Title: MUA1 Wii - Special Edition [progress - CANCELLED]
Post by: Teancum on September 18, 2009, 05:32AM
So I was more than a little bummed when I found out that MUA2 PS2 files wouldn't end up working in MUA1 Xbox, so I wanted to find a new project.  Given that I have a close friend with a Wii, I'm announcing the Marvel Ultimate Alliance: Special Edition mod for the Wii.

CURRENT PROGRESS: 10% (planning and research)

FEATURES:

29-33 characters (depending on engine limitations - I haven't found the max amount of characters yet on the Wii)
Potential candidates for characters (So I can keep track of who might work on the Wii)
Power upgrades
Technical Info/Research

how would you put it on the wii?

You'd need a modded Wii.  You can softmod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Softmod) a Wii with just an SD card and a copy of Zelda.  It doesn't hurt your Wii, and you can play modded games.

I can contribute, if you'd like. I was actually thinking about doing this myself as I'm considering getting a Wii soon.

That'd be awesome.  We'll collaborate!  Maybe we'll even get rid of Fury to add one more slot.
Title: Re: MUA1 Wii - Special Edition [progress - 10%] (poll added)
Post by: BliZZ on September 18, 2009, 09:22AM
Yeah, I think Fury, Widow, and especially Ronin should potentially be dropped in favor of characters who aren't story-breaking (in Fury/Widow's case)/aren't incredibly minor & forgettable (in Ronin's case)

And how about adding Scarlet Witch to the "potential" list? She'd add another female to the roster, she'd add another Avenger to the roster, and she's already got a full powerset/skins/sounds worked out thanks to XML2
Title: Re: MUA1 Wii - Special Edition [progress - 10%] (poll added)
Post by: Teancum on September 18, 2009, 10:31AM
Well, at the moment my potentials list is limited to models that can be found on either the Wii or the Gamecube, except for Punisher and some random skins, who are sortof experiments to see if PS2 skins'll work.

Incidentally, why drop Ronin?  She's a lot of fun, she just needs some tweaking.  Plus aside from sounds she's done, so I already know I can get her in.
Title: Re: MUA1 Wii - Special Edition [progress - 10%] (poll added)
Post by: BliZZ on September 18, 2009, 10:37AM
Yeah, but Scarlet Witch is on the Gamecube

I was thinking Ronin should be dropped because she's just SUCH a minor character and there are so many other, bigger name characters. If you want to keep her in then I'm up for it, but I probably won't help much on her files :P

Additionally, I think the "Insulated" Spider-Man skin from his fights with Electro would make a better fourth skin than the Unlimited one. I put a request for it in the skin request thread

Need my help with the boosters of Spidey? Since I already created the symbiote booster for pc? I'll also speed up the Flame On booster I was working on (the boost is working but I need to do the skins & icons..)

That'd be great.  My first task is to find the character limit on the Wii though (if there is one).  33 Wii characters would be flat-out cool, if I say so.

@BliZZ -- the great thing is that as long as someone has their own Wii ISO they can install their own Wii-specific characters we build, it just takes a few more steps (same with the Xbox).  So if you want to do Scarlet Witch we can totally do that.  In fact, it might be best to build as many as possible, then provide the sounds, assetsfb.wad, Heroselect and herostat.engb so they can pick their team, load it into the assetsfb.wad file, load that into the ISO, burn and play.

Post by: Teancum on September 18, 2009, 11:56AM
Sorry to double post all, but I'd be interested to hear who else ya'll might have in mind if we 1) could have more than 33 characters and make them 'hidden selectables' like on the Xbox, or 2) went the Heroselect route and let you choose your team before building your ISO.

Some other thoughts for a well-rounded set of characters:
Iron Fist (pending on whether DXT3 boltons work)
Dazzler
Longshot
She-Hulk
Bishop
... and if I ever actually do finish her, Black Cat.

