Title: Emma Frost Release (Updates in XML1 release thread)
Post by: DJay Saint on March 06, 2007, 07:06PM
Here is the Emma Frost I have said I have been working on.  After a few bug fixes, I'm throwing out the files for people to play with.  It is by no means 100% done, but it is very playable.  The purpose of releasing it now is to get feedback on bugs and anything else someone finds wrong with Emma.  For now, you can download her here:

Alpha Version (http://www.momoshare.com/file.php?file=2e65deb3701221392b846f96f57ff0ad)
Beta v1.2 (http://www.momoshare.com/file.php?file=21819c7c7531306b5f83754936a42851)
Beta v1.3 (Most up to date) (http://www.momoshare.com/file.php?file=f4f1d6c165ad16c8c3ec340de610ba40).

Compilation of known bugs:

1.  When entering a new section of the story, Emma seems to lose her power list.  For now, just go to an Xtraction point, and go to the change team menu.  Her powers will show up again.  I do not know why this is, and am trying to figure out a way to prevent this from happening.  FIXED.  I forgot the hero_xml pkgb...  :P

2.  Icons display improperly.  FIXED.  I just goofed on a powerstyle definition, putting the same icon in twice.

3.  Emma's Mind Control is buhroken.  FIXED.  I upped the cost so it can't be used 30 times a second, changed the AI reuse time, and changed the conversion to chance.

EDIT:  Note this is in the XML2 forum because as of right now, this mod is only for XML2, not MUA.  This will be converted for MUA eventually.

Did you overwrite another char, or put her in that elusive 21st slot? If it is choice no. 2, then that may be the cause of the power issue: the other slots are defined in the .exe.

Thanks, BTW!

/goes to add Emma to his game :P

Post by: DJay Saint on March 06, 2007, 07:41PM
I added her to that elusive 21st slot.  Everything is working great except for the disappearing powers act.  I numbered everything 121.  I'll have to see if I can't hack the .exe then (if possible).  Otherwise, I guess I'll have to deal with going to an Xtraction point every time I enter a new level.  :D   I'm in the works of putting the rest of her powers in (just a matter of copy and paste).  Once I finish the icons for those, I'll release an updated Talent, Powerstyle, and Icons.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: BliZZ on March 06, 2007, 07:45PM
Ah! Trouble! Fury was 121! This'll phuck up the Sentinel level, for sure.  :-X

(psst... you coulda just numbered her 90, then you wouldn't have to duplicate that 1 costume 2x; plus, you wouldn't have had to make your own dialogue head  :D)
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: DJay Saint on March 06, 2007, 07:51PM
Huh?  0.o   I don't see a 121 for Fury at all in my Actors folder, which is why I stuck her in slot 121.  The next best thing that resembles it is 0121, which is far from 12103.  And I didn't make my own dialogue head...  I just copied the one already in the game.  ;)  (Emma's NPC is 90, so if I had named the playable to 90, I thought it would phuck her up during the mission she runs around with you?)  That dupe costume was a placeholder, as I was originally using 12101 for the X-box skin to compare/contrast.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: BliZZ on March 06, 2007, 07:57PM
So long as her NAME isn't the same, it won't phuck it up. (check out how Raven did Pyro/Toothy) And there is no 121 in Actors b/c Fury don't have a skin, he has an hud_head/npc char.

EDIT: PS, I MAY have found the source of the power issue: your pkgs link to ps_frost, NOT ps_emmafrost, as they should.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: DJay Saint on March 06, 2007, 08:02PM
Meh...  I'll change that when I release the updated talent/powerstyle.  Is the defaultman slot free game (no adverse effects if I torch him or anything in favor of someone else?)?  If so, that's the slot I'm going to use for Psyloche when I get around to doing her.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: BliZZ on March 06, 2007, 08:07PM
No, overwrite defaultman and whoever is at the bottom *cough*Emma*cough* will be dropped. When I say 21 char limit, I mean 21 char limit. Unless we can change where that is defined (which we likely can't), that means dropping a char. Personally, I'd ditch the Prof for Betsy (and IronMan/Deadpool (who aren't X-Men!) for Beast/Jubes, but that's a story for another day :P)

EDIT: Quick Icon Problem:

As you can see, the in-game icon for her 2nd attack is off.

