Title: Official Characters - ALPHA RELEASED!
Post by: BliZZ on September 30, 2007, 08:50AM
Here we go, with a long awaited release.... the Official Characters! Includes Hawkeye, The Hulk, Cyclops, and Nightcrawler. Also includes Colossus/Moon Knight, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Ronin for ease of download to any of you newbies out there :)

Click on picture to download
(http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/5107/49391382le4.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/?d2q2x20ldbh)

Included in the Herostat are The Hulk, Colossus, and Moon Knight. You can overwrite the "Defaultman" character with whoever you want out of the pack. You can also replace any characters you want with the other 5.

A lot of work went into this, so thanks to everyone who helped, and have fun to everyone else.

PS: The villains'll come some day..... hopefully.

I know what you meant. You can download it yourself, and only install the files that apply to those characters. Going out of my way, and other people going out of their's, to help specific people accomplish what they can on their own is not high on any priority lists.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a different NC than previous versions.

Edit: that means it does have a new, different and working xtreme.

Being that I haven't heard anything about those Hawkeye HUDs in the mod thread (or any comments on the one I already made, other than iammingy), I'm assuming you guys already went and took care of them?  Or is this mod missing them for now?

Quotewill u have the mannequin for the villains too???

We're working on it.  If nobody else gets to it (I think Tommy and Mark are the only other modelers here), then I'll probably make some at some point.

Thank you for all the work being done guys.

Also, Hawkeye looks quite sharp in the screencap, is it because of a higher resolution or it's also a different skin?

Thanks.

Yes, MK includes his 4th skin. Otherwise, it is the same, so overwriting shouldn't harm anything.

how do i overwrite the defaultman i have two of them i don't see it on my herostat except for the very first couple of lines of code:
stats {
   autospend = support_heavy ;
   body = 1 ;
   characteranims = 00_testguy ;
   charactername = defaultman ;
   level = 1 ;
   menulocation = 0 ;
   mind = 1 ;
   name = default ;
   skin = 0002 ;
   strength = 1 ;
   team = enemy ;
      talent {
      level = 1 ;
      name = fightstyle_default ;
      }

   }

That's the one. It's short because it's the default without any powers, I think.
Title: Re: Official Characters - ALPHA RELEASED!
Post by: Gevth on October 01, 2007, 11:31AM
I think you have to copy the herostat entry of the hero you want (from the readme) and paste it over the defaultman entry.
Alternatively, delete the entry you're showing us and paste your hero's entry (with menulocation = 0).
The important thing is, the defaultman entry you've shown us must be deleted.

Hello there. I am trying to install this great pack. But I already have Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Hawkeye as I said before. Do you suggest doing the following steps?

1.- replace Nightcrawler back with Deadpool (I can do this, I saved the backup files for it) HEROSTAT + FILE CHANGES
2.- replace Hawkeye with Black Widow HEROSTAT CHANGES
3.- replace Cyclops with Dazzler (I can do it I keep the files there so that I do only have to modify herostat) HEROSTAT CHANGES
4.- search and delete all files from old NC, old Cycl. and old Hawkeye
5.- copy the files in this pack
6.- edit herostat entries for new Hawkeye, Cycl., and NC.

Of course first of all I must do a full backup of my current configuration. I would like to do this and not re-install everything again because I have maaaaaany mods already installed, and ready to be played with.

Do you guys think it should work?

Many thanks for all your contributions to making this game a real hit.

it should work, although you could skip step 4., and just overwrite the files that overwrite and leave the ones that dont.

hulk, colossus, and MK come packaged as playable because they are defined in the herostat file. If you are unaware what that means, see the main page instructions on how to add a mod. All you have to do is edit the herostat if you already have all the files.

Follow the walkthrough on the main page. It should be simple enough to follow. And I also believe you have one more space available before you have to start replacing characters.

Ok... thanks for that bit of help... just need a bit more.

Followed the instructions given on the page you linked for me... and was able to successfully replace luke cage *who i didn't like in the game* with the juggernaught as they said on that page.