Do you have any idea what the character limit is?

as for your q:
Might as well do Doom, since all of the other exclusives are listed there
Beast
Vision
Bullseye
Cable

Modded MUA in the Wii? Cool, that's amazing ^_^
As for the new characters I would suggest:

-Dazzler. Tetragene's mod is amazing.
-She Hulk.
-Emma Frost. Either Matt's booster or the upcoming Burning Rage's mod.
-Cable.
-Your Black Cat mod would be really cool.
-Cyclops.
-Doom. (Agree with Blizz).
-Iron Fist.

I also would recomend to keep Black Widow, I don't know, but to me is one of the most amazing characters in the game, cool powers, cool voice and funny quotes :)

Of course I would say Jean especially as it pleases the army of Phoenixtopians and adds a female but you have crossed her out.

My suggestions (fan base)

Jean
Gambit
Magneto
Punisher
Rogue

And I don't see a need for Doom as he breaks the story more than others crossed out.

If you drop any characters I say Ronin cause not many know her or care for her and she isn't popular.

Blade as no one really wants him either.

Fury still breaks the story and maybe Black Widow but she is actually fun so maybe no

Story breakers are out by default.  Hulk is easy to fix since he can unlock by defeating MODOK.  If someone wants to springboard off of what I'm doing that's cool, but I won't be doing story breakers.  So I guess in that sense I should cross out Cyc too.  Widow's in there because she's already done, but if we get time to find someone to fill her spot, cool.

Colossus is the same as Cyc.. Psylocke too, but she's just awesome :P

Yeah she is but oh well.

In that case I suggest Shulkie, Iron Fist, Punisher, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Rogue

Also can't NPCs be contained by scripts.

Examples:

Jean - make her unlock only if you save her and if you dont' change the ending so she does come back

Nightcrawler - same thing above

Cyclops - just lock in Doom's Castle

Psylocke - Same above

Characters like Cyc and Psylocke don't break the story any more than Dr Strange or Silver Surfer do. I think the only three from the Official Chars that should be dropped by virtue of being story breakers should be Doom, Fury, and Widow.

Agree Cyclops and Psylocke are just puppets of Doom, nothing changes in the story of the game with them, and both are fun and fan favorites.
But, besides being a story breaker, Black Widow is a really great playable character, and so funny to use, I say she must be in, above Blade, Luke Cage of Fury (for example) who are boring and only few seems to like :P

Sounds like a great mod will definetly try it out. I think Punisher and Iron Fist should be in as additional characters.

Well it was even described by the dark Thor and Spider-Man that they weren't even Thor or Spider-Man, they were just clones made by Doom.  So in that sense, Cyclops and Psylocke are probably just clones as well, so having them be playable wouldn't break the story by any stretch of the imagination.  I think Punisher should definitely make it in though.  The fact that he was left out of both MUAs kind of made me sad, I really wanted him to be in there somewhere and I'm sure most people feel that way.

Yeah I like Punisher and he should have been in MUA. In MUAII he doesn't really fit the story so I'm kinda happy he isn't in.

An unlockable Namor, perhaps? It would be kind of neat to have an entirely unlockable Defenders team (Namor, Hulk, Dr. Strange and Silver Surfer).

I don't know but he just doesn't feel like it. Pro side takes enemies and brainwashes them to serve them. Anti is disgusted by this and wouldn't harbor antagonists which would be Punisher.

Then Punisher would never join Pro and the whole nanite storyline doesn't fit him either. Plus would Fury work with him? He is like Strange, Wanda, Surfer. I love them and wanted them but they all wouldn't fit the storyline which is why I don't want them now as they wouldn't make sense even if they are some of my fav characters.