EDIT2: After playing for a second, I suggest that you change her 'Mind Control' to a percent chance to convert, not a 'will convert'. While she was AI controlled, she spammed it 3 times in a row and a whole room was allies/unkillable  :o
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: DJay Saint on March 07, 2007, 08:02AM
Just a powerstyle definition.  I declared both icons the same on accident.  As for the mind control, I'll up the power usage since it's kind of broken (hence testing), change to percentage, and will modify the AI reuse time so she doesn't use it 3 times in a row.  :P  The new talent files are done, and I just have to finish the powerstyle for the talents.  Once that is done, I'll redefine the icon locations.  Should be done later today.  Oh, and where in the .exe are the slots defined?  I opened it up with a resource hacker and have not found anything useful yet...  and I have no idea what to look for with the hex editor.

QuoteEDIT: PS, I MAY have found the source of the power issue: your pkgs link to ps_frost, NOT ps_emmafrost, as they should.

A DEFINITE oversight...  I have not modified the pkgs since I first started the mod, and decided I would rename her power style to ps_emmafrost, because the NPC is linked to ps_frost...  I'm glad someone else is paying attention, because apparantly I'm not...  :D  Will change that and get it out pronto.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1

QuoteOh, and where in the .exe are the slots defined?
If we knew THAT, do you think we'd be <censored>ing around with the NPCSTAT substitution? MUA and XML2 share this problem in all respects :D

Woohoo. Looks like I'm gonna have to break out the XML2 and re-install. It'll be great to play with Emma. Looking forward to Psylocke too. Perhaps someday I'll learn how to do this stuff, I have too much free time on my hands these days...

The pack only contains one skin while the herostat lists three skins, where can i get the other two.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: Noelemahc on March 07, 2007, 12:47PM
In the XML skin megapack, I assume. They're PS2 skins, so despite the fact that the pack is formatted for MUA, these two will work in XML2.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.1
Post by: DJay Saint on March 07, 2007, 12:53PM
I was using two skins to compare differences between the x-box skin and the ps2 skin.  The third one was Emma's NPC skin used in the game, which I just copied and renamed.  It's skin 9001 or something like that.  For now the herostat definitions are just placeholders until I get time to make more.  When that time comes, I'll just throw them in the actors folder and not worry about having to define them in Herostat, since they are already done now.

Quote from: BliZZEDIT: PS, I MAY have found the source of the power issue: your pkgs link to ps_frost, NOT ps_emmafrost, as they should.

After updating the references in the pkgs, I've come to the conclusion that it didn't even matter.  The power issue is still there.  *shrugs*

After moving her to slot 90 and adding _hero to her skelie/talent/pkgs (ala pyro/toothy), I can tell you that that works perfectly. You don't even need to rename her ps (unless you really want to)

PS: If you want help with Betsy, I'd be willing to convert her effects; which would leave you with just talent/ps/ent files to do :P

Converting the effects for Betsy would be hawt, that way I can get to work on her soon.  Thanks for converting the effects for Emma (I used quite a bit of Jean's too).  :D

I put Emma in slot 90, and I still have problems with the disappearing powers whenever I advance to a new level in the story.

Here is the updated version:
Beta v1.2 (updated) (http://www.momoshare.com/file.php?file=21819c7c7531306b5f83754936a42851)

I fixed bugs with effects, completed her power list, and have finished the icons.  Oh, and now the menu portrait doesn't show up.  *shrugs*  I'm sure it's an oversight, but after hours of working on talents and powerstyles today, I think it's good enough for now.

EDIT:  Forgot about the phuking characters_heads.pkgb...  Poof, I got a portrait again.  ::)

Nice, she plays good and everything (based on my 10 minutes or so of playing ;)). Good job.

BTW, it may be a few days before I get to Betsy's effects, as I have some upcoming IRL as well as Cannonball on my plate currently. You could, in the meantime, deal with Jubilee and/or Beast, as I believe all of Beast's effects are already present in XML2 and I already converted all of Jubi's effects :P Just sayin.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.2 (Updated!)
Post by: DJay Saint on March 07, 2007, 08:03PM
Emma is 100% playable now!  I fixed the disappearing powers ordeal (I forgot something really simple... man I feel like a retard right about now.)  I fixed every bug that I have found, and all the ones everyone else has pointed out too.

I am including an extra pkgb file so you can indeed see Emma's character portrait in the character select menu.  I am also including an updated team bonus file, so Pyro and Sabretooth are part of the Brotherhood, and Emma has a few also.  This mod is just about 100% done.  I can't think of anything else it needs right now, but then again, that's what testing is for.  Enjoy!

No rush.  I'm not a big fan of Jubilee or Beast, so I keep putting them off.  :P  I'll probably move onto Beast next, but for now I can get Betsy's powerstyle and talent files defined.  I can add her effects to the powerstyle when they are done.  Oh, and what do you think of the icons?  Good enough, or should I redo some?
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.3 (Updated!)
Post by: BliZZ on March 07, 2007, 08:19PM
Yeah, they are definitely good enough.

