To install the mod correctly:
1. Back up your files - it will overwrite your herostat and other files. It will also reset your heroselect to include only the officials, you will have to readd other characters to heroselect.
2. Place OfficialCharsBV4.rar in ..\Activision\Marvel - Ultimate Alliance
3. Right click on OfficialCharsBV4.rar and click "Extract Here".
4. If it asks you to "confirm file replace", click "Yes to all", assuming that you have backed up your files already. If you haven't backed up your files, then click "No to all" and back up your files now.
5. Let it run for a bit.
6. After it's done extracting, the mod is ready for playing.
7. The default herostat contains Colossus, Hawkeye, Hulk and Moon Knight. You can swap in other characters with Heroselect. You can find the herostat entries of other "Official" characters in herostat.CFG from the "heroselect" folder.

No.  Iammingy is working on converting Ronin, but he's either really busy with school or has left modding entirely.

However, my game crashes whenever I select any of the characters except  :colossus: and  :moonk: Any ideas why?

If you installed it right (which, really, is just extracting it right) it should look like this [after removing the four starting chars from the front of the screen] and all of the characters should be selectable.

My default select screen doesn't look like that.  When I downloaded the mod, it didn't give me a choice to extract, just gave me a .rar file that I had to unload into the seperate folders.  Should I try redownloading the mod?

Just choose to extract the rar to the main MUA directory.

Blizz, does the DLC Conversations was on .rar file too, let me know. Ok what's that mean we have to avoid Banner meating Hulk, just give example okay & show the pics.

First I would like to say this program is simply awesome! I am perplexed on one thing though. I am trying to resize Thor as I think he should be taller, but I can't seem to figure out how. I used to just use XMLBCUI to compile/decompile herostat.engb but if I do that the changes do not take effect. When I try to edit the herostat.cfg I get wacky results such as two Wolverines, one of which replaces Thor in the start of the game. How can I edit the characters now?

Eh Blizz, i think i have a problem with Venom's manny &, you should insert his new manny(by Ravencore) & his bulky version(by iammingy) before you released this mod, his new manny is big & the skin is to Official. Such as Magneto(17501,02 & 04(w/ 10100 or 17504 skin from BV3)) & Hulk(17001(from iammingy's Hulk mod),02) Huds, just keep the DLC & The Keeper's Hud, use mine. He's eyes would be as the Hud.

Scale_Factor of course, do you compiling the herostat file on XMLBCUI or herostat on HeroSelect.

I tried both and neither one worked. When I compiled herostat on XMLBCUI the editing did not change anything. When I did the same in Heroselect I got two Wolverines, one replacing Thor in the intial group. I already explained this though in my original post.

Are you out of compiling card. I got a same problem too years ago. & my other problem is Deadpool Characters, Magneto & Sabretooth Conversations & Script. Because i use talents Magneto_Hero & Sabretooth Hero. Ok, i was edit those 2.
Conversations:I Compiled just once not more
Scripts:Which one should i edit. Actor List(Magneto)(Sabretooth) or ifmagneto/ ifsabretooth

I am still trying to figure out how to scale the size of the characters with this mod. Before I could do it easily by compiling/decompiling the herostat file on XMLBCUI but that doesn't work now. I tried editing the herostat file on HeroSelect but that doesn't work either. Neither way makes any changes. How can I edit the herostat file with this mod? My only beef is with Thor, he just needs to be taller.

Seems I ran into a bug. I'm at the mission were you confront "brain washed" Jean Grey the second time. She is standing by the arcade machine and I am given no option to talk to her, the scene just freezes there. I restarted from a previous save but when I get to this part it does the same. I also notice when I tried to talk to Senator Kelly it does the same thing. Any way around this?

Captmorgan7 you must be talking about Murderworld 2. As it's said in the thread below, i think it's caused by cyclops and magneto's personalized conversations and dialogs. check out this:

Yes, that's exactly what I am talking about. However, I did not back up my files when I installed the mod. Guess that means a uninstall/reinstall huh?
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v4 RELEASED (Oct 26, 2008)
Post by: xlehnsherr on November 03, 2008, 04:43AM
There really is another way, other than reinstalling the game, but I can't remember exactly how! I erased the conversation and dialog files added from the official pack and it did work! The problem is I don't remember which are those! My advise is if you're gonna reinstall everything, before adding a mod of any kind, even just a new skin, BACKUP! Sorry can't help more than this!

Anyone can tell me what the problem is?

