Title: Venom mod version 1.2 (Z) (added tail for Thunderbolts)

Here it is, all new Venom model with claws and animated tongue ;)
It has all his powers, 5 custom made skins/models (Classic, Ultimate, Web of Shadows, Thunderbolts, Ultimate<Original>), claws, a mannequin, sounds and all necessary icons.
Please check the README.txt file before installing this mod.
This mod can be modified by anyone as long as credit is given.
Big thanks to Norrin Radd, cvc, Teancum and winstrol for help!

By the way, the 217xx slot is already taken by Sunfire, you may want to change your numbers. Here is the list of taken/available slots, if you want to check it:

Sorry, I kinda forgot for a moment there was a DLC Venom. Tought we were playing throw-random-numbers-and-see-wich-one-Mark-likes-the-most (don't tell me you never played it before!).

The DLC number seems to be the more logical choice too. By the way, the moves look great, I just wish he'd make some more damage to bosses, but after all the mayhem he leaves in his path, it doesn't really matter.

Sweet. You made my shitty evening seem not as bad. ^_^
Venom's pretty much my favorite Marvel character and now I can FINALLY play him. Hopefully there isn't too much tweaking to do since I just started learning how to mod MUA. o_o

There was a Venom in the Quad Mod way earlier back, but this one looks way better! And Venom was available in the DLC content along with Magneto, Hawkeye, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Sabretooth, Hulk, and Doom.

Yeah. I tried the Quad Mod out for a little while and that Venom wasn't quite to my liking. I might add the Venom skin from there to this one since it resembles the Venom from the movie Spider-Man 3.

I've just liked Venom since when I was younger and picked up a couple self-titled comic books and found interest in him. I think it's probably just that he looks like something from a cheesy horror movie though with the added bonus of having all of Spider-Man's powers and more. Heh



But.. So far after play-testing Venom's skills/powers I've noticed that you get stuck using Symbiote Flail after everyone's dead from button bashing. It'd be nice if you could somehow add a cooldown effect to it to prevent that. Also Venom Heave doesn't appear to do any damage if it hits an opponent that can't normally be grabbed. I'm not sure if that was intended but I'm just saying so since Spider-Man's still does damage. Should be easy to fix by comparing scripts though.
Still a very awesome character and I'm liking his powers. The Xtreme looks wicked.

I didn't like a few things they left out in the movie.. Like Venom not refering to himself as more than one person. Or his high pitched whine as Venom.. I guess it makes more sense that he isn't hugely muscular when he transforms unlike in the Ultimate comics but it's different seeing him all scrawny. The original Venom would probably pound the movie one into the ground.

But yeah.. I'm just going to use the movie skin to replace one of the less better looking skins. Probably the Marvel VS Capcom one only because the shade of blue is too bright.

@ Dark_Mark -- Do you think you can release an alternate version of the mannequin that's rotated about 70 degrees counter-clockwise?  I'm trying to fit him into a few places where he's turned to far to the right.

*EDIT* -- and can you post a UV map of Venom so we can get an idea on how to skin him?  I couldn't really tell from the textures.

Models updated! The major difference is that they are now lit properly, have the DLC number 176 and a few sounds. If any of you wish to use the old mod, just replace it's models with the ones from the new archive and rename them. Let me know if you encounter any problems.

Awesome Job man :bowdown:. Thanks a lot for all the hard work.

Just one question though, are there any sounds with him. The only sound i get is when he jumps. If not, is there any way to get more sounds in there? Like ripping it from the cartoon show or maybe from another game like ultimate spiderman, etc.? Just a thought.

Yeah, but each mannequin slot (particularly the DLC slots) are rotated differently.  That's why I'm having trouble, one of the actual new slots is rotated too far to the right, making Venom turned too far to the right.  You don't have to package it up or anything, it's just for my use.

BTW, thanks much for the UV map.  That's going to make life tons easier.

(already took them from the 1.1, just to let you know)

And for some reason the grabsmash crashes the game.

not only the grabsmash, but the 3rd power as well crash my game so not too sure whether i nvr install properly but don't think so since other of venom powers work.

The bolton folder is empty for a reason. The game crashes because you used incompatible boltons, which ended up in version 1.0 by mistake. In the future I may get round to fixing this problem, but it is low on my priority list.

Thanks, meanwhile I copied the grabsmash coding from the v1.0 and now it doesn't crash. Haven't tried power 3 yet, I think.

Does anyone have conflicts between this and the Sunfire mod. I just loaded the Sunfire mod recently and his model shows up for himself and Venom though the model acts like Venom  when you pick Venom and Sunfire when you pick Sunfire. His mannequin shows up for him, model skins you name it. Haven't tried powers yet. I know at one time these mods used the same slot(217xx) but not anymore. I know Venom uses 176xx. Initially I forgot to change the old Venom herostat file which reference 217 and once I fixed that I thought my problems were gone but I still have them even after starting a new game. Any ideas what is causing this?

