tech problems

Tech guys my pc is acting weird sometimes while playing the screen freezes and locks to what ever was going on,other times the monitor shuts off completely the pc is still running is this the hard drive crashing on me?its been through many rigs I put together.Or something all together different?  Thanks for any help.

could it be overheating / on the way out / causing something else to overheat?

If the vid card and HDD are close by and one is slow or poor performing it could affect the other.  Slow clunky HDD giving off a lot of heat could disrupt the video card.  Sounds more like a video card issue than HDD.  Try removing then reinstalling the video card drivers.  I've had similar problems in the past.  Sometimes this works, sometimes your video card is FUBAR.  Or, even worse, your bad video card could crap out your mobo.  Let me know what happens, I'll try to help

Thanks I'll reinstall drivers,the hard drive is far away but has alway made noise right ouy of the box.Let you know how it goes. thank again.

From the time I got it for HD,BTW reinstalled video drivers,took off the heatsink took out the chip put it all back seems to be ok of course that wonderful clicking that always been there still there. I'm running it through some high graph games to see whats up.

well thats good.  i dunno about that hdd though, i wouldn't trust it.  loud noises are not good.  let me know if you need anymore help, im a techie by trade ;-)

You did put new heatsink compound on when you replaced the heatsink, right?  ALWAYS put new heatsink compound on when you replace the heatsink or you're more prone to overheat.  You can get it at Radio Shack.

Yeah already had the compound,on a good note I've been playing high end games nonstop with out a hitch so might be back on the fast track.Thanks alot guys.

My last problem was bad connection from power to motherboard fix.

New problem sound card making noise Q. can I take it out and put drop of machine oil on fan without any side problems? Thanks guys for the help.

If the fan spins fine when you tap the "fins" or propellers, then you don't need to put machine oil... Sometimes, the fan is just not tight enough or too tight (therefore, it's scratching something).  If you really want to put a drop of oil, then just one small drop should be ok.

EDIT: This happened with a few of the fans on my computer. They always screeched at night!

Ok it never stops runnig but squeeks every now and again so off to clean real good and try it thanks again.