2. Black Panther's skins don't have anymore passives! I haven't add any skin for him!
Help anyone?

Installation Instructions: (thanks Iammingy)

No.

If you change the herostat at all (which is what heroselect does for you), then you must start a new game with default statistics.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the newest version of the Official Characters mod is being worked on, and it is AWESOME!  I don't want to steal anyone's thunder by giving things away, but finally things will be considered complete.  Only the max character/sim mission limitation stand in the way, but those are unlikely to be fixed.  Still, you'll really enjoy the new version.  We don't know when it will be released, but be excited... be VERY excited!

From the first post:

How do you open the herostat.cfg file so you can see what's in it for the herostats of the other official characters?

Have tried decompiling it but no luck!

Thanks in advance!

Edit isn't an option when you right click unfortunately :(

P.S. Really looking forward to your Rockslide, Sage and Mercury mods - Hellion and Surge are soooo much fun!

The right click and edit must be for just Vista, then.

Rockslide will probably be a while coming because of the skins. I haven't started on the other three yet.

the xmen/brotherhood race section is not used in MUA.  It is leftover from XML2.

I have a feeling wrong on Venom conversation note read w/ Mysterio. It does'nt seem same as the videos. Anyway, look at 2999 on Texture Finder. it's Wolverine & it look kind a creepy & make me puke. A ha ha ha haaa!. & i prefer this skin as the NPC of him, but it does'nt show the hud, i already change into 09 into pkgb file, can you show me how to make a Hud same while the characters are NPC. & i have a problem w/ Storm Boost for her & her allies.

As you can see, we're mostly waiting on the final Wii models to be finished, but that's no easy task.  We have some (big thanks to Dark_Mark) but Black Widow, Ronin and Swordsman's models still need to be done.  The rest of the tasks will go relatively quickly once that's done, but those are huge undertakings.  There are other fairly large things that could be done, but they are denoted with a (?), meaning they aren't 100% necessary, but it would be nice to have them done.  To make it simple, here's the same list with all completed tasks removed:

When that happens you're usually missing the skin files, or at least that's been the case for me in the past.

It also happens when added new character but didn't start new game. And still in this issue, it also occurs when something's wrong in the herostat. It's worth to take a look!

Speaking of sounds, I've got a question about Hawkeye in the V4 pack. Every time Hawkeye gets hit or injured, plays a weird sound (I think the same as one of the Iron Man's power, not sure which one). Is it a glitch? Also, when using the mid-air punch it's got no sounds at all!

Is it gonna be fixed?
TKS A LOT!

So the next release will have all the sound improved for Dr Doom?

Yes, as much as we can.  There just aren't enough sounds to do some good voice work for Doom, but powers should be better.

Now, this may be a dumb question, but many of the heroes in my change character screen are blacked out, are these guys unlocked as I progress through the game, or have I messed up the installation somehow?

I kinda like "Silent Doom". It actually fed my imagination for a possbile - but not very original - story reason for him being there fighting himself. It could be that, at the end of the game, when Doom is struck by Odin's lightinning, he is sent back in time - confined in that 'Secret Wars' armor and unable to speak - in order to fight his past self over and over again.

AWESOME mod, one of the best, but i had a little problem
when i reached act 2 in murderworld, after i beat JEAN the first time and then made my way to the tent where i have to fight her the second time, the game just blocks.
the minute i enter the tent jean doesnt talk and nothing happens, i can just look at the characters standing and nothing happens i cant start battling her. I had to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to exit the game because there was nothing i could do

I had the same problem with the mod - the murderworld conversation with Senator Kelly doesn't happen and then the game just stops when you enter the Big Top.

Please include the "fix" for this bug in the final version. Not knowing what exactly wsa the problem, I reinstalled from the DVD and then installed the NextGen (MK & Colossus) mod. Since I am playing the FF as my team, I didn't need the full Oficial Characters roster. I would like to play them eventually, though.

Do you have to start a new game everytime you change the herostat or just everytime you install a new mod? Because I didn't start the game until after all of the mods I wanted were installed, but I was having issues with heroselect so I've changed the heroselect a few times.

His strength is set to 10, and we haven't had any other issues with other installed chars as far as I can tell, just him.

Just wanted to update you all again.  I sent rips of the Wii model versions of Black Widow and Ronin to Dark_Mark, and he will be updating their textures and re-exporting them from 3DSMax.  Hawkeye is of course done, and Captain Marvel's models are also finished.  I have been getting the audio from the 360 Gold Edition of the game, so you'll have bigger and better soundsets for all 360 characters.  The crashes and freezes will be fixed, we promise.  BliZZ also created simulator disc pickups for Moon Knight, Hawkeye, Hulk and Captain Marvel, all of which will be installed by default.  No other characters will get a sim disc, though.  He's been missing-in-action since December 30th, so hopefully he comes back and gets us access to his files.