Blech, I don't think any of you understand how tedious it was converting them :P I may, when I get to Psylocke's, just go ahead and do her's and Magma's at the same time, so that all of the playables' effects are done. There will still be some boss ones (Avalanche is of interest to me), but the playables have WAY more effect files.

Absolutely no bugs encountered so far (or at least none that I've noticed).  Anyone else encounter any while playing (I'm assuming only like two or three people have actually put Emma in their game)?  Does everything work as it should?
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.3 (Updated!)
Post by: Scotimus on March 08, 2007, 04:22PM
OK i'm asking b/c I have no idea what I am doing, and b/c I love Emma and want to use her. I've actually reinstalled XML2 just to do this. When it says copy the effects files into xxxxxx what the hell does that mean? Do i just make a folder and call it emma? I might as well say that right now this whole section:

Icons:  XML2\Textures\ui\xxxxxxxx_icons1.IGB
Conversation Portrait: XML2\HUD\hud_head_xxxx.IGB
3D HUD Model: XML2\UI\hud\characters\xxxx.IGB
Character Select Portrait: XML2\UI\models\characters\xxxx.IGB
Skins: XML2\Actors\xxxx.IGB
Skeleton:  XML2\Actors\xxxx_xxxxxxxx.IGB

has me beyond confused. If there is a tutorial that I didnt see I'm sure someone will let me know in a rather sarcastic way, that seems to be the status quo on here ;-) Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Those are the directories where you put the files that are in the Emma folder (XML2 being the main X-Men Legends 2 folder)...  the xxxxx is just a placeholder for the actual file name you are using for that folder, because file names change, and so this text could be used as a standard "how to add a character", in case for some reason, you want to rename Emma's files, or put her in a new slot other than slot 90 I have put her in.  The folders you copy those files to will ALWAYS be the same though, which is why I typed out the file path.  For example, in Emma's case, xxxxxxxx_icons1.IGB is just emmafrost_icons1.IGB, which is her icon file.  You place that file in the XML2\Textures\ui folder.  The same goes with the rest of the files in that list.  The Emma folder and subfolders I have in the .zip file mean nothing.  They are only there to organize the files, and serve no other purpose than for easy finding.  You have to put those files where they need to be in the X-Men Legends main folder (I have told you where each file goes) for the mod to actually work.

Post by: Scotimus on March 08, 2007, 04:39PM
ok assuming i understood correctly. When I made the folder for the effects/char folder I just named it "emma" I'm hoping that is correct. Also is there a particular program I should be using to edit herostat.engb and herostat.xmlb? O opened them in notepad, and I wasnt sure where I should add emma, or exactly what I should be adding. Again am I just putting in "emma" or "emmafrost" ?
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.3 (Updated!)
Post by: DJay Saint on March 08, 2007, 04:53PM
The only new folder you will have to make is the effects folder for Emma, which should be named "Frost", since her powerstyles point to her effects in "Frost".  I forgot to mention that in the readme, thanks for pointing it out.

You need nba2kstuff's decompiler program (links on main page) to edit the two herostat files.  The only thing you have to do for that is copy Emma's herostat definition I included in the text files (copy them exactly, you do not have to modify it in any way unless you want to) into both herostat.xmlb and herostat.engb.  Pay attention to the two different text files I included for her herostat, as there is a difference between the .xmlb and the .engb files.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.3 (Updated!)
Post by: Scotimus on March 08, 2007, 05:07PM
ok i downloaded the tool. I selected the herostat.xmlb, and it decompiles to herostat.xml. I right click and select edit on the file. And I'm thinking, holy Chocolate egg, now what?

Hmmm maybe this is just too complicated for me.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.3 (Updated!)
Post by: DJay Saint on March 08, 2007, 05:15PM
1.  Open the program, and select File, DeCompile.  Find herostat.engb.
2.  Select File, Edit.  You should see herostat.xml.
3.  Open the Emma Herostat ENGB.txt, and copy all information in it.
4.  Paste all information from Emma's text file into herostat.xml at the very bottom.  Save herostat.xml.
5.  Select File, Compile.  IMPORTANT!  Make sure you compile it back as herostat.ENGB, NOT XMLB.  Close herostat.xml and Emma Herostat ENGB.txt.
6.  Select File, DeCompile.  Find herostat.xmlb.
7.  Select File, Edit.  You should see herostat.xml.
8.  Open the Emma Herostat XMLB.txt, and copy all information in it.
9.  Paste all information from Emma's text file into herostat.xml at the very bottom.  Save herostat.xml.
10.  Select File, Compile.  IMPORTANT!  Once again, make sure you compile it back as herostat.XMLB, NOT ENGB.  Close herostat.xml and Emma Herostat XMLB.txt.

