I think it's Piledrivers item that has the description of "finnishers do double damage".

What's a finnisher supposed to be?

Phoenix Force: No. He loves Emma Frost.  He loves me.
Jean Grey: He wants her. Not you. Not US. And now it's time... to leave this behind.
Phoenix Endsong #5

i think that they're melee combos like trip and stun

Yup, last hit in a 3-hit melee combo (stun, pop-up, trip), or a charged knockback attack.

And the item that gives the bonus is Executioner's Axe.

As an aside, and somewhat related, there are 3 items to my knowledge that were supposed to be dropped by 3 bosses (Krang, Lizard and Dr. Doom), but for some reason they don't drop them. Probably a mistake by the programmers. Of those 3, the Lizard one was implemented in the Official Characters mod, but the other 2 are still unused. Anyhow, the Krang one gave a bonus of +50% damage to Finishers, and Doom's Mask gave +1 to all skills and +10% to health and/or energy. The easy way to get them in game is to modify items.engb, look for that item entry and change the name of the boss that was supposed to drop it for one that does drop items (Scorpion should be the first choice). The next time you fight that boss, he'll drop it, provided you've already got his original item (Scorpion's Tail, for example) from a previous playthrough.

great tip!