Venom will get his 360 voice and not the voice he has now so that he can have his special conversations. The voice will be modulated (made to sound lower) so he sounds more like the voice we know and love.  The current Venom voice will be opened up for another character that fits that sound.

No time frame of when the final version will be out.  I just wanted to update you.

Just outta curiosity! Since you guys are all working together, will Dark_Mark's versions Hulk, Magneto, Venom mods be incorporated to the Official Pack, or those will still be separated? Are his files being incorporated in any way?

They'll be part of the pack, but I'm sure Dark_Mark will have them as a separate download as well in case he updates them again in the future.

Meaning the ones from the previous release of the Official Pack will be replaced? 'Cause I don't know about the manikins but the skins are surely different. Really don't know about the tech parts though! And also, Dark_Mark has explained to me that in his Magneto mod there are some bug free files included, right?

The only difference between Dark_Mark's mods and the OC mod will be the skins.  For instance, Venom will have his Xbox 360 skins, while Dark_Mark's mod will have different ones.  Other than that they will be exactly the same.

Hello!  This is my first post.  I love MUA and just yesterday found out about all these mods.  I've been reading alot and trying to soak it all in.  I got the Official Character Mod installed and chose certain heros with the Heroselect program.  I still have ALOT to learn and hope to be able to contribute some day.

Right now, I have a question I hope someone can answer.  I really like Dark_Mark's mods of Hulk and Magneto.  But, what do I have to do to get those installed in place of the Hulk and Magneto that come with the Official Character Mod?

It's probably more the other way around.  There's nothing special about the mod that shouldn't make it work.

I tried to find it on the net but so far still unlucky to get one. Does anybody have a picture of what it looks like of MUA's personnage selection screen in X360? I really wanna have a look.... The character limit is hard-coded.  The Xbox 360 received an update in the executable that allowed for more characters.  There is no way to have more than 27 characters on the PC.

The newer version that has Captain Marvel pre-installed hasn't been released yet. If you wish to install Captain Marvel you'll have to replace someone in the herostat with his entry. A video tutorial about this can be found on the Marvel Mods youtube channel.

Search around the threads, there's a "how to" avoid it. If I recall it correctly, just decompile the "npcstat.engb" and add the herostat of the character you replaced, minus the "menulocation line" and then recompile it again, back up the original file, then replace it in the data folder! It worked fine for me.

EG:

   stats {
   ailevel = 1 ;
   autospend = support ;
   body = 7 ;
   characteranims = 21_nickfury ;
   charactername = Nick Fury ;
   level = 1 ;
   menulocation = 20 ; <------------ REMOVE
   mind = 8 ;
   name = NickFury ;
   playable = true ;
   powerstyle = ps_nickfury ;
   scriptlevel = 3 ;
   skin = 2101 ;
   skin_01_name = Classic ;
   skin_02 = 02 ;
   skin_02_name = Stealth ;
   skin_03 = 03 ;
   skin_03_name = Ultimate ;
   skin_04 = 04 ;
   skin_04_name = General Fury ;
   sounddir = fury_m ;
   strength = 6 ;
   team = hero ;
   textureicon = 5 ;
      Multipart {
      health = 0 ;
      hideskin = gun_left_segment ;
      }

      Multipart {
      health = 0 ;
      hideskin = gun_right_segment ;
      }

      talent {
      level = 1 ;
      name = grab ;
      }

      talent {
      level = 1 ;
      name = block ;
      }

      talent {
      level = 1 ;
      name = nickf_p1 ;
      }

      talent {
      level = 1 ;

I'm currently using this one: http://www.mediafire.com/?ozvymwyff2t

Add it in "Marvel - Ultimate Alliance/data", and back up your npcstat.engb just in case.

Besides Nick Fury, it includes Silver Surfer and Dr. Strange (I'm not sure if the same thing happens to them, but I have them in just in case), and the entries needed for Norrin Radd's side missions.

It does happen to any replaced character! I've replaced Spider-Woman, Elektra and others before, and when they have any convo, it happens! A good place to try it would be the Stark Lab!

Yes, but at least those are all optional conversations. Anyways, the same process done for Nick Fury will work for all other characters, so that's a good thing. The bad thing is that there's a limit of how many characters you can put in "npcstat.engb", though I can't remember what that limit was.

