1) I use Windows 7
2) I just added War Machine yesterday via XMLBCUI & heroselct (although he's a bit bugged).  That's the only other mod I've tried.

I know that some people have trouble with Windows 7.  (I use Windows XP).  I'm not sure if that is the problem or not.

I know you've reinstalled everything already and that didn't work.  After you installed the Official Characters Pack, did you immediately try to see if Heroselect was working before making any changes to your line up?

Hopefully Windows 7 isn't the problem, and if it is, I would like to figure out a work-around that doesn't involve changing my operating system.

I tried using heroselect before making any changes, and was able to get the default/preinstalled characters (moonknight, captain marvel etc.) to work.  The problem is getting the ones that aren't preset (like nightcrawler and venom) to work.

I know it's got to be disappointing not getting Heroselect to work.  The only problem I have (and continue to have) is that the game won't start using the Launch button.  I wish I could help you get it working on your computer.  I keep reading through the things you have tried, but haven't figured out a solution yet.

For clarification, let me ask:
1.  What is your operating system?
2.  Have you added any characters to your game besides the Official Characters pack?

Dang man that sucks. I remember I had a problem with the heroselect.exe and all I did to make it work was delete the line symbol next to the zero between the words Marvel and Ultimate.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Windows 7 is not the issue as I've successfully run multiple mods for MUA in both a 32 and 64 bit environment.  That said, the User Account Control (UAC) feature that is implemented in Vista and 7 can present some unique challenges if you aren't prepared for it. 

1) When using  XMLBCUI, always right click on the executable and select "Run as Administrator".  Otherwise the program does not run correctly

2)  Make sure that your user account has full write access to the MUA folder in the Program Files  See my response in http://marvelmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,8031.0.html for instructions on how to ensure this.

I hope this helps in some small way.  I would encourage you to keep trying.  These mods are hella cool and I would hate for you to miss out on them.

I made those security changes you suggested, but I still cant get the characters I want via heroselect.

Okay, this might be a long shot, but I suggest using this on the Marvel Ultimate Alliance folder that you have in the Program Files. First do this:

Then right-click on the Activision folder and hit Take Ownership. Then do that on the folder you have heroselect in. I hope this works.