Edit: Found I had old Venom files in my folders but I still could not get it to work. Still had the Sunfire model in Venoms place. Removed all Sunfire files not I have no model in Venoms place though there is a 176 file in my mannequin folder. This is driving me crazy. Not blaming anyone just wish I knew what was going on. Of course before Sunfire everything worked but I deleted all Sunfire files and I still can't get it to work. But I think my herostat pointed to the 217 file not 176.

Edit: Ok I found everything I did wrong. Forgot to get rid of some files and did not edit herostat correctly. Left skin one looking for a 217 file where it should have been 176. Thanks for this great mod.

hi!

I updated from a previous version of this mod and now whenever I try to grab someone with venom the game crashes.  :wtflol:

I don't know if it's a problem with the mod or if it's a problem with how I updated from the previous version though.

I did a stepwise installation of the mod, as always. I will restore the previous version and then see if the crash continues.

Seems it's the version 1.5 powerstyle, I changed the power entries for the grabsmash and power 3, I think, to those on the 1.1 version to keep it from crashing.

Also, could someone lend me a hand in finding appropriate sounds for Venom's powers? For now I redirected his audio file name to Juggernaut's, however the actual sound names are mostly different, and I don't have the time to find, match and readjust all of them manually. Even posting a list of Juggy's sounds with descriptions would be very helpful.

In the latest version (1.51) all of Venom's moves work like they should on my machine. All I can suggest is that you remove all traces of previous versions, with emphasis on deleting all venom claws from your game bolton folder.

it's just "dangerous" to me to install newer version of mods... if the old files are overwritten no problem. But if there is a problem with that I should first delete the old mod and then install the new one. If my installation breaks I have to restore the most recent backup... and trust me so loaded with mods it takes time.

So which way is it safer?  :fro:

EDIT: no worries I am doing it the 'clean' way, uninstalling first.  :thumbsup2:

Powerstyle wasn't changed in this release. If you have been using the previous version, feel free to overwrite all the old files. You don't even have to change herostat :)

- I seem to have problem with sounds, I cannot hear Venom's websling or his voice. The voice sometimes comes up some others he's just quiet.

- Also the reskinning is great, much better than before but... I would like to see a more black-ish first skin ala Venom's first appearances, a darker blue, sea blue if you know what I mean...

That's because venom's voice/sounds was not included in the mod (it can't be converted from XBOX360).

I'm afraid that there is not much I can do about this. As we don't have proper sounds for Venom, I used some of XML2 Juggernout's in their place. Or rather WE used them (me + my brother) :venom: .

Thanks, I'll try it later. Nevertheless, the darker the texture, the more detail it loses ingame, that's why I had increased its lightness a little bit.

I think Venom Thrust is ok for both of us... It's Venom Heave and Venom Swing for me... They are missing a tendril. I haven't been able to see it even before Dark Mark release the Venom models... lol

I have triple checked all of my files and can assure you that the problem is not with my mod. Are you sure that you have installed the latest version correctly? (eg. overwritten all old files, updated herostat, etc?)

This further proves that the problem is on your side. However, I have just spent a couple of hours checking powerstyles, packages, talent files etc. and I've made sure that all necessary effects and textures are in my mod. If you reinstall it from scratch, everything should work for you. :)

well thank you for the offsets Mark. I uninstalled all the 2.5 mod, deleting the files one by one. And I re-installed version 1.01. Everything seemed to work... except I can't see the symbiote either!!

So there must be some other thing iammingy and I changed in the game and that is preventing us from being able to see some of Venom's effects.

I deleted all the files one by one, so it's impossible that it is something within the mods. 1.01 version was in my hard drive all the time.

So we don't know what it can be..  :wtflol:

I *think* there's only one, maybe two skins that are different, and the sounds aren't there.  Other than that they're the same.  Iammingy's working on reskins of Dark_Mark's Venom to give us the skins that were in the 360 version but not Dark_Mark's.

what are these "banter" sounds? i mean, i've listened to them using the zss extractor, but i'v NEVER heard them in the game! when am i supposed to hear them? could it be because my game is in another language?

Your current character speaks those if you have the right partners in your team and leave the game running for a while.
Eg. Select a team of Venom and Spider-Man, select Venom as your primary character and let them stand idle for a few minutes. A while after they enter their "idle" animations, Venom should say something to Spidey.
The language your game uses should have no impact on this.

Oh hey, Dark_Mark -- I just bought a new hard drive and didn't think to save my Goldwave settings for the Xtreme yell.  But I'll re-configure it once I get it installed, extract your Xtreme call, and apply the filter.  After that I'll upload the fixed ZSS and share the filter settings.

Duh. I didn't have much time to work on sounds lately, so I didn't bother you for the settings (Perhaps I should have ? :P ). Anyway, I didn't include the new Xtreme in the package since it requires the filter to make it sound right (I mean to mask some of its shortcomings that way :P ). I would be thankful if you could PM me the filter settings when you restore them.

I have finally figured out why some people (including me) couldn't see some of Venom's effects. A few textures/effects will not show if you set the "particle" option to low. The effects works fine when it's set to high. I just found this while testing my little skin.

The reason I didn't report it to you is because the tongue didn't go through the bottom of the jaw in the last version, which I thought it was the thing you fixed... :laugh: I think this is the same reason nobody asked about it.