For the time being, these are all the characters that would need npcstatification:
Everyone of the original 23, minus Ms. Marvel, Human Torch and Luke Cage

In the way of updates:

  • All of the PSP/Wii models have been converted, thanks to Dark_Mark, and are 100% done.  Captain Marvel, Ronin, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Swordsman are all in-game and done (but you already knew that if you've been following this topic).

  • As of right now Iammingy's Black Widow skins won't work with our current updates to Black Widow.  I am looking into setting it up so both the actual BW skins (redone by Dark_Mark) and Iammingy's will work, so you can choose.

  • The 360 characters will have their conversation bugs fixed.  No more crashy on the new special convos.  This isn't 100% finished, but is being worked on, so I thought you should know.

  • The audio for the special conversations is being ripped by yours truly from my 360.  This is in-game stuff, so some conversations (like Magneto talking to Xavier from Mephisto's Realm) will have some background noise, but 95% of them don't.

  • Character audio is also being ripped.  For consistency's sake all characters will have their 360 voices, which means that Venom and Cyclops will sound totally different (different voice actors), and a few others will sound only slightly different (same actors, but it's been a few years since they did this role).  This means Xtreme yells, menu breaks, etc are going to be in.

  • BliZZ is back.  He has had some real life issues he's had to deal with (and is still dealing with), but he still has all of his files so once he has more time he'll be able to contribute those.  That means the four extra characters that come installed by default (Moon Knight, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye and Hulk) will all have simulator missions.

    Just wanted you guys to know we haven't forgotten about you, but real life creeps up on us, and with so much to do and only 3 of us actively working on the mod it's hard to keep up!

    There is no release date set.  This is to be the final version of the mod so we want to take our time and get it right.
with this final release character mod with it be possible just installing the sim missions for just three default characters such as hawkeye, hulk and moonknight and would that be complicated if possible? sorry for the excitement on the progress of the final version mods and just want to retain colossus :colossus:......and a quick note tnx to Xlehnsherr used his edited ncpstat.engb and it worked fine

Only the four characters that come with the mod will have sim missions, because those are the only extra simulator disc locations we have (there were four extra disc locations on the PSP).  Since we don't have more discs we can't give everyone a mission.  So if you swap out, for example Hulk for Colossus you will be able to play as Colossus, but will still be able to pick up Hulk's simulator disc.  It will not be Colossus' sim disc (he doesn't have one).

Oh, I should point out one other thing that someone else was kind enough to remind me of. Each level can only have so many conversations, so there will be times where we may have to cut a DLC conversation out entirely to get the game to work.  We'll try to make it as painless as possible.

Just wanted to thank you three for all the work you're doing on this mod and elsewhere for this site and MUA.

I was wondering if the new version will (1) correct the Jean Grey problems many people had with Murderworld and (2) replace the white mannequins that are supposed to be android copies of the heroes being played -- Hulk, Magneto, Hawkeye, and Captain Marvel currently have this problem.

Something I noticed: When Captain America is replaced, when you get in the comic mission, instead of him, the entire team goes in. That's alright... until the end of it, when arriving the last room to face Winter Soldier! After entering that room, it shows nothing at all! Kinda like when it's Iron Man facing Ultimo!

This same thing happened to me when I was using Blade's mission (and he had been replaced in my game) -- except that when I got to the boss at the end, the entire game crashed.

So, is it true that if you aren't using a particular hero in your 27 characters chosen through Heroselect, that you can't use their simulator mission either?

tight on the root, right after you uncompress the package!

If you still can't find it, go to http://www.box.net/shared/mczl81m8s1

I've uploaded a few stuff and heroselect is included.

I extracted it to a different folder (it wouldn't let me do it in the MUA folder), but do I need to move the extracted stuff there for it to work?

After you decompress the entire pack,just moving everything (minus the heroselect folder) into the MUA folder, replacing the original files (of course, backup everything before you do it) and then run heroselect!

wow, having to copy and paste every file is a lot of work...why can't you just extract it in the MUA folder?

heroselect should have it's own folder inside the pack.

Basically, he had admitted to illegally downloading the game. Discussion of any illegal activities is a warrant for a ban. We do not want anything like that happening because it could jeopardise the future of the site.