So confident in my work, i went, and changed the 'defaultman' to nightcrawler and all i got was a title 'defaultman'.  when i selected him the image of the hulk... and when i took him in game,  i got what looked like iceman's classic image... the white blob form... with absolutely no powers.

help?

Under what number did you put Nightcrawler? menulocation = 96 or menulocation = 26?
Also, decompile and check herostat.engb again, just to be sure all changes were applied.

96... why?
i just copied it straight over from the readme file...
i'll try 26
edit:
I think i know what i did. I exported to an XMDB instead of the EGDB file extension... thus... it doesn't have the right file to work from *snickers* oops. *fixes*

I'm stumped, so maybe someone can help me here. I've been using a number of different mods here with little to know problem, but somehow stumbled when I got to this one. I get Nightcrawler and Cylops to show up in game fine. However, neither of them have any powers, and Nightcrawlers grab move is not executed correctly.

I checked and double checked to make sure I had put everything in the right place, but still have the same trouble. Was wondering if anyone could help me out a bit.

Well, seeing as I had so many mods installed here or there and was switching out so much, I just decided that I bungled somewhere along the way in installing something or deleting something. Uninstalled and reinstalled and then just installed the Official Alpha mod. Everything is working fine now. Just wanted to say thanks for putting this together, as well as for putting up with questions like mine which can easily be solved with a little common sense.

So I've been using this package for few day and I must say that it's truly awesome!  I finally feel like Raven stopped shafting me!  So like I said very impressed and just wanted to say thank you to all the people who put the hard work in.

Just for fun here's a couple of 1 time glitch's I've experienced with the pack that are by no means real issues but are just funny.

1. Cyclops was hit by box, aparantely the box was adamantium as he entered stun mode and refused to leave until the next extraction point.

2. I had both of nightcrawlers boosts running similtanously and he refused to leave this state even after 90 whatever seconds.  Leaving the map fixed it but invisibility and swords equals mass x-termination!

3.  And even though he's not in this pack I was able to lock Quicksilver in with a shield agent who was locked in his living compartment by upping his speed and teleporting all over the place.

I just meant it is a pity such big arms... the skinning is already GREAT. but when it walks it looks so weird...

And now that I realise  :D I lost 1 position for the heroselect screen. I mean 2 I had from old psp mod - 1 I got for Hulk.

Is there a way to restore the 2 positions I had? that would be 3 positions more, with this mod. That would be pretty cool.

If I understand correctly what you mean with "position", then the max number is 27. I believe you have to replace defaultman's entry in herostat.engb to have the other position.

That means that the 2 slots you get from the psp mod are occupied by Hulk and the defaultman entry in this mod.

Hi guys,

Very new at gaming and modding so please keep in mind :)

I am trying to install this mod and first of all thanks a lot to who spent time doing it.

Now, I got MK,Colossus,Hulk and Defaultman.
I started a new game and the first strange thing is that it started mid way of the first stage, almost at the Scorpion stage and with only 3 characters.
I also got a message that Defaultman(or the character I substituted it with) was unlocked and available for selection later.

When I get to the team change screen, in place of Defaultman I just get an empty space with the name of the substituted character.
For example I get an empty space with the name Ronin.

If I go into the specs of Ronin there are no powers listed.
In the costumes tab there are the names of the different costumes although when selected nothing appears.
I have tried Ronin and Nightcrawler with the same results.
I tried to use one of these "invisible" characters anyway in a roster but I got a memory crash dump on the system.

The other one I have tried is Cap. Marvel and this one works.
In this case though when I use his powers there is no sound and he doesn't fly: is this as it is supposed to be?

Another thing: when I copied all the files I saw folders for Magneto, Venom and other characters.
How do you use them since I don't have their herostat definitions in my readme.txt file?

Thanks a million to whoever can help me out.

From what I gather the only releases in the character pack is the good guys available exclusively to other formats (Capt marvel for PSP, Hulk for 360 etc) and so everything for them is 'complete' (powers, sounds, mannequins etc).