Hey Dark_Mark!

well, the meshes freezed the game, most likely, because the texture are 1024x1024, and the mannequins didn't freezed the game, but they are invisible.

toxin mannequin is only 128x128, so we still don't know which is the texture's size limit for the xbox.

An invisible mannequin means the game can't read the file (so it's the same thing as a freeze up on an animated model)

I guess I should've stated that the Xbox probably shouldn't have larger than 256x256 textures (DXT3 of course).  Iammingy might also have his export settings different that Dark_Mark.  So if downgrading the textures doesn't work then you might check to see if your export settings match.

I don't really have any special settings for export; I have everything on default (Blinn shader, etc.). I just change the DDS textures from DXT1 to DXT3.

As for the tongue, it looks great! It's better (firmer) than the previous version! :venom:

That's strange. I am absolutely sure that I resized all the textures so that none was larger than 512x512 and changed them to DXT3 :scratchhead: Maybe the models are too complex?

Oh, Dark_Mark, i'm really sorry, but i thought that Venom's texture was 1024x1024, but i only noticed right now that it is 512x512, his texture looks all the same, so i got a little confused.

Teancum, i checked right now and Gambit's mannequin is 256x256, and it worked on the xbox.

so this means that 256x256 is the limit, and it is a little bit obvious since all IGBs on the XBOX are 256x256, but for the boltons, any settings seems to work, even DXT1 and 512x512.

How about I export the She-Hulk mannequin I "made" with DXT3 textures? I think the texture used was 1024x1024... Or Dark_Mark can export his Sabretooth/Doom mannequin again with DXT3 textures.

I'm new to modding Ultimate Alliance for the PC and just wanted to first say great work on Venom. One question though. Venom's first power Venom Thrust says that "it passes through multiple enemies damaging each one" but when I use it, it only affects one enemy. Is this a bug? I thought it would work like Daredevil's Extensive strike. Is there a way to mod it to be like that? Sorry if this is a repost.

quick comment / question: its cool that you eventually got custom voice work for it... but what is everyone's take on them? personally i find the voices just not right. not sure why...but they just don't seem to get his personality down

i have the means to record my own version but i wanted to see if there was any other interest in the idea and what style would fit best

I dunno, for me all of Venom's 'modern' voices out there today just sound terrible, particularly those in the 360 version of MUA.  A lot of us remember and love the old Playstation 1 Spider-Man game and loved Venom in it, so that's what we used.

hmm. compared to the MUA 360 voices i see why you went for the ones they used, Teancum. They always use the voices to try and make him "scary" but it sounds so forced and overkill.

To me, his dialog has always been a little like deadpool's... constantly chattering and definitely unhinged. But definitely not in a hulk after a 2nd puberty type voice. His dialog during his best days (pre-cancer, pre-mac) was always funny to me....even though eddie unfortunately spent too much time with a mullet.

First of all thx for so much great work in implementing venom into pc version of MUa, man u done the fantastic job.
And now lets get to the point.
Firstly will u work more on your model ? I think the bulky model need little work, i mean imho the hands of it are.. too big, if u could reduce their size it would be great [but thats just my opinion]
And secondly... can u make a alternate skin for the Clasic/MarvelKnights venom model with thunderbolts design ?
Marvel knights venom is not the pure thunderbolts one [gargan], i would love to see on the "thin" venom model the thunderbolts skin that was used for the "thunderbolts" otfit on bulk one.

I cannot reproduce this bug (conversation works fine), so I don't know how to fix it. Try installing my Magneto mod (it has all the conversations in it) and see if it helps.

I really wish Marvel Knights just liked this models too. Don't worry, the next Official Character may have this skin(Marvel Knights) & big mannequin(just liked Ravencore did on Venom). The Venom location we know, he was originally on 96, not Hawkeye, Hawkeye it's on 91.

And the web of shadows skin is awesome [just what i was looking for... after finishing WOW i realized its just my style venom], and Gargan Venom is great too.

Btw could u make 1 more thing ? Alternate skin for "Clasic" venom ? Something More in black color tham the dark blue, or mabey some "move venom"styled skin ^^
But thats just sugestion, u already maked one of the greatest models in marvel customs imho [im huge fan of old venom, the mc.farlane one.. and i was so dissapointed long ago when it was reavealed pc version will not be updated as the x-box one... u maked my dream come true]

I tried this version too, but don't work very well as the old one. Have many problems. And don't do the extreme with   :nightcrawler:  :magneto:  :hulk_icon:. And don't know why. And the swing sometimes works but sometimes not!
But I love  :venom:!!! Is a great mod!!!

The catalog only have the 1.0 version.
I need the 1.2 to replace venom from the official characters 1.2 mod.
Reason is my claw power doesnt work anymore, it worked only 2 or 3 times and now it does nothing (claws aint comming out, use no energy at all and im not receiving the bonus).

Edit: Nvm about the reupload, deviant art link still works.
However it didnt fix my problem with the power Claw, anyone had this problem before and know how to fix it? i really want to use  :venom: to its fullest.

I was surprised to see a skin from Web of Shadows, as it is one of my favorite games. The tail is a great addition to the thunderbolts skin.