It's unfortunate, but such bannings happen quite regularly. We do not condone such activities.

i have tried reading the extra slots thread i was just wondering what had happened to teancum's experiment on adding characters on the herostat for extra sim missions(was it automatic crash or some play could be made until clicking the sim mission). Cuz i have tried adding mr marvel to my herostat with all of the available 27 menu locations being occupied by a character and assigning different menu location numbers like 35, 50 47 to mr marvel but to no avail it had an automatic crash upon clicking the mua shortcut icon.......Im just wondering if it would be a specific number menu location or its just impossible to do this kind of thing. I just wanted to be cleared of this idea cuz im prepping for the next coming mod beta version with the 4 extra sim missions(logic is keeping hawkeye, colossus, moonknight and hulk but able to play mr marvel sim mission with mr marvel of course). thnx for the time reading my querries and trying to answer them. :)

Ok, I've got a problem that I can't identify.  I installed the v4 pack a few months ago.  Everything has been working fine.  Recently I wanted to replace some of the supplied skins with some custom jobs (such as Dark_Mark's new skins for Ronin, Black Widow, and Captain Marvel, man those are awesome and I can't wait for the final release!).

When I copied the new .igb files into the actors folder there were no existing .igb files there for those characters.  I named my igb files correctly to be skins 1-4 but when I start a new game I get the skins from the pack no matter what.  All the characters still work fine.  Basically, it looks like the game is loading them from somewhere else and it doesn't matter what is in my actors folder.  This is true for most (if not all, haven't tested everyone) characters in the pack Edit: this is an exaggeration, see my next post, but not individual character mods I got elsewhere on the site (I have almost everybody from the catalog installed).  I have searched my entire MUA install folder for .igb files with those names and found none.

Since you guys made the pack I was just wondering if you had any idea what is going on here.  Also, when the final pack comes out will I have to do a complete uninstall & reinstall to get the new skins?

Post by: xlehnsherr on April 08, 2009, 06:19PM
Did you edit your herostat to use that specific skin?
Let's say: Dark_Mark's Magneto
   skin = 17501 ;
   skin_01_name = Classic ;
   skin_02 = 02 ; <------ If you wanna replace this skin, instead of [02] input the number of the relevant skin!
   skin_02_name = 80's ;
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v4 RELEASED (Oct 26, 2008)
Post by: Rusha_Feeni on April 08, 2009, 06:36PM
Yeah, I know how to edit the herostat.

I did some more testing, and it is not every character.  Just Ronin, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Dr. Doom, and Nightcrawler.  In case I wasn't clear in my earlier post, the problem is basically this:

I look in my actors folder and have no files for skins 1-4 for these characters.  The game runs just fine and is able to display all skins for every character with no problem.  I can install skins 5-X just fine, and change the herostat just fine, but since 5th and 6th skins haven't been officially released for Ronin, BW, CM, and Doom I was attempting to overwrite their original 4, which I am unable to do.  No matter what I put in the actors folder, even if I rename it to be skins 1-4, it will still display the original four skins in the game.  I am positive I am editing the herostat and compiling heroselect correctly.
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v4 RELEASED (Oct 26, 2008)
Post by: xlehnsherr on April 08, 2009, 07:00PM
Basically, for Nightcrawler, for example, his skins are 01 = 4702, 02 = 4703, 03 = 4704 and 04 = 4705. If you want to replace the original ones, I suggest you move then out of the actors folders into another place, backing them up and them rename the igb files you want in-game to eg. 4701, 4702, 4703, 4704... then, edit the herostat entry! Do the same thing with the other characters. I know it's the dumb way, it works for me!

EDIT* My guess of why the mod skins start at 02 instead of 01 is because there already is a 01 skin in-game (the nightcrawler prisioner in mephisto area) So if you're gonna replace the mod skins, replace the ones from the OC pack, starting 02.

I'm not sure about this though!
Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v4 RELEASED (Oct 26, 2008)
Post by: Rusha_Feeni on April 08, 2009, 09:02PM
Yeah 4701 is the Nightcrawler npc from the game.

I guess I am still not being clear what my problem is.  What I am saying is that in my actors folder I only have 4701.igb.  I do not have 4702,4703,4704,4705.  There are no files named 4702.igb, etc. in my MUA intall folder anywhere, yet my game still runs fine and is able to display all of Nightcrawler's skins.  If I were to place a file called 4702.igb into my actors folder, it would not display that skin file, but instead it would display what 4702 should be according to the skin image gallery.