The villains (Magneto, Venom etc) are under way and probably going to be released all together. The presence of the folders in the download were probably just created for the content (when it was ready) and not taken out when the other files were uploaded

Everything except for sounds (Hawkeye, Hulk, Marv, Ronin, Widow don't have them; whereas Colossus, Moony, 'Crawler, and Cyke do) and Some skins for Ronin are included, mannequins and all. I don't know where you would be having problems :scratchhead:

I believe the stuff for the villains was effects, etc; which was left in out of laziness, IIRC.

Hello,

Thank you both of you.

Experimenting I fixed almost everything and BliZZ clarifications should have almost all solved.

I found out that in the decompiled herostat.eng file I have to leave the menulocation for Defaultman to 96 in order for the characters to appear.
I used to change that to "0" since that's what I understood had to be done from the tutorial.

Is this correct?

Menulocation for the character I use has to be always 96 in place of defaultman?
If instead I substitute a character with another I use the spot occupied by the character I am replacing?

I haven't tried all the characters yet but I managed to make Ronin appear and use it in combact.
The only thing is if I select as costumes Echo or Street Gear the game shuts down.
Is this only my problem or it's expected(BliZZ you say that only some skins are included)?

As for Cap.Marvel is he supposed to flight?

Yes, 96 must remain the menulocation for the 27th character to show up.

The only thing is if I select as costumes Echo or Street Gear the game shuts down.
Is this only my problem or it's expected(BliZZ you say that only some skins are included)?

Yes, those 2 skins do not exist yet.

Yes

No, I only put it together. A LOT of people put work into this :)

Yes

Any idea why I can't make him fly?
I hit the spacebar twice (like for the human torch or iron-man) but he doesn't take off.
Does he flies with all his costumes?
If so what might be wrong?

On the positive side I managed to substitute Blade(does anyone actually likes the character?)with Venom.

Well kudos to you all.
I am curious though: can only characters existing in other games be modded or any Marvel characters can be created?
It would be nice to have Penance, the Inhumans or Galactic Aunt May (anybody remembers her where from?It makes you wonder what editors are there for, sometimes;)

Did you start a new game? It's a prerequisite.

QuoteOn the positive side I managed to substitute Blade(does anyone actually likes the character?)with Venom.

Blade is ok. Some of his powers are pretty strong and fast IMO. Just play him as a bruiser and don't use power too often, then you will be ok with this guy.

I think this is what everyone (edit) some people are doing in this community --- bring the characters from comic pages to the game.

Well, lets say you haven't added any mod to the game. You should have 23 characters. This mod comes with 3 additional characters installed (Moon Knight, Colossus and Hulk).
After that you have to replace characters. HOWEVER, you can replace the defaultman entry in the herostat with any of the characters in the readme file, almost the same way you'd replace any other character.
After having those 4 new characters installed, you'll have a roster of 27 characters. Then you have to start replacing characters.

QuoteAnyhow where can I find out what every character is good for besides what is my knowledge from the funny books?

The herostat has the info. For example, the second line in Blade's section says "bruiser".

   stats {
   autospend = bruiser ;
   body = 7 ;
   characteranims = 01_blade ;
   charactername = Blade ;
   level = 1 ;
   menulocation = 8 ;
   mind = 4 ;
   name = Blade ;

"bruiser" = high strike, low body, low focus
"bruiser_light" = low strike, high body, low focus
"support" = low strike, low body, high focus

Also, there's a pretty good guide for MUA here:

They are "exact" copies of the characters from the Gold Edtion. Only the skins are not "exact" copies. For example, the skins for Nightcrawler originate from XML2 and Hulk's skins are done by thetommyboy2002. :)

the 360 models arent compatible, so new models have to be made.
The skins are fit to the model, so if there is no available model that is similar to the one from the DLC character these skins cant be fitted to the available models

if there are similar models available, then the DLC skins can be fitted to the models (such as cyclops)

Nightcrawler's Ultimate seems to have a bug in it.
I can get it to work fine in normal gameplay (so I assume I installed everything right), but I have problems with it in the first (inofficial) Asgard simulator mission (added my the MK/Colossus Pack). The ultimate starts as normal and he BAMFs around. However, there is no finishing blast and the time stays in slow motion (and the screen stays darker). I assume this is happening if there are too many enemies around (migth be some sort of timeout issue).