You have new herostats.

Post by: BliZZ on March 08, 2007, 05:28PM
Dude, editing herostat.xmlb is COMPLETELY unnecessary. It is only used if the game can't find the engb (or whatever language your game is :P)

Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.3 (Updated!)
Post by: DJay Saint on March 08, 2007, 05:50PM
There should actually be 3 locked characters (4 total with Emma present, if you have not gone through the game).  Deadpool, Ironman, and Professor X.  For some reason, the new character is a locked character, with no way to unlock it except for the... unlock all characters cheat!  (I completely forgot about the locked character nonsense.)  The cheat is:  Right, Left, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Start (best done with a game pad).  If there is some other way to make her show up as unlocked without using the cheat, I'm sure BliZZ or Noel might know, though I asked already, and was told the same thing as I am telling you now.

Enter or Escape if you haven't redefined the default controls. Remember to type the direction in SLOWLY and EVENLY spaced. If you did it right, you will hear a different sound on pressing the last arrow and a beep on the START button.

Meh. I'd still like to see you do the other 4 to XML2 first, but that's just me. It'll need to be ported to MUA eventually, but the order is up to you.

For instance, Jube's effects have already been converted, and if you separate Detonation into it's own attack (like they did with Gambit), you only need add 1 attack and a boost. For MUA, that is; you probably'd want a 2nd xtreme for XML2.
Title: Re: Emma Frost Release - Beta 1.3 (Updated!)
Post by: Scotimus on March 12, 2007, 12:52PM
ok the two things that I have noticed, and these may have been addressed already are:

There is no character portrait in the character selection screen and when looking at her powers in the display during the game all i see are yellow globs, instead of the different power icons. Other then that, all seems to be working. I've had no issues using her powers and what not.

Three weeks and almost sixty downloads later.  How fares the mod?  Any complaints?

Sorry I've been procrastinating lately, I've been super busy with my classes and have my finals this week and such.  However, my next order of business coming up here real soon will be to get either Beast or Psylocke going, as well as finish ripping those skeleton files for MUA for use in XML2.  BliZZ, have you had a chance to convert Betsy's effects files yet?  If not, then I'll get going on Beast first since apparantly his effects are present in XML2.  So far, the order of business (not necessarily in this order.... :P):

0.  Finish converting MUA skeletons
1.  Fix Invisible Woman skin (it was nearly finished until I screwed it up... :()
2.  Add Beast to XML2
3.  Add Psylocke to XML2
4.  Add Polaris to XML2
5.  Add Jubilee to XML2
6.  Add Magma to XML2
7.  Add Shadowcat to XML2
8.  Add Avalanche to XML2
9.  Add Mystique to XML2
10.  Add Blob (?) to XML2 (not sure yet...)
11.  Re-release mods in one XML2 pack with all bugs (hopefully) fixed
12.  Port mods for use with MUA
13.  Help Noel crack the code for writing the x_voice.zss so we can have character voices for the XML1 characters :runaway:
14.  Try to crack the character limit in game (yeah, probably never going to happen, but who knows what a LOT of free time can do.. *shrugs*)
15. Help convert rest of XML2 characters to MUA.

Anyway, I've been working on Polaris and Shadowcat simultaneously, which is proving to be a pain in the ass (doing more than one character at once).  I don't know why I'm bothering with Shadowcat, since her walking through walls would be broken.  I've still yet to figure out how to make her do that anyhow... and I don't know what other powers to give her either.  :runaway:  Everyone's herostat definitions are made so far, so I just need to finish writing talent files and powerstyles for them.  Beast is on hold for now until I play XML1 again to get a feel for his powers (I never used him in the game... just wasn't my style I guess *shrugs*).

Hey, since you are our resident XML1 -> XML2 guy, would you mind adding Avalanche to your lists? He is my favorite brotherhood guy, and his powerset is just as developed as the XML1 playables (more so, since he has 3 attacks (and an xtreme); less so, since he has no boosts :P). (His attacks were SUPER-FUCKING-SLOW though, so you'd have to speed them up :runaway:)

PS: Avalanche's effect are close, give me an hour and I'll get to Psylocke. I'll upload those 2 at once (hopefully before the end of the day)

Sure, no problem.  I'll add him to "t3h list".  Did Blob have enough powers to make playable too?  I'll have to check.  If so, I'll rip his effects also and add him to the list so I can round out the Brotherhood (Mystique is also going on my list... I thought of some really cool ideas for her!).

Blob's effect are in XML2... only Avalanche got the shaft :banghead:

Blob also has respawn sounds! ('Yes', or something similar, when you change to him)