So if I copied a Gambit skin file, renamed it 4702.igb, put it in my actors folder (I have no file there with the same name to remove), started a new game, and chose Nightcrawler, he would still appear as Nightcrawler and not Gambit.  Since there are no .igb files in my actors folder for Nightcrawler (aside from the npc one), this makes it impossible for me to remove skins 4702-4705 from the game.  It is also impossible for me to overwrite those files as I cannot find them.  My question is, where the heck is the game getting the skin files from if not the actors folder!?  It shouldn't be able to display them.  As I said before, this happens for Ronin, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Nightcrawler, and Dr. Doom.

Note:  I have no problem downloading 4706.igb from the Alternate Skin Downloads and swapping it in for 4702 using heroselect.  I can even overwrite 4706 with the Gambit skin if I wish and it displays Gambit.  I just can't overwrite 4702 because as far as I can tell, it doesn't exist.  But I want to be able to overwrite 4702-4705 to skins that I want, especially with ronin, captain marvel, and black widow when their new skins come out.  That way, for example, I can assign the new Black Widow skins to 14802-14805 like she is supposed to be, and not have to write .pkgb files to put her in 14806-14810.

Confusing enough?  This has been boggling my mind for days.  Sorry to hijack this thread but I think my computer is haunted.

Title: Re: Official Characters -- Beta v4 RELEASED (Oct 26, 2008)
Post by: Rusha_Feeni on April 08, 2009, 09:19PM
That's just it, I have searched my entire MUA install folder for 4702.igb and there isn't one anywhere in any of the folders.  Oh, and I just found out that this problem is also true for Cyclops, Hawkeye, Moon Knight (only the skin from Official Characters), and Sabretooth.  It is not a problem for Magneto, Hulk and Venom, probably since I installed different mods after the ones included in the Official Characters Pack.  I have no idea why Colossus isn't affected.  Basically every skin installed from the characters pack doesn't appear in the actors folder but still works in the game.

EDIT:  Holy Jeez, I may have figured it out.  I just expanded the search to include my entire computer and found this:

c:\Users\...\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Marvel - Ultimate Alliance\actors\4702.igb

Could this possibly be where the game is supplying the skins from?  They are all in there.  Dare I delete it?  I think I'm going to give it a try.  May need to reinstall the Characters Pack but I will update if it works.

EDIT2:  Sweet Goodness it worked!  I deleted that folder, reinstalled Official Characters Pack, and now all those .igb files appear in the actors folder as they should and I can now edit them.  Thanks xlehnsherr and nodoubt_jr for throwing suggestions at me.  Why the heck would the game be loading files from a hidden folder!?  Whatever the reason I blame it on Vista.

Actually, it's because the pack files were unpacked into that folder! And since I've never used Vista (dunno if that's your case) I can't help much more.

But here's what I do, running XP: I usually open the rar file, then select everything I want from the pack (for instance, I don't need to extract the heroselect folder because I already have that) and drag it all to a folder I create for them so I can locate them and move/copy to wherever is needed.

Post by: Rusha_Feeni on April 08, 2009, 10:20PM
Aha!  A Google search turned up my problem:

QuoteStarting with Vista, normal programs are no longer allowed to write into the Program Files path.  If a program designed for Vista attempts to write anywhere into Program Files, a permission denied error will occur.  Vista will save it to an alternate location called "VirtualStore".  This is done automatically, and usually without the knowledge of the user.  The VirtualStore location for the Program Files path is here:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files

So a word to all Vista users out there:  Follow xlehnsherr's advice and never attempt to unzip directly into Program Files!  Copy to an external folder first.  Thanks everyone for your help.  I now return this thread to everyone else.  Again, sorry for hijacking but this problem has been plaguing me for days.

P.S.  I knew it was Vista's fault!

It's a problem with the conversation files. Read this thread: http://marvelmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=1184.0
It should help you. Or faster, you could download and install Dark_Mark's Magneto mod. it's got corrections to replace the ones in the game and should correct this problem for now.

To use heroselect, you have to have the M$ ,Net Framework installed, otherwise it won't work!

Was there ever a fix for the Deadpool holding all his weapons problem?  I found a couple of herostat entries in this thread but none of them worked.  One made the weapons invisible all the time (even when he does his powers you can't see them).  If anyone could post a working herostat entry I would appreciate it.

The one from the OC pack is the most up-to-date one!

The entry from the regular herostat in the heroselect folder makes him hold all his weapons at once.  Is there a different one in another folder somewhere?

Yeah that's the one from the pack.  It's what I'm using and he still appears to be holding all his weapons all the time.  I saw the other one on pg 6 of this topic but that makes his weapons invisible all the time, even during powers.  So it appears my choices are to have the weapons always displayed or never, but not only during powers?