Ok, for this mod, you only need to extract the files in the respective folders in C:\Program Files\Activision\Marvel - Ultimate Alliance.

For inserting more characters, you need NBA2K's tool, xmlbcui, be sure to download from the main page tutorial on how to replace characters, then read the instructions carefully.

Ok I think I have it figured out. I was just wondering where the save files are so I could delete them because when I get to the first shield point it goes back to the desktop. Also do you have to de/re-compile with each character or only once.

For me, the saves are located in:
..\Documents\Activision\Marvel Ultimate Alliance\Save
but I think it could be "My Documents" for you.

Crash To Desktop... Did you start with a new game using default stats? What did you do when you got the first save point? (after talking to Nick Fury)

EDIT: Loading your previous game saves may crash the game, depending on what characters you have in the game save.

Re-compile... No. If you are adding a new mod later, then you will need to edit the herostat again at that time.

The menu sounds are there, but that's it.  And we can't use the DLC sounds because they are encoded in .XMA format, which only the Xbox 360 can read.  We could have someone hook up a 360 to their PC to rip some of the voiceovers.  By turning down the music we could get a few of the lines we need.  Stuff like "Yeah" (when switching characters), the character menu sounds, and the Xtreme yell.  Other stuff like taunts wouldn't work 'cause you'd get sounds of things breaking, exploding, etc. mixed in, and that would be really tough to edit out.  My friend has a 360 and loves to spend money on games, so I bet I could convince him to buy MUA Gold Edition and let me hook it up to my PC to rip stuff.  That's waaaay down the road however.

Magneto, Sabretooth, Cyclops and Nightcrawler all have their XML2 sounds, so no problems there.  If anything we would just rip the Xtreme yell by the method mentioned above then insert it into the ZSS.  Probably won't bother with it though.

Hulk will probably just be a mixture of ripped sounds from other games since there's plenty. (Hulk, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, etc)

Venom has a few different games with where he talks (I'm thinking of the old Playstation 1 Spider-Man games particularly) so that's a start, but I dunno how much VO would actually fit what we need.  I suppose instead of Venom actually yelling "Symbiote Sludge" during his Xtreme we could get him screaming or something.

Doom's got all his PC voice stuff plus stuff from the cutscenes, so that's a little bit of something.  Again probably not a full voice set, but we could get enough to do something with.  If I rip some stuff by hooking up a 360 to my sound card I can get random voice stuff.

Hawkeye's sounds are present in the Xbox version of MUA (except for his Xtreme callout -- on the Xbox he just yells "WoooHoo!", but I assume on the 360 he actually yells "Rocket Ricochet").  BliZZ has me working on porting over the Xbox soundset (which will take awhile due to doing it manually).

I think that pretty much covers it.  In the end Venom and Doom are probably the only ones that are going to have an incomplete sound set, but they'll have plenty to make the experience fun.

You gotta consider BG noise, etc, is gonna distort and lower the quality of any sounds from there.

Teancum forgot to mention Captain Marvel, Ronin, and Black Widow, who are all in the same boat as Hawkeye. All sounds present, but no xtreme.

As far as the Hulk is concerned, try using 110_supersoldier.igb (renamed to ****_hulk.igb of course), and the running problem is solved. You lose his menu animations, but hey, nothings perfect..

The maximum number of characters you can have at the same time is 27. If you want to try other characters, you'll have to replace some of the ones already in. Please refer to the main page tutorial on how to replace characters, or go to the "heroselect" folder in your main MUA directory and check the read_me there. Good luck!
