Title: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: Teancum on January 07, 2008, 08:47AM
This mod will update your XML2 files with sounds for the following characters:

Black Panther
Black Widow
Blade
Captain America
Captain Marvel
Daredevil
Dr Strange
Elektra
Ghost Rider
Hulk
Human Torch
Invisible Woman
Jubilee
Magma
Moon Knight
Mr Fantastic
Ms Marvel
Psylocke
Silver Surfer
Spider-Woman
Thing
Thor
Beast
Emma Frost

This is mostly for modders, as you'll have to reference these in your herostat.

Also, you get power sounds (no voices) for
Nick Fury
Spider-Man

I would have added pretty much every character, but ZSM Editor didn't auto calculate numbers after 5000 files, plus that gets to be a lot to load into memory.

The XML1 sounds don't seem to work and also i don't see Emma Frost's sounds in the package
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: Teancum on January 07, 2008, 04:19PM
They probably work, but unless the author of a particular XML1 mod has changed the powerstyle and herostat to reference the right files you won't notice.  Emma Frost's power sounds already exist in-game, so I just added her voice.  That's why I said it's mostly for modders.

the xavier menu's voice only call Emma and Beast when they are renamed like this:
emma_frost_hero and beast

only jubilee (and sometimes beast) has a menu callout...

Psylocke was called out in the menu in my game. So was beast. Dunno about Emma. Psylocke doesn't seem to have a voice, though.

only with the x_voice file...

maybe because it's too big...

Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: shadow on April 28, 2008, 05:08AM
I was able to open the backup x_voice.zss file and I downloaded beast, jubilee, psylocke and emma frost voices sounds from some MUA MODS. All I need now is the announcer and the break sounds to compile them to the x_voice for XML2. And I need to know how to add files to the x_voice.zss file, because it's totally different from MUA...

Does anyone know any command we can change for the voices sounds work just like in MUA (ex.: [character]_v.zss)?
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: Teancum on April 28, 2008, 08:30AM
It's all documented in the Knowledge Base.  The only difference is that you have to manually create each and every hash for every sound in x_voice withe F3 button.  That's why I haven't done it yet.  It takes ages and ages and ages to do in XML2.

I've already read this discussion thousands of times:

I want to help, but I need instructions more simple to do it...
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: nodoubt_jr on May 03, 2008, 07:51PM
im also having trouble adding the voices to the x_voice, so far ive only been able to add and change the name for menu callouts (they work) but other sounds dont seem to want to play. i get that we manually have to enter the hashes using F3 and then replacing the current hash with the new one.

ive done these:
CHAR/PSYLOC_M/XTREME
CHAR/magma_m/XTREME
CHAR/jubile_m/RESPAFFIRM/***RANDOM***/0
CHAR/jubile_m/RESPAFFIRM/***RANDOM***/1
CHAR/jubile_m/RESPAFFIRM/***RANDOM***/2
CHAR/jubile_m/RESPAFFIRM/***RANDOM***/3

but they dont result in in-game sounds (and yes the chracters already have the soundir as jubile_m, psyloc_m, magma_m) i'll keep looking to see if i can fix this, maybe im missing or misunderstandign something

edit: btw i did get power sounds to work, so at least thats a good thing.
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: shadow on May 03, 2008, 08:08PM
You've gotta exchange char/[character]_M/[event] for char/[character]_V/[event] to make the sounds work. It worked for me...
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: nodoubt_jr on May 03, 2008, 08:26PM
oh thanks that work, ok so i guess i'll fix up the xml1 characters and add Avalanche and Marrow.  Emma Frost sounds are going to go under emmaf_m and Beast under beas_m his sounds dont conflict with the in games character sounds.
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: Teancum on May 03, 2008, 08:44PM
There's a maximum of 5000 entries, and it's very close to that now.  That's also why I didn't add more sounds.  You might be able to go over that, but the program won't automate it for you.

I had the same problem. So I used the original x_voice in the game and added the sounds from some [char]_v files I found in some MUA mods for jubilee, psylocke, beast and emma. I was going to release it as soon as someone send me the files I haven't... But, well, if I can help some way, let me know.

Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates

I've also got some sounds for Angel all taken from his in-game VO.  I've got Dazzler, Havok, Marvel Girl and Morph sounds set up too.  I just never inserted them because of the 5000 sound limit.  HOWEVER, if you hex edited your Marvel Universe version of XML2 to look for Z_VOICE instead of X_VOICE then you could have a separate soundset for the Marvel characters, and the regular one for X-Men.
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: nodoubt_jr on May 04, 2008, 11:25AM
@Teancum: the original x_voice has 4282, im currently adding around 463 (the xml1 characters, avalanche and marrow and maybe blob if its different from the one already present in xml2). that leaves 255, so if you want me to add Angel and the others i think i may be able too. (and in the end i'll probably be using less then 463 since there are couple of sounds that i think arent used in game like the "incomming" or "solo_begin" "solo_end", i maybe using these for menu_breaks, since i havent found any in the xml1 xbox x_voice.  did i miss them or are they not there?)

edit: nevermind, im not doing blob, he's sounds in xml2 are already pretty good and about the same ammount, that goes the same for mystique.

she already in it, sorry i didnt make myself clear.  The ones i added and are fully working are: Beast, Jubilee, Magma, Emma Frost, Marrow, Avalanche, and Psylocke.  With additional menu call outs for Angel (all the other xml1 characters also have menu call outs).  So that part is done, im just waiting on a couple of things and then i'll release it.