Yes, because everyone on the anti-registration side has always been a protagonist.  Clearly only the bad guys are allowed to be pro-registration.  Surely Mrs. Dark Phoenix herself has never hurt an innocent soul.  Wolverine never impaled anyone with a pure heart.  Deadpool is not a mercenary for hire who would join whatever side just because they are more amusing to them.  Not all of the people who are anti-registration are pure of heart my friend.  As such, not everyone on the pro-registration side are brainwashed.  Some of them really are that retarded enough to think something like that would benefit everyone.  Just because Punisher doesn't "feel like it" to you doesn't mean he doesn't belong in the story or wouldn't fit.

Don't forget that in the actual comic books, Frank joined the anti-reg side specifically because pro-reg used villains as soldiers and got kicked out by Cap because he KILLED the ones Cap tried to recruit.

QuoteWell it was even described by the dark Thor and Spider-Man that they weren't even Thor or Spider-Man, they were just clones made by Doom.  So in that sense, Cyclops and Psylocke are probably just clones as well, so having them be playable wouldn't break the story by any stretch of the imagination.
Except that Cyke is among the casualties of Doom in the Act 5 opening. As is Colossus.

And don't diss Fury, I liked playing as Fury. It's just that I understand that I might be alone in the opinion =)

You realize that is in my opinion and I am not declaring to everyone "cause I think he shouldn't fit he shouldn't be playable" and ordering that to hapepn. I am stating my own opinion.

And think about this. Wolverine is now good and won't kill unless he feels the enemy must die. Jean never was DP so get your facts straight about that.

And Pro side has all villains controlled. Have you even played this game on 360/Ps3. All the villains were controlled. GG and Venom too but at the end of the game they are unlocked when they stop being controlled.

And like I said would Fury ever work with him

Given Noelemahc's findings here (http://marvelmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=7.msg67161#msg67161) we know we can reskin MUA1/2 Wii and XML1/2 Gamecube models.  We also know that we can 100% use MUA1 and MUA2 animations, (and can probably use XML1/2) so the character possibilities just got a lot bigger.  The only thing we're missing now is sounds, which can be done manually via a hex editor, but would be much nicer to do in some sort of automated way.  I sent Winstrol an email awhile ago but never got an answer back.  Hopefully he responds someday as we now know the basics of PS2 and Wii sound formats, which covers all the systems we can mod (the PSP uses a lower quality version of the PS2 sounds AFAIK).  If anyone sees him tell him we could use his help.

The jury is still out on the DS version, but as I progress farther and farther in its version of the storyline, I grow more and more resentful towards it.

I've borrowed it for the DS, but my wife is always playing it, so I haven't had a chance to test it out.  I've looked at the ROM and unless things are inside the files that are extracted I dunno that I wanna even bother.  Skinning looks like the best we can do, and that's if you feel like it's worth it.

So the 360's "stage" file (mlm_team_back.igb) is vastly different than the Wii/PSP's file.  So much so that its not worth wasting a burned disc because I know the 360's won't work.  So that leaves us with 29 mannequin slots.  We can have secret characters much like the Xbox mod does, where you press up or down on certain characters to get other characters, but only if the game is built to allow that.  I'm setting up a disc to be burned with 29 characters (the PSPers all unlocked + the PSP stage) and I'm going to have my friend give it a run.  Along with that will be a PS2 version of Blade's 4th skin (animations and all) to see if PS2 stuff works on the Wii, as well as Alchemy 3.2 stuff in Alchemy 3.5.  Lastly Blade's 3rd skin will use one of BLaw's custom models to see if models exported by the community work on the Wii (I doubt it).  I'll report back in a week or so when this is all tested.

Teancum, you can probably test whether your disc worked right away using the Dolphin GameCube/Wii emulator (though I fully understand the fact that you need to test the build on a real disc).

Note: I've added a poll.  The top votes don't necessarily mean they'll make it into my Wii mod - a lot of factors play in to what I can do, and what I want to do.  But if a few characters are clearly more popular that would make a difference.  As far as my personal version of the mod goes, these are the choices.  I'm not adding anyone, so sorry if your favorite didn't make the list, but I'm not adding them.
Title: Re: MUA1 Wii - Special Edition [progress - 10%] (poll added)

NOTE: I've upped the max votes to a total of 8 (25 + 8 = 33 characters) just in case.  If you've already voted you can remove your vote and vote again.  And feel free to vote even if you don't have a Wii.  I'm open to suggestions for the most part, so your vote counts.