Dunno what could be causing this problem. I did have this problem once, but after replace the previous one with the entry from the pack, it all came back to normal.

:sigh:  Well they say problems happen in threes so hopefully after I get this one fixed I will finally get the game running how I want it and be able to play!  I'm starting to feel like the most needy member on the boards.  I'm sure I will find a solution eventually.

Nah, just like Teancum said before, the game is crash, bug free if you don't mess with! And to be honest, it's bug free even after added the OC pack. At least for me! Mine started crashing after I installed some individual mod releases...

I'm sure that's my problem.  I had OCM installed for a couple months and recently I wanted to try out some more characters.  Now I have practically everyone from the mod catalog installed and have been getting a few problems.  At least this one isn't game breaking, just a minor annoyance.

I must be cursed.  I got the Deadpool problem fixed.  Recopied all the files for Deadpool from the OCM.  (Third time)  But now I have a problem with Ronin.  Power 1 (flying nunchaku or something like that) crashes the game.   :banghead:  All other moves are fine.  What do you think, texture/model problem?

Now I really can't say what it could be... To be honest, I've never played with Ronin before. I've played with: Colossus, Moon Knight, Cyclops (fixed in my roster) , Hawkeye and Sabretooth once in a while. As for Venom, Magneto and Hulk, I ALWAYS install Dark_Mark's mods on top of the OC's.

Hey guys!  I'm new here and need some help.  I tried placing the Official CharsBV4.rar into the folder but when I right click there is no option to extract.  Did I do something wrong?  It's just an .rar file not a zip file.  IDK

Thanks

.zip or .rar is pretty much the same if you're using winrar.
Just open the compacted file (double click it) then select everything in it and drag (it will decompress and copy automatically) to C:\program files\activision\marvel - ultimate alliance\ and replace everything!

And to shorten it, install Dark_Mark's Magneto mod (please use the search function) on top of everything else you installed to correct this problem.

OTHER NEEDS
   -Replace Colossus with Captain Marvel as a starting character, including replacing Colossus' item drops w/ Marvel's :done:
   -x_voice: Shaba Ultimates, Magneto, etc sounds fixed *Teancum*
   -Xbox 360 sounds ripped *Teancum* (in progress)
   -Fix conversation files (including references to Magneto & Sabretooth) :done:

The biggest thing that needs to be done is that we need someone to take the lead and actually work on getting all this stuff together in a nice package.  That means extracting the V4 installer to a temporary folder and to start updating that folder with what's seen above.  If you need any files ask any Marvel Modder (but ONLY if you want to work on the project, just asking for them won't help make your game any better, because they need to be all put together and packaged to make a difference).

At first, make sure all the folders and files are in the right places. Make sure all files are where they're supposed to be (c:\program files\activision\marvel - ultimate alliance\) . And also, did you start a new game with default stats? Always, always start new game using default stats, when you install new mod or change your roster.

I put the files into the UA directory but when I run Hero select, it doesn't allow me to do anything. I did change the herostat.cfg file to point to the right directory in Vista.

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Activision\\Marvel - Ultimate Alliance\\Data

Yet I go run the program and everything is greyed out.

In the run game part here is the address it shows:

C:\Program Files\Activision\Marvel - Ultimate Alliance\MUA.exe

I did change it to"

C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Marvel - Ultimate Alliance\MUA.exe

Still everything is greyed out.

Any ideas anyone?

Also, on a side note, I am running:

Intel Core 2 Q9300 Quad core @2.50Ghz per core
Nvidia 9800 GT 512MB
4 GB Ram
Vista 64

Any help would be appreciated.

Good news: Teancum decided to capture the remaining voices for Xbox 360 conversations. This means that the next version of the pack will finally be semi-complete.
Bad news: Release of the pack will be delayed until all the voices are captured, so don't expect it before the end of the month.

I am completely new to this. Will the OfficialCharsBV4.rar open in Windows Vista because It looks as if it is a program that cannot be opened in Vista and I am not sure if it will open properly.

I'm running Vista and don't got this problem. Unpack the OC pack into some other place like D:\ or desktop or anywhere you can find it easily. Then, copy the folder into your MUA game directory. When the system asks for permission, just allow it!

Is there any way to make Magneto walk/run normally, instead of doing that weird float thing?

