUA).  This should allow me to do multiple beams based on different bone angles.  The other is changing it to be similar to Black Cat's throwing stars move but changing the spread and number to match what she does in her animations (mutch harder than the other one).

The only thing I am still debating is whether to keep her grenade-based extreme as is, using Deadpool's MUA Gun-based extreme, or creating a hybrid of both.  Note that deadpools extreme in MUA is different than his XML2 one I think (someone correct me if I am wrong).  I want to see everyone's opinions on this one.

She is coming along and will be out for testing when I am done.

I like this mod as it is except maybe change one ok her look a like attack to that new onw. And make her be able to murph into more than one person.

Yeah I kind of see what you mean, it kind of is too showy for her.  I am almost done with the new ps so I will probably be testing tomorrow.

Alrighty I have some bad news and good news...

The good news: 
-Her wild shot (the spreading gun move) works and attacks more than just the enemy right in front of her.
-Her Deadpool skeleton as a fightstyle is working great.

The bad news:
-Her skin stealing morph doesn't work too well because if she gets hit she cannot transform back and sometimes the system glitches and she can't transform back either.
-Her heavy attacks (I made gun attacks as her attack heavies) work, but cannot be aimed or homed-in, so basically you have to position her with an enemy right in front of her to work.
-Her form claws move doesn't work with her attack heavies and since she kicks more, they don't make sense.

So I may have to scrap her steal_form move and just do a bunch of random forms like in her Xtreme (they will be noncannon or harmless-looking characters instead). 

Also I can either get rid of her form claws or put her attack heavies back to kicks and punches (I may use deadpool's first power animation as the finisher for it).  If I do that, I will also add foot claws (like X-23) so that it makes sense that her kicks are boosted.  I may go with the second route since her attack heavies as guns don't work unless the enemy is in front of you anyway.  (that makes me angry since I liked her ea_power1 animation, but she has too many gun attacks anyway...)

So she is coming along rather nicely since the setbacks are very fixable.

matt710, it just occured to me that you can make her form-changing a boost in that she isn't perceived as a threat (kinda like going invisible for Kurt and Psylocke). That could be doable, don't you think?

Thanks, that is a good idea.  I have the invisible version of that, but that could be changed to a skin.  It would be perfect for steal_form, but it doesn't work....  I can maybe combine the concept of her two morphs into one that way and create a new ability for her.  I will have to think of what though.  Maybe I may have her use the power disabler she used on ironman....  I'll have to see.

Ok she is looking great and with sound!!!  I just added a few sounds to hold her over until Teancum does his.  It gave me the practice for my other mods.  She even laughs when she performs her Xtremes.  I just have to adjust the timing of the morphing sounds (not from XML1 but from the 90's series) and the continuous shooting seems buggy.  She should be done soon after I do some work with skins and HUDS.

Mystique is almost done.  The only thing left is that I want to add more skins.  Norrin Radd was nice enough to allow me to use his two skins.  So that leaves at least 5 more to do eventually between this update and her final.  I have a few possibilities here:

You can also get an extra skin by using her XML1 skin, which is the same as XML2, but with red leather instead of black.

I might try my hands at a few of these. For house of M, I think you should go with her normal base, as there really isn't any short-haired female skin with an asymmetrical torso section. btw, a base that could've been perfect for the movie skin was the original cuckoo skin planned (the one the HUD is based on). UNFORTUNATELY, they ignored to put it in the game, so yeah, there's that.

Alrighty I added the XML1 morphing sound for her regular morphing moves, but kept the 90's series morphing sound for her x-treme morphing move.   I am also just finishing her Ultimate X-men Uniform.  It came out nice, I just have to add borders to where the skin meets the leather.  Next up I will either do the long coat skin or the Next Dimension skin.

Here is the update/rerelease of Mystique.  I would have to say the mod runs really well, and sounds cool with the sounds.  Nodoubt_jr is adding her to the x_voices, which will complete her on the sound end.  I would like to thank nodoubt, teancum, and norrin for their help and contributions for the mod.  Also thanks to shafcrawler for the idea to merge two of her moves.

She has 6 skins and huds.

2803 - PS2 Ultimate (made by me)

I was doing a bit of experimenting with your mod - and after double-checking to make sure that everything was installed where it was meant to be installed - I discovered that Mystiques 'CTRL' attack either makes her run in place when you press it a second time or she freezes in place when you try to chain it with the main attack

I'll have to check her chain commands for that move.  It could be because the move has two parts.  Maybe I should just get rid of the first part that confuses enemies.  In a futre updat I will try to fix it.  Thanks for brining it up.

Hi guys!
I'm new round here and i'm just lovin this whole other experience with mods!
Just a question about the Mystique mod.....

there seems to be a problem with her fightstyle.
I'm not sure of the exact directions, but there is a problem each time i try to perform one of her combos. On the last hit of the move, mystique stands completely still and doesnt attack but you can hear a sound of an attack.
It's strange but maybe if you have time you could look into it.!

Oh I almost forgot.  The single skeleton version uses fightstyle_hero and has 2 altered moves.  Her Grenade Mayhem move changed that she throws 3-6 grenades in a 90 - 180 degree arc and they explode with a radius of 3ft once they hit something.  The other move, Rapid Reload, was redone so that she could use her flip shot animation when.

The dual skeleton version had her fightstyle fixed.

Both versions had attack_stun3 put in as a unique move, fixed Artilery Mastery, and made her regular grenade move detonate sooner (so enemies didn't have as much of a chance to run).

She is actually maxed out power wise.  To add anything something would have to be taken away.  Also, there isn't too much one can do with morphing.

the multiple skeleton version has the chance of crashing your game after extended play. the one using fightstyle_whatever won't crash your game.

Sorry to ressurect this, but I saw that this wasn't answered.  The X-23 file is for the foot claws in her form claws move and the avalanche file is an igb for an effect file to work properly.  Hope that clarifies it.

to add to that, maybe using apocalypse's morphing skill can be used. like when someone hits her, she follows the form of the the dude and copie's the action done.