Yeah, me too.  The only reason I put Magneto in is because he's been known to side with good should circumstance require it, and Venom was "good" for a short while on the Thunderbolts.

Looking at this thread makes me even happier that I'm getting a Wii soon. Hope that there's a way to get more than 29 characters.

Anyway, here's who I voted for.

Captain Marvel
Hawkeye
Iron Fist
War Machine
Venom
Hulk
Punisher
Gambit

If there's no way over the 29 limit, then I would replace Nick Fury with Punisher and Colossus with Hulk and have Gambit, Hawkeye, Iron Fist and Captain Marvel in the PSP slots.

Also, I would suggest using the Eddie Brock Venom skin as Venom's default skin, not Gargan. Because Mac Gargan is still the Scorpion in this game, and it makes more sense for Eddie to join the alliance than Gargan.

I still wonder what one can use to put a customized WAD file back on the disc. I've been trying to do that a few months ago but was unsuccesfull :(.

I used a combination of WiiScrubber and Trucha.  I don't remember how exactly, it's been a long time, but I've built custom Guitar Hero 3 discs for friends.

 WiiScrubber & Trucha............ :scratchhead: What does it do for modding on Wii.

Nope, the only friend I had who still owned a Wii moved away, so I don't have a Wii to test on.  And the Wii could only make mods out of things that already existed on the Wii/Gamecube versions of X-Men Legends 1/2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 1/2

Hey, I'm not much of a MUA hacker, but I am experienced in brawl hacking. And, there is a program called riivilution. And, what is does is if you already own a copy of the game, you put this XML file on your SD and you can load it through the program.  However, I don't know how to make an XML file from scratch, and it's not guaranteed that the program will work with MUA.  Also, this would allow people to select which characters they want. Also, to make surfer no longer a storybreaker, mod his script so you unlock him after you beat galactus.

Yep, I know about Riivolution - cool application.  I've seen some custom New Super Mario Bros Wii stuff using it.

In regards to this mod, though, I canned it long ago.  My friend who owned the Wii moved across the country to help the family take care of his sick mom.

I might be willing to pick this back up, seeing as how the Wii is currently my strongest platform (and that I like a challenge, and can't return to PSP modding because I loaned my PSP to my girlfriend who's studying abroad till X-Mas, and never tried modding for the Wii before) outside of PC and how bored I am of PC modding =) Everyone can do PC modding, I can't be uniquely awesome there =)

Ahem. Anyway, Teancum, do you have any leftover files left? I don't intend to replace any characters, just add the PSP ones and see where that leads me to start with.

I don't have anything left unfortunately. The only thing I can say is that I got all four PSP characters were working (obviously) aside from sounds. I don't know about the character limit as I replaced one character in four different builds to check them. I know Alchemy 3.5 animations work fine including MUA2 Wii/PS2/PSP, and I assume GameCube/Wii models from XML1/2 and MUA2 will work considering animations do. I didn't try XML1/2 anims.

I know the sounds are GCADPCM so technically with a bit of hex surgery they can be modified from existing sounds. One thought I had was to build either Xbox or PC ZSM/ZSS files and then hex replace the actual raw sound data, but it's been so long I can't remember which one had tables that were closer to the GameCube (Wii)-compiled format. Too bad Winstrol took off so fast, as I was able to figure out the sounds for PS2/PSP/Wii/GameCube based on your findings, but it's been so long that I can't remember.

I've split out Jaglass' mod from this as it has nothing to do with what I was doing -- aside from being on the Wii. My mod has been dead for several years, so interested Wii players should follow his topic.