Final pack status update:
Bad news: Teancum did not manage to capture the voiceovers for any conversations past Mephisto's realm. This means they will not be included in the pack.
Good news: He did capture new voices for Doom, Hulk and Venom as well as menu callouts and announcer voices. Apart from this, I went over all characters and fixed issues like missing sounds, powerstyle problems, etc. Adding this to the fact that most characters will be getting new models (PSP Exclusives, Hulk, Magneto, Venom) or skins (Hawkeye, Cyclops), this may well be the biggest single update to the pack in its history :D
Right now we have no ETA, as we are waiting for Blaw to finish his Silver Savage skin. However, unless the sky falls down on us, I would like to release it late May/early June.

I'm waiting with mouth-watering anticipation.

There is one small request I would like to make, if no one objects. Is it possible to remove the sound Hawkeye makes when he gets hurt by attacks? Its not a normal sound, its sounds like a rocket gone mad! It gets irritating when he gets assaulted again and again! Again, thanks for all the hard work!!!

It appears one of his unused power sounds was improperly assigned as a pain voice. Needless to say, I have already corrected it and it will be fixed in the final pack. Still, it makes one wonder how it managed to stay unnoticed for such a long time.
If you find any more errors, please report them here.

There's way too many variables with what you've added - you'll need to be more specific on what characters you've changed and what skins you've added :scratchhead:

i cant give an exact time as to how long the FIRST version of this mod took to make, but i know it was a hell of a long time. And im also pretty sure that the latest versions have taken even longer. In all honesty, if i was one of the modders who spent countless hours trying to make this mod the best damn thing it can be, and i read something like that, i think i would feel like shooting someone...

As far as im concerned you guys are legends :)

Patrib:

Check the folder settings. Sometimes the answer may lie in the location of the game. If all else fails, relax, and try the modding steps all over again and carefully read the instructions(They are everywhere). These mods are a result of hard work and are in no way failures.

Dark_Mark:

This is not exactly a bug, but it kind of bothers me. Whenever I use the Official characters to fight against the Arcade Androids(the shape shifting ones) in Murderworld, they don't show the character but a white model. It happens for all other mods as well. Is there a way you can fix this?

Re-install the game and re-add the characters. If it still doesn't work then there's something wrong with your computer - not the mod

I've experienced this as well -- but only for certain mods.  Someone once suggested to "simply" substitute a hero you don't like and want to take out some aggression on for the figureless white androids....  But, they gave no instructions on how/where to make these alterations.  Some of the heros that have the white androids are in the Official Character Pack.

I have investigated this issue and as far as I know the androids are hardcoded (i.e. there are no scripts or packages that say which model to use for which hero). The white models are defaultmen, who are used when the game does not recognize a particular hero. The only solution I can think of would be swapping the defaultman model with someone else (e.g. the unused MUA Sentinel, who would somewhat fit the Android theme).

While we're on that, this happens only with your Magneto mod! As far as I've played with all mods I've installed, that's the only hero that has that default man instead of the actual hero android!

The Arcade androids take their internal IGB numbers (133xx) from whatever four heroes' numbers are being played at the time.  New meshes don't have internal IGB numbers like the shipped meshes do, so it can't find em' and goes with the default.

Regarding Murderworld (and the training simulations that take place there), I am experiencing an interesting situation.  When the heroes meet up to battle with their "android" look-a-likes, well, they don't all look alike.  Some of them do, while others look like different characters, while still others look like white, ghostly figures.  Here is a list of the mods I have tried so far and what look-a-like appears to go with them:

Quicksilver       Himself
Vision            Himself
Namor             Himself
Sabretooth        Himself
Nightcrawler      Himself
Cyclops           Himself

Angel             Thor
Dazzler           Black Widow
Banshee           Dr. Strange
Cable             Thing (I think)

Captain Marvel    White ghostly figure
Hulk              White ghostly figure
Magneto           White ghostly figure
Venom             White ghostly figure
Beast             White ghostly figure
Hawkeye           White ghostly figure

Another thing you might want to fix is the black widow powerset. Red Dawn gives her +100 (not +100%) defense plus -10% damage taken, which makes her absolutely unvulnerable for 3 minutes. Controlled Burst does waaay too much damage, over 700 per shot O.o''. She's way too overpowered in my opinion.

Oh, and sometimes (maybe this just happens with me) her guns are in hand when she's not using them (including a pistol she never uses), even in safe places. That still happens even after I substituted her powerstyle for the new one dark_mark released.

I will have to check this, but I am pretty sure that is how her official powerstyle works. And since this is OFFICIAL Characters, I don't know if we should do anything about it.

I agree with this, unless theres like a major mistake like a wrong label it should be left alone so its "official", as close to as it was to the original version.