New x_voice: http://rapidshare.de/files/39326686/XML2_Sound_Update.rar.html (108mb)

just replace the x_voice in the Sounds folder and add the power sounds
(x_voice goes in Sounds/eng/x/_/ , the rar is already setup exactly as they should go, so just drag and drop)

x_voice includes:
Menu Call outs by Professor X for: Magma, Jubilee, Emma Frost, Angel (must be Angel_hero, dont worry matt is updating that mod with the new name), Beast, Psylocke
Menu Call Outs by Danger Room computer for: Blob, Marrow, Mystique, Avalanche, Multiple Man, Havok (must be havok_hero)
Voices for Magma (magma_m), Jubilee (jubile_m) , Emma Frost (emmaf_m) , Beast (beas_m), Avalanche (avalan_m), Marrow (marrow_m), Psylocke (psyloc_m) (all taken from XML1)
Menu Breaks for the XML1 playables and Mystique.

for Emma Frost the sounddir must be "emmaf_m" and for Beast the sounddir must be "beas_m", these mods were released with different sounddir in the herostat, just change it in the herostat "sounddir = xxxx_m ;"

also included in the pack are powers sounds.  These are temporary, just so we have the jump, death, pain, etc sounds.  These will be updated later on with a full power sound set in the individual mods by the individual modders (matt has already done this for Mystique, which you can find in the Mystique mod).

Credit and Thanks:
Winstrol for the excellent tool, zsmeditor
Teancum for the great guide
matt710 for the Mystique menu break
shadow for the awesome tip to use _v instead of_m

let me know of any problems, and expect some future updates.  Everything works find for me, the voices and call outs work, and liked i mentioned before we are working on updating the mods with power sounds (which is really easy with winstrol's zsmeditor).

Yeah i kind of figure since you are changing angel to angel_hero, and mystique was changed to mystique_hero, that havok also would be change to _hero once the mod was updated.

i havent played with the game with sound on in such a long time, but i had to here the new voices, especially Psylocke's and Jubilee's.

Okay, so I am starting an attempt at modding sounds and I need a little info:

1 Does the x_voice need to be altered for the power sounds to work? I need to know because currently I have the original x_voice that comes with the game and can't download the update by nodoubt_jr from rapidshare (IP issues).

2 Do the sound files HAVE TO come from the game or can I use sounds from different places?

help would be appreciated. Also, can anyone suggest a good program to convert 8-bit WAVs to 16-bit WAVs? Thanks
Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates
Post by: shadow on May 13, 2008, 12:26PM
The power sounds are in the [character]_m.zsm files. They don't need to be compiled to the x_voice.zss file.

Voices (such as Xtreme yell and "Too Heavy" and "I don't have enough power") should be in the x_voice. They don't work like they do in MUA ([character]_v.zss files).

About the software you requested, I don't have a idea.

Actually, there is a MUA mod that have both power sounds (magma_m.zsm) and voices (magma_v.zss). But you'll have to compile voices to x_voice.zss file by yourself, as you can't download the updated file by nodoubt_jr.

I can split the voice pack into smaller chunks so you can download each part at a time, if you want. But, you will still have to download the whole pack again in the next update. :P

EDIT: Splitting it up, will upload in a sec.

Title: Re: XML2 Sound Updates

ok we can have both power sounds and voices in one file separate from the x_voice.  ok i'll use magik as an example.

first set up the power sounds into: magik_m.zsm
then add the voice lines to that same file, magik_m.zsm, but making sure the hash points to magik_v (power sounds point to magik_m, voices to magik_v)
once you have everything in one file you save it as: magik_m.zss (it must be zss, if its zsm it messes up the sounds in game, for example the character you compiled the voice into zsm might say "yes" once, after that no one in game says anything, it messes up how the game looks for voice lines i guess.  Anyways zss not zsm.
then the file would be place were you would put the power sounds (sounds/eng/xxx)

and then you can have both power sounds and voice lines in one file.  so far i havent run into any complications, so i dont know if it will lead to any problems.

also before i figured this out, i had updated the x_voice. the latest version of the x_voice has Emma Frost's menu call out fixed (the other one was messed up), Xtreme yell for Avalanche, and i added voices for Havok (havok_m) from XML1, Angel (angel_m) using Human Torch (thanks shadow for the idea), Shadowcat (shadoc_m) using Invisible Woman.  I will upload that version later on today.  This will probably be the last update for the x_voice, since now we can add voice lines to a different file.

lol, yeah iammingy editing that big ass file was a pain in the ass, plus with the addition of the latest characters theres only room for one more full voice set.

x_voice update 3 (110 mb)
download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7XOR04UT
latest version now here http://marvelmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=2924.0

new to this version:
* fixed up Emma Frost's menu call out, the one in the previous version was sorta messed up
*added xtreme yell for Avalanche
* added Havok's XML1 voice (havok_m)
* added voice for Angel (angel_m), MUA Human Torch voice
* added voice for Shadowcat (shadoc_m), MuA Invisible Woman voice

Read the post above this one
This will probably be the last update for the x_voice, new voices will probably be in there own individual files.

(x_voice goes in Sounds/eng/x/_/ , the rar is already setup exactly as they should go, so just drag and drop)

x_voice is the only file that will do menu callouts.

Is using ZMS editor the only way to apply the sounds in x_voice?  If so, I know it's for mods, but is it possible for a readme or something to be provided?  Spider-Man was not meant to be mute!!!

What I mean is, do I just need to replace the file?

yes, the new x_voice needs to the replace teh old x_voice.  dont worry, it doesnt take anything away from the original x_voice, it just adds new voices, menu callouts.

Hey nodoubt_jr

Can the "XML2 Sound Update v3" file be used for MUA? I mean, replacing the original one? I have installed the official pack V4 and the XML2 mod pack on my MUA!

TKS!

yes, but you would be missing menu call outs for some MUA default characters and team bonus call outs, and some other stuff.  personally i wouldnt do that as all those mods already come with their voices.
